4月になっても、まだまだ雪の残っていた北海道の北 宗谷地方。
豊富町と幌延町にまたがり広がっている「サロベツ原野」は、全長27km 幅8kmにも及ぶ広大な湿原。
その大きさを例えるなら、東京駅から横浜駅まで電車に乗って窓から見える景色は、見渡す限りの草原という壮大なもの。
今回は、その原野の中をゆっくりと縦断している「サロベツ川」を、河口から遡上し、パンケ沼までの約12kmのツーリングを、2回に分けてお送りします。
