Bus experience: The trips between three cities had amazing mountain views during daytime and I recommend it. Night highway buses are convenient alternatives for budget travellers looking to save on accommodation costs. However, the trip back to Tokyo was uncomfortable with many passengers walking about during the countless stops and the bus felt stuffy. Booking can be done online.
City experience: Kanazawa and Matsumoto were beautiful to visit. I wished I got to experience more of Takayama and hope to be back to visit Hida Folk Village or Shirakawago.
