You should try one thing.
They call Nasi Ujang. Ujang? My name is Nadia. Nadia, nice to meet you. Nadia. Thank you. Welcome to Kluang! Is everyone so nice like you here in Kluang? I traveled up north from Singapore into Malaysia,   and I’m now in the most underrated town
of Malaysia, Kluang, Johor, Malaysia. To give this town a little bit of justice,   I make a video about the beauty of
this magnificent Malaysian town. After seeing this video, I hope I convince
you to come over and visit this town. It’s got a lot of coffee shops, it is
clean, it actually developed for tourism   but often gets skipped by the foreign
tourists who are visiting Malaysia. I did a bit of research, and I’m
taking you to some of the highlights. This town is located only 3 hours by land from
Kuala Lumpur and about two from Johor Baru. It’s possible to visit this
town by catching a bus,   but Kluang also has a railway station,
which makes this town quite accessible. Now we just got a little taste
of what Kluang looks like,   and you will see coffee shops like
these all scattered around the city. I’m filming this on a Sunday;
most shops are closed,   but this town hosts quite a few
local tourists on the weekends. Kluang in Johor has a lot of street
art right in the center of the town. Delicious and affordable food and
coffee are never far away in Kluang. Coming from Singapore, I have to
say when it comes to cleanliness,   there is definitely not much difference. They manage to keep it clean—they have bins
everywhere, and there are a lot of courtyards,   playgrounds, and gardens inside the city. Again, well-maintained and clean. I’m actually getting a little package
here, and I think I know the perfect   restaurant to take you to for some lunch. Thank you. Alright, so I am not the only one. They’ve got all these traditional dishes. We got the Nasi Lama, obviously the mee kari, the
Penang koay teow, but we are going for the Laksa. And for a coffee we go for a kopi o ice. Rail coffee is one of the most
popular restaurants here in town. It is 3:00, way past lunchtime, but
the locals or the local tourists—I   can say—they’re still queuing
up to have drinks and food. The majority of the people are
actually not from this town. No, they’re from KL, from
Melacca—they’re coming from Johor B. They also come from Singapore. This is how I got here—actually took a bus from
Singapore to Johor B, then from Johor B to here. That was absolutely fantastic,
seriously something else. It did taste a little bit like
the khao soi in Chiang Mai but   then with spaghetti and a few other flavors. 15 ringgit gets you a meal and a drink in
one of the most underrated towns in Malaysia. It’s a little walk back to town on a hot
day in Malaysia, ladies and gentlemen. It’s only a small part—I had to walk
next to a busy road on a grass strip. Let’s say this was only for a few
hundred meters, but now I’m back in town. And luckily, there is a sidewalk again
next to this somewhat busy street. This town has a population of just over
300,000 people, so it’s quite a small town. This town was established in the early 1900s
by the British, as the British were building   the Malaysian State Railway, and Kluang was
positioned as a central railway hub in Johor. They recently opened a new station,   which is much bigger, and is part
of the Singapore-Kluang Rail Link. For some better days—that’s all I want—and I pray. I believe in better days. Living life every day, late at night,   not okay— all I want and I pray,
all I need are some better days. You’re from the Netherlands? Yeah. Oh, just one person? Yeah, no, my wife is in Chiang Mai. Oh, your wife? Yeah, yeah, yeah, she’s half Thai, half Dutch. Oh, I’m actually half Indonesian. You say except from the town… Many people checking the graffiti and the… Yeah and in the morning you can
have breakfast at railway station. I accidentally had laksa just now. Other than the laksa Johor and the…. What else do you eat here
that’s specifically from here? You have the coffee of course… You you should try one thing: Nasi Ujang. Ujang? Nasi Ujang? That’s with chicken and beef. But it’s quite spicy. I like it. I like it spicy. Okay, nasi ujang! We gonna eat that tonight. Not nasi goreng. We skipp nasi goreng because I know already. Ujang! Nasi udjang. Okay. Thank you.
Then you should go to Ngepot Cabin. They have nasi ujang. I gonna go this! Thank you so much! So you’re actually proper local here? You grew up here? Not actually from here. I’m from Desaru originally. Why did you come here? My mom is staying here. I grew up in Desaru, so after my
dad passed away, we moved here. Actually, my mom’s hometown. Ah, okay, okay. So we’re back here, and this town is very small. We know everybody. Everyone knows—well, not
everybody, but most people. There’s not much crime here. No, not much. So it’s quite safe for any traveler to come here. I made this video because I think
what I’ve seen is so beautiful,   but not many people know about this town. Everyone goes to Johor Baru, Malacca, or KL. Thank you so much, brother. Yeah, I really appreciate it. I’m sorry for disturbing you. No, no, no, you helped me—I recorded the last bit. Believe it or not, I made a new friend. What’s happening, brother? Thank you for inviting me, man. Yes, sure. So, what you just said to me—you’re
going to bring me somewhere? Oh yeah, I’m going to take
you to the Ngepot Cabin. There’s a lot of variety of food
there—you can choose whatever you want,   either spicy, chicken, or Western. Have you eaten already? Yeah I ate already. So I try to pay with my credit card. Oh, okay. But can I pay with a credit card there? No, they only accept cash or bank transfer. You can use a QR code or something like that. Okay, okay. Maybe I need an ATM. You want to go to an ATM? Sure, I can take you there. Thank you. Where’s your wife? You said you pick up your wife? My wife is working right now. Ah, okay. She’ll finish at 6:00, I think. She works every day except Tuesday. And you? I’m a freelancer—designing and video editing. Video editing, too? Yes, I do motion graphics and I fly a drone. Maybe I can borrow some footage from Kluang. Yeah, I can email you the footage. You have a business? Yes, I freelancing. Do you have a website? I showcase my work on TikTok and Instagram.
I’ll put your TikTok and Instagram links in the description because all the drone
footage we have, you made, right? Sure.
Is everyone so nice like you here in Kluang? Yeah, everyone is very nice. Great. I’m now at Ngepot Court, and this place
gets really lively in the evening. It’s only 5:30, so I don’t
expect it to be fully open yet. We’re going to check it out. I’m here with my new local mate, Aiem. He approached me saying, “Hey, what are
you doing, man? Are you filming something?” There are many food options at Ngepot. You can have a Nasi Lemak, some chiao
noodles, bako, sizzling chicken, or tofu. Our new local friend said
we have to try Nasi Ujang. Welcome to Kluang! Where you from? Malaysia. Are you from here? You’re from here? Where you from? Netherlands. We have two kinds of Ujang—chicken and meat. And your meat is …? Cow. Yes, cow. Tomorrow, I’m leaving a little early. Oh, you speak Thai? Yes, I like Thai food. I can cook Thai food too. You can cook? Yes, I can cook. This dish doesn’t have Thai style, just Malay. Thank you so much. What’s your name? My name is Nadi. . Nadia, nice to meet you. Thank you, nice to meet you. Okay, I’m going to eat now. Thank you, bye-bye. Eating Nasi Ujang with ayam
(chicken)—first time I actually eat this. This dish originates from
Kluang, so I have to eat it. I’m only eating this because of my new friend. Did not expect that. Wow, because in Malaysia, sometimes the
sambal has a lot of flavor but not very spicy. Correct. But this one is very spicy. It’s like a curry, some kind of curry. Curry? Yeah, like chicken curry. Except in architecture—delicious
food, and the amazing coffee culture. Lately, a renovated shopping
mall is worth checking out. I’m walking to Sunway Kluang shopping mall,   with Mengkibol River on my side
and the bus station in the back. It feels really calm here. People are fishing. There’s a coffee factory you can visit,
and quite a few activities here as well. I’m just passing through, but this town has
more to offer than I’m showing in this video. Not going to stay long, but I’d like
to take you to Sunway Kluang Shopping   Mall for a quick browse through this
mall to see what they have to offer. Welcome to Kluang! This mall was renovated in December 2024;
they invested about $30 million USD. You’ve got Starbucks, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf,   Pizza Hut, Watsons, Skechers, Mixu, Mr. DIY,
and a huge supermarket on the ground floor. A lot of shops I’ve never heard of. An H&M. It’s pretty much everything you’d expect
from a medium-sized shopping mall. A quick stop at Che Luan Khor—it’s
a temple and community center. It’s very nicely lit, and I’m not sure what to
expect, but the gate is open, so we check it out. Walking back to the hotel, you
see many places well-maintained. In the evening, it’s pleasant
to walk around; it’s well-lit. There’s an outdoor gym and a playground for kids. This was Kluang in Johor Baru. There are many more things to show,
but I have to leave tomorrow already! Thank you all for watching till the very end. I’d like to say from Kluang in Johor, Malaysia.

Kluang Malaysia is in my opinion the most underrated town in Malaysia. It doesn’t only have stunning architecture and delicious Malaysian food option, but it’s also a great place to meet the locals of Malaysia. It is truly a great town to discover! This video is showing what Kluang, Johor, in Malaysia has to offer.

  1. i think ( you guys could correct me ) that was laksa Johor. it's a johor speciality. different taste and style compared to Laksa Penang, laksam, laksa sarawak etc. laksa is a general term.

  2. Try go to Taiping town, Perak state about 45mins north from Ipoh city. There have many history places and beauty scenes

  3. Looks like Kluang has a lot of charm & character 👌 the food looked Aroi 🤩 – Thanks my friend ✔️👍🙏

  4. From Singapore and we actually go to Kluang very often for Hiking. It's a beautiful town situated perfectly in Johor's Nature Belt.. It's a waste you didnt get to check out the nature nearby! Gunung Lambak and Ledang are just stones throw away by Grab!

  5. Even Segamat is pretty underrated. Tons do good food there but they are very well hidden – you need some true long time locals to tell you about them. Some food are also exclusive to there like bah kee teng, a different version of char kuey teow with sauce in the liong Hoong Restaurant and nice asam pedas. The town itself was also established in 1511, the same year as the Portuguese conquest on melaka.

There is the tomb of the last melaka sultanate there, tons of old shoplots, one of the oldest kopitiam named nanyang coffee shop in the old town area and the beautiful st philip church.

  6. Loving these unexplored little known places you visit, the walk abouts and interaction with the locals. Great work Chai. Cheers champ 🤩

  7. Kluang station coffee is famous.Nowadays, too many franchise outlets. My late grandma told me she knew the original man who setup his stall at the old station.

  8. Thanks so much for covering Kluang, Chai. I was born there but have not set foot in the town for over 30 years. Moved to KL ages ago, and I have been living in Australia for more than a decade now. Watching your vlog brought back a flood of memories. Some places still look familiar, most have changed so much. Really appreciate you sharing this. It felt like a little virtual trip home ❤

  9. Thanks for inviting us to Kluang in Johor. I've barely seen Kluang on YouTube but Mr.Chai did make it.

  10. Anywhere except Thailand for us from now on. The air pollution in Hua Hin and Bangkok was horrible in January and February, we left Thailand 6 weeks early because we could not breath, we lost a damage deposit on our car rental and condo. Won't return until Thailand deals with the air pollution, we are done. Malaysia looks good!!!!
