神奈川県川崎市の北部、麻生区の丘陵に抱かれた町、柿生。この地には、声を潜めるような静けさが広がっていた。開かぬシャッター、埃をかぶった看板、そしてタバスコの自販機の隣に、ぽつんと佇む風化した石碑。
誰かの記憶のなかにだけ生きるような商店街を抜けて、坂道をのぼると浄慶寺が見えてくる。境内には、千本の紫陽花が揺れ、ひとつの羅漢像がパソコンを開いていた。冗談なのか、風刺なのか、それとも未来に祈るということの新しいかたちなのか。誰もいない境内に、妙な諦念と薄ら寒さが漂っていた。隣には秋葉大権現の社が小さく眠るように建ち、風が葉を鳴らして過ぎていく。さらに足を延ばして麻生不動院へ。掃除機の音が静寂を切り裂き、参道には所在なげな若者が一人、地面に目を落として座っている。日常とも非日常ともつかないその風景は、過去の記憶と静かに重なっていく。かつて歩いたこの町が、今日もまた別の表情で迎えてくる。柿生という町は語らない。けれど、歩いた人間の心にだけ、確かな問いを投げかけてくる。ただ歩くだけで、見えない何かがそっと浮かび上がる。そんな町だった。
