TV interview with our CEO, on CNBC 11NOV2024【JTB公式Official】
[Music] let’s bring in Edo yamakita now CEO at the Japan tourism board who joins us to continue this conversation yamakan thank you for your time is Japan becoming a victim of its own success and I want to talk about over tourism and Monica raises this in her report jam packed temples crowded Zen Gardens even a shortage of rice in the country how is Japan managing the over tourism challenge good morning um is it it’s it’s not really the victim uh of the over tourism uh Japanese people enjoy welcoming uh people from abroad and the what is necessary is to avoid the too much concentration in the city and major destination so uh so the general trend is really positive for Japan so if I if I look at the the officials in Japan expecting about 35 million people at the end of this year correct but officials also saying by 2030 you hope to welcome about 60,000 are you prepared for a jump uh that big in such a short amount of time yes I I think we are prepared uh for welcoming 60 thou 60 million people from the world uh compared with other countries Japan still lacking of visitors and the what is more important is to uh make The Travelers to uh visit a new destination in Japan uh there are lots of places uh where the Japan can provide a different attractions uh like Gastronomy Adventure tourism uh lots of experience can be possible in Japan so um that that is what we are trying to do so I think I I think what I hear is you’re talking about tourist flow and I’m hearing this from a lot of other countries thank we can take on more people as long as we can move them around appropriately what are the other parts of Japan that the tourism board is focusing on where what are the cities that you would like to see more people headed to um well what is necessary is to get correct information first of all uh so we provide the correct information uh how Diversified Japan’s um you know contents is like um so uh this is for thing uh utilizing technology as much as possible and the promote through the social media as as well and and then the after visiting Japan uh they need to get uh more uh enriched experiences than before uh so uh the current trend is more Purpose Driven trip trip is common uh uh throughout world as you you have shown uh the visitors are very much Diversified uh compared with the prepandemic uh situation more uh Nations um visit from more Nations people visit to Japan and experience very different so um what we’re trying to do is uh to create the contents um unique contents in the rural area and then on top um the uh mobilities are really important so we provide the new routing uh uh rather than just concentrating um into the Tokyo and kto visit but uh we have kushu Hokkaido and the Japan SE side a very beautiful towns um so new rout plus Mobility Services like uh what we did in uh uh mon F area uh we created we built up the um uh tourist base where people can visit uh by the public transportation which is good for the sustainability too and then uh giv and provide the EOB e ebike and some other uh way of transportation to visit lulo areas from that area and just one last question for you so obviously Japan has been successful in attracting people but I’ve noticed uh the Japanese people not leaving at the same levels as they used to what do you think is behind uh just a lack of international tourism interests from the Japanese people and how is that affecting the domestic travel industry for you yeah for that context uh the weekend affect a lot uh and on top of that uh during pandemic people are very much uh traveling within Japan and the uh this trend uh have never changed yet so uh we need more information to give and the passport holding ratio is very low in Japan so um um again we need to promote U the Japanese citizens to go outroad yeah makan thank you very much indeed for that and ski season in Japan is going to be uh starting soon so that’ll be a very interesting indicator of Tourism demand hakito the CEO of the Japan tourism board [Music]
