ケニアで唯一、間もなく消滅すると予測されている町。なぜ皆ここから逃げているのか?

All right, everyone. I’m somewhere outside Nuru town. I’m sure you can see a small civilization at a distance. Let me just zoom for you so that you can see better. That’suru town. One of the most beautiful towns in the country. We’ll be getting there in a few seconds. As usual, I want to take you around and see whether the big town is worth its name. So let’s just get out of here. So in the meantime, I’ll be telling you how the town’s population is growing at a negative rate. Meaning that the population is actually reducing. Meaning that at some point in future, we might end up with only one person in town. Crazy. I know, right? We will also be visiting the domes on force if times allows. I’m sure you can see the small bridge that I’m crossing at the moment. That’s river the river that forms the zones force which is one of the biggest falls. Actually, it is the biggest in the country. It is actually around this place. So, I’m about 50 m from here. But let’s first see what the town has to offer. We will come back later to that. I have a lot about that place. In fact, I have some old pictures, some being as old as 100 years. I’m sure when you see this signage, you are aware that you’re about to hit the town. So stay tuned, watch until the end and kindly don’t forget to subscribe to YouTube channel that is Village to Town TV. A channel that is dedicated to continue showcasing beautiful villages, towns, and cities across the continent of Africa. I go by the name Mr. salon traveler and today my lonely expeditions brought me to Nahuru town which is one of the biggest towns in the country. So the town is ranked position 56 in the country as far as cities and towns populations are concerned and so it is not doing so bad. Actually it is much ahead of towns like SA Marakani Maral. I’m sure you can see that on the list. But to be honest I expected it to perform much better. I’ll be turning right. I want to take you to some old part of the town. We want to take a look on the outskirt and see how things are doing before we hit the town center. So what do you think? Foremost, I think this is the most beautiful part of the town. You can see the old vibe. I’m sure that building right in front is more than 50 years old. You can see another one next to it. I’m sure the town started right here. That is some 100 years ago. I’ll be telling you more about that. The history of the town and the narrow streets. I feel like I’m driving down the memory lane. Well, nothing much is happening on this side of the town. The traffic is low, both humans and vehicles. It also seems like most businesses are not open or maybe a mali. It’s around 10:00 a.m. in the morning. Maybe the town start getting active a little bit later. And this is a typical rural town in Kenya. And you can see the state of the infrastructures, the roads, buildings, other investments. It’s a beautiful and a developing town. I can see one of the banks on the other side of the road that is cop bank and that tells a lot. It means that money is in circulation out here. I have also noted that the bank is flanked by two insurance companies and that tells you that is a financial hub as far as the region is concerned. Remember historically the town used to be the capital for Yandaraa that is Nandara district. For so long there were no counties then in Kenya only districts but when the concept of devolution was introduced in the country by the 2010 constitution. It was determined that Naruru town was part of Lipia County which is one of the counties in the great rift valley. So Nandara lost the case to the neighboring Lipia and actually it was a big court case. So some part of the towns are in Yandaro County but definitely Nandara was forced to find another headquarters and that’s when the idea of establishing as the new headquarter came about. We’ve been there some months ago and so you can go and check our old video. it is on this channel. I’m sure you will enjoy it. It is also good to know that despite all that, Nehuru is not the capital of Likipia and neither is Nyuki which is the biggest town in the county. So, can you guess the county’s headquarters real quick? Oh, yes. I knew you would get it wrong. The county headquarters for Lipia is called Rumuti. It is another interior town on your way to Maral which is the capital of Samburu. I know some of you got it, of course. And if you didn’t, I believe now you’re in the know. So, you can write me a comment down there and tell me whether you got it right or wrong and I will appreciate I want to turn right again. Remember I told you the town center will be the last spot that we’ll visit. And so we still in the outskirt and I’m sure you’re liking the beautiful faces and places. Well, don’t mind my rhyming skills. That lady motivated me to be a rapper. Anyways, don’t mind me. I behave like that when I see women. Probably that’s why I’m always lonely. So, behind this lorry on my left, there’s Nuru prison. It is right in the middle of the town. I’ll be showing you the entrance. I don’t want to film the whole thing. I don’t want to be shot. Trust me, I have enough problems to be catching bullets at my old age. So, you see the beautiful tree fence next to this shop. than the prison. The straight road on my left goes to the gate. And mind you, the prison is not new here. It’s been existing for decades. Actually, it was established by the colonial government. That was before the 1963 when the country got independent. So that picture above was taken right in the prison. That is in the 1950s. Those are the detained MMO warriors. I’m sure some oldtimers can even spot themselves. So the irony of life is that after fighting so hard to make sure the British leaves the country and they did that is in 1963. We never got rid of the facility. So the black man replaced the white man in the prison. The only difference is that now the prison is manned by a black man, not a white man. A great achievement, right? Well, there’s another improvement. Now the detained individuals are not mouse. Well, the war ended, but their sons and daughters are in there serving time for breaking laws. We have also made some tremendous improvements. Back then the Modinees mostly came from one region but we have now extended our scope. We admit criminals from all over the country. Wow. I call it the irony of life. We are still having a good time in Yahuru town and so far so good. The weather is so good. Remember this is one of the coldest towns in the country. And so having this kind of weather that you see today is a blessing. Trust me. The cold weather come from the elevation. It is as simple as that. Yahuru is one of the highest towns in the country. It is considered as a higher altitude area. In fact, the altitude is estimated as 2,33 m above sea level. And to add on the elevation, the town is also along the equator, which is the center of the earth. And uh I’m sure most students of geography will tell us that the earth is more elevated toward the equator or around the equator because of the bulge. And so you are more closer to the sun around this area. That’s why we don’t have extreme weather patterns along the equator, especially cold. We don’t experience winters in Kenya. So I’ll be hitting the town center in a few the heart of the town. And this is the famous Alcalao Neurhuru road. So behind me are towns like Aljo Rock, Alcalao, Gilgill, Naasha and mind you have covered almost all these towns and they are on this channel. I told you I’ve been doing the Lord’s work. You know, one day I just decided that I want to go around the country and document all the towns, cities, and villages just for you people purely the Lord’s work and being on a Sunday, a beautiful one of course and being a Christian, I’m reminded of the Isaiah 68 verse that says, “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send and who will go for us? And I said, “Here I am. Send me Lord. Send me.” So around this area is the town center. We’ll go around and see how the CBD is fairing, how businesses are doing, and how traffic is doing, both people and vehicles. So a few minutes ago before I got carried away by the good scriptures from the good old book, I was telling you about the altitudes and stuff and how cold this place is. And this cold has it advantages and disadvantages depending on how you view the whole situation. For instance, we start with the disadvantages. Well, most people don’t like cold places and I’m sure most of you don’t. And I can bet on that. Most of my friends from the coast, the northern Kenyan region, lower eastern, western, nyanza, they don’t like extreme cold. And probably this is one of the reason why the population for the town is shrinking. Remember, I’ll be giving you the statistics in a few. I have plenty of them. I’m sure you like them. In fact, I have a lot of numbers. So, most people tend to look for warmer places, especially as you get old. Well, shout out to all my fellow oldtimers. But there are advantages for being in a high altitude area and one of them is you are more likely to be an athlete or a runner if you come from Nahuru than if you come from the arid areas. Well, I will explain. So they say that the higher you go, the cooler it becomes. That basic. It is also good to know that the higher you go, the air we breathe becomes thinner. So people who train and live at high altitudes often become great runners and that is due to the physiological adaptations that improves oxygen utilization. So living in these areasuru being included where the air is thinner the body is forced to produce more red blood cells to compensate for the lower oxygen levels and this increased red blood cells count along with other adaptations like stronger lungs and more efficient oxygenations of blood enhances endurance and stamina. So when these people return to lower altitudes, they can deliver more oxygen to their muscles and this results in a performance boost. I’m sure that sounds like a science double lesson. Sorry about that. But we have a high attitude training camp here in Yahuru for runners thanks to the high attitudes. Also running is a serious career here. I don’t know whether you know about that. The town has produced great runners. And leading the list is this gentleman right here, Samuel Camo Wangro. The dude was the first Kenyan to win the Olympic gold in marathon in history. I’m sure the oldtimers can recall that the guy won the Beijing Olympics that is in 2008 marathon in a record time of 2 hours 6 minutes and 32 seconds. By the way, shout out to Alaska boys. There’s the boy school right in front. You guys never told me that we have Alaska in Africa, but probably they named the place Alaska due to the cold. This is Kibicha. So it is Kiricha boys which is one of the towns in Meu County. This is a sad point where we part with Alaska boys as they head to Meu and they head to the city. Anyways, I promise I’ll take you to Kibria one of these fine days. So I’m back to the town center. You can see this is where shops, supermarkets, banks are concentrated. I want to take more rounds on the other side of the town, the old town and see how it is fairing. So stay tuned. I’ll be back with numbers. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] So the town has a total population of 37,650 that is as of 2019 and the population is said to be decreasing quite unfortunate. In fact the government estimate that the annual population change foru town is negative0.8%. 8% per year. So this tells you that Nahuru is one of the towns in Kenya that has a decreasing population. Like for instance in 2009 the town had a total population of 40,83 and you can imagine 10 years later the population reduced to 37,000. So I’m not quite sure whether it is about low fertility rate. Well, people are not giving birth or people are just migrating to other towns. If you’re local, well, you can tell us on the comment section down below. Well, this graph shows you the town’s population over time. You can see that it was at it peak around 2010 before it started going down. You can also see the population change right there. This was something interesting about the town’s median age which is 18 years and so it is definitely young town. Majority of people here are young. 18 being the median age. But women are a bit older in town. Well the female median age is 18.6 6 years while that of their male counterpart is 17.3 years. Well, a difference of more than a year. So out of the 37,000 people living in town, 51.4% are females while males are only 48.6%. So the town has a female majority. I think that’s part of the reason why I feel a bit happy today. And only one intersects in town. Well, as you can see, I’m exiting the town. Actually, now I’m in Yandara County. So, let me leave it that. 1. Nyahururu Town in fact should be upgraded to a Municipality, for Heaven's sake its in a devolved unit that always allocates an annual budget for urban planning like the rest of 47 counties do. The said urban centre has a lot of untapped potential most sectors that can be harnessed to make a lucrative investment destination. There's no excuse whatsoever to allow urban disorganization. In addition the NLC should fast track resolving the boundary legal dispute between Laikipia and Nyandarua so ascertain where the right administrative jurisdiction of Nyahururu.

  2. The worst town. Business people ni brokers, the reason you see business people from Samburu, Baringo East, going to shop in Nairobi and Nakuru.

  3. U r well informed in several aspects. I come from very near Nyahururu town but c always thought if to be the Laikipia headquarters.

  5. My first time to visit nyahururu was on Kenyatta day in 1981 in a tour that all the way to aberdare range nyandarua subukia nakuru and other places I can't remember. Surprisingly 13 years later I was posted to work in nyahururu from 1994-1997 and I can honestly say that of all towns I lived in Kenya nyahururu was and is my best. I've been out of Kenya for 20 years but my wish is to come back and probably settle in nyahururu

  11. Why were you driving the wrong way on a one-way street, while videoing? Maybe a dashcam would distract you less!!

  12. Migration … most of the cash circulating is civil servants…. Other economic activities are relatively low.. the national pencil was closed … railways once functional ceased…. KCC now back n brook side operational. Pyrethrum station n board ceased and there goes the economic struggles for Nyahururu

  13. The same reasons that make the town look bad will be the very reasons that will make Nyahururu one of the greatest towns (cities) in Africa.
