ゆのくにの森:日本の伝統工芸の里を訪ねる #shorts | グローバルシチズンシップ
So you thought about going to Kyoto for the 100th time. Cute, but no. Today, we’re escaping the crowds, the overpriced matcha, and the Tik Tok influencers for something more hands-on. Welcome to Yunokuni No mori, just nestled east of Kanazawa in a thriving metropolis of Komatsu. Yes, where the Komatsu mega-machines are born. Turns out, it’s not just steel and stone here, it’s also craft’s galore. We made our own fan like the dramatic geisha we are inside. Tried pottery, which somehow look like art after three attempts. And of course, we crafted washi paper. You know, that delicate stuff, people pretend to write poetry on. So skip Kyoto this time and head to Yunokuni No Mori, where the crowds are thinner, the air is fresher, and your inner artisan gets to shine. Craft something you actually take home, unlike that 2000 yen keychain from Arashiyama.
✨ Tired of elbowing your way through the Kyoto crowds just to maybe snap a photo of a geisha from 200m away?
👋 Say hello to Yunokuni no Mori—a magical craft village near Komatsu, east of Kanazawa, where you can actually breathe, make stuff, and feel like a creative genius (even if you failed art in school). 🎨
We made:
🪭 A fan (because we’re cool like that)
🍶 Pottery (slightly wobbly but full of heart)
📜 Washi paper (yes, the real handmade kind your Pinterest boards dream of)
Bonus fun fact: Komatsu isn’t just known for giant industrial machines (hi, Komatsu HQ 👷♂️)—the region’s special stone and resources make it a premium spot for traditional crafts that don’t look like airport souvenirs.
📍 Trade chaos for calm and check this out if you’re exploring Hokuriku or craving a slice of Old Japan without the tourist stampede.
