【小田原散歩】小田原城下町と美しい海を歩く 小田原駅~御幸の浜~小田原城
good morning. Today we will be taking a walk from Odawara Station, a station that represents Seisho in Kanagawa Prefecture. Although it looks far away in the camera, Odawara Castle is also nearby, so I would like to stop by. Go down the stairs once and then up again. It’s such a sudden and useless move. I wanted to go to the sea through Minaka Odawara, which was completed in 2020. It looks like I can go to Odawara Station without getting wet in the rain, so I don’t really need to go outside. This is an example of how you can go this way. (Bad excuse) Oh? Is a woman screaming? They were putting on a monkey show. I was relieved that it was not an incident. It’s a place where you can feel the atmosphere of a post town in the Edo period. “Minaka” is an old word that means “middle”. It seems that the hope is that this place will be loved as a center that is bustling with people. It’s wonderful. There is a gold statue of Kinjiro Ninomiya and his wife. Statues of Kinjiro Ninomiya are often seen, but statues of the couple together are rare. When you go down the stairs, it’s like a modern cityscape. It’s a landscape that blends the Edo period and modern times. It was quite windy that day. The wind noise is especially loud in this area as it is between buildings. If it bothers your ears, please lower the volume. It seems like you can go straight to Odawara Castle if you go straight here, but this time we will go to the left. The roads around here are quite wide, but there aren’t many cars. The scenery doesn’t change much even if you walk down the main street, so let’s go to the back streets for a while. A large, retro-looking building came into view. This is a long-established restaurant in Odawara called “Daruma Restaurant”. I can’t see the entrance. This side is the back of the store, and the front is along the main street. (That’s right.) The name “Otemae” seems to have come from the fact that this place was connected to the Otemon Gate of Odawara Castle. The square in front is the site of the Odawara Civic Center. It seems that it is currently being used on a trial basis as a place for citizens to relax. This area is called Miyakoji. The area is said to have many individual shops. Is this a shrine? Let’s take a look. Huh? Kamaboko shop? Does this mean this is a shop? Are you making kamaboko? I don’t know much about it, so I continue my walk. (It’s easy to give up) It’s a shrine after all, right? A shrine-style kamaboko shop? (Novel style) Huh? shrine! So what was the kamaboko shop? The Odawara Nariwai Exchange Center on the right is also a nice retro building, but it looks like it’s currently under construction. The buildings around here are also quaint and nice. This is Miyuki no Hama, which I wanted to stop at on this walk. The composition of the beautiful ocean seen from a dark tunnel is irresistible. The sea beyond the tunnel is also beautiful. It would be nice to relax and look at the sea, but I would like to continue walking. Water is flowing out. Where is this flowing from? Is there a pool right behind it? (As expected, it’s different) The mystery deepens. Now, let’s head to Odawara Castle, which is also the representative of Odawara. The atmosphere around here is really nice. After all, I prefer back alleys where cars can’t pass each other rather than clean, well-maintained main streets . Homes in this area have put up information boards for “Miyuki no Hama.” Are the local people also trying to promote Miyuki-no-hama as a tourist destination? That would be wonderful. The road here feels really nice. It felt like a road leading to the mountains of Hakone. The retro atmosphere of the coffee shop on the left is wonderful. Kazamidori is a restaurant that continues to be loved by people in Odawara. The company will be celebrating its 50th anniversary next year. Odawara Castle, which can be said to be a symbol of Odawara, can be seen on the left. The contrast between the modern building in front of Odawara Castle is nice. You can feel the history of humanity and architecture. The red bridge that spans this moat is also nice. I can feel the beauty that is unique to Japan. Now let’s go to Odawara Castle. It was a little hard to see, but there were a lot of carp swimming around. There are already buildings lined up behind the moat. You can also feel the fusion of history and modernity here. It seems that Emperor Meiji also visited Odawara after spending a summer vacation in Hakone. I heard some voices. ninja! Kunoichi! It looks like they were just doing a show. The large gate that came into view is the Tokiwagi Gate. It is said that it was named after the pine tree (evergreen) next to the gate. It is said to be the largest and strongest gate in Odawara Castle. It’s so big that you can almost live inside the gate. (Exaggerated) There’s a crowd of people here too. oh! There are people wearing armor. It looks like we can take a photo together. And you can see the castle tower! After all, castles are cool. Go straight towards the castle tower. I’m a little hungry, so I’d like to eat something. yeah? Sanpuku dango? It seems to bring good luck, so I decided to have it. This looks exactly like a dango. I had it plain, but you can also get it with walnut miso and mitarashi. It was chewy, slightly sweet, and delicious. However, I felt a little regretful that I should have used walnut miso instead. Well, it was really delicious. Thank you for the meal. By the way, the three good fortunes are happiness, great fortune, and wealth. I would like to go inside, but this time I will be taking a walk and I think it will be difficult to take pictures, so I will just look at it from the outside. Although it is a little far away, you can also see the sea from here. I heard some noise again. It’s a procession of people wearing armor. Even small children can participate. It looks like it will be a good memory. The castle tower seen from this area is very beautiful. Is this the costume the child wore earlier? I think it’s cheap if you can wear it for 500 yen. Let’s go from here on the way home. It feels like this is the back door. It feels like I’m entering the premises. You can see the castle tower from here. You can go straight to Odawara Station if you follow this road, but let’s take a little detour. It looks like a back road, so I’ll turn here. It looks like you can’t go straight, so turn right. Oh? Can’t go to the left? That means we’re back on track. (There’s no such thing as a waste of time.) These unnecessary detours are the real pleasure of walking. (Right?) Now let’s walk down a familiar path. If you go to the right, you will see the entrance to Odawara Castle. There are quite a number of eel restaurants lined up. There are a lot of people and restaurants around here. Many of the shops lined up here have a nice atmosphere. That retro shop is so nice. Even though it’s right in front of the station, you can feel the good old days of Japan. This shop is Kotobukian, a long-established soba restaurant. It looks like the store has been in business for over 100 years. Next, I would like to go to Oshare Yokocho, which has a different taste than the aforementioned Kotobukian . It has the atmosphere of a good old bar town. There are bars like this around Odawara Station, which has a strong image of a castle town. It’s good to visit the standard beautiful spots, but part of the fun of walking is discovering unexpected aspects like this and walking through empty back alleys. This shop also has a nice signboard and a building that feels like the Showa era. Here at Shonan Taidai Yokocho, you can enjoy Odawara’s local fish and local sake. I returned to Odawara station. At the end, my feet naturally turned to the escalator, a convenient tool for civilization. (Disqualified as a stroller?) By the way, Odawara Station is not only JR but also Izu Hakone Railway and Daiyuzan Line stations. Well, that’s it for this Odawara walk. I was able to enjoy the historic buildings as a castle town, the beautiful sea, the magnificent Odawara Castle, and the retro bar district. Thank you for watching until the end. If you’d like, let’s go for a walk together again.
