Living Free Beyond the ARCTIC FRONTIER | 3.5 Hrs Solo Van Life, Off-Grid Camping & Cozy Rain Storms
The arctic frontier you never imagined My full time van life in the arctic
The Summer 2024 Compilation Land of the midnight sun Looks like a massive storm! It feels like you are on the frontier the wild east! so I’m on the way again going north through the
Arctic up through Swedish Lapland and the weather is quite a lot better today it’s been some nasty
rain weather just gonna pass Muddus national park here now I think I’m going to try to get my
drone up outside the park I think the road is basically the national park border so I’m going to
fly my drone out on the other side of the road Please like and subscribe if you enjoy the video! so I’m arriving in the little mining town of
Gällivare or however it’s uh pronounced in Swedish usually stop for food here but pretty much
stocked up now so I’m just going to pass through so if you wondering why I’m driving up through
Sweden to get to the polar Circle and to get further north it’s basically because it
is uh much better roads through Sweden you can drive much faster and they’re
straight and a good way to get North pretty fast also they have cheaper Diesel
and gas and uh they have much better groceries I always enjoy driving through Sweden even
though it can be a little bit boring with all the forest there’s something about it
that kind of uh touches my heart I’ve uh turned off going north on the e45 towards
a Karesuando going to cross into Finland and uh stay there for the night I think and
then it’s going to be it’s just a little bit I’m driving through Finland couple of hours
then I’ll be in uh in Norway again quite far north and uh I’m going to head all the
way to the East and North this time show you new places that are really epic I
have been there once before before I got a van and it is uh pretty cool still in Lapland
in Northern Sweden and heading towards uh Finland Gonna of cross the border to Finland pretty soon
just a few more minutes now then I’m going to find a place to Camp as soon as I get into
Finland I think going to see if I can find find those uh Finnish uh alcohol-free
ipas that I really liked from my winter tour in Finland it rains too and uh
not really any stores here because everything is probably so much cheaper
in Sweden. got a few kilometers to the first Camp spot I was looking
at. it’s going to be a bad mosquito situation. this uh road here is known
as the Northern Lights Route and it goes through Sweden Finland and Norway so I’m parked up uh here in Finland now
found a really nice uh spot here just by a lake and there’s full cell service and to
my relief I checked the diesel fuel tank and it is completely dry on the outside for
the past couple of days there’s been a little bit of moisture on the outside of the
tank and I’ve been thinking it might just be uh something that’s still been lingering on top
of the tank and it’s kind of uh run down as I drive so there’s been a drop or two of diesel
but now after driving 300 kilm or 200 miles it is 100% dry then I know there’s no leak and
that what we figured out at the garage uh was correct it’s 2: in the morning this
is what the Midnight Sun looks like without seeing the sun itself of course well good morning it’s uh been a good night slept
well and uh I was able to keep the mosquitoes out the mosquitoes are pretty bad out here uh
in Finland I use my little uh Mr mosquito uh electronic uh thing that uh works pretty well
through the night I’m not having any issues with uh getting mosquitoes inside right now this
morning as soon as I start walking around and I try to open the sunroofs uh with the mosquito
net uh in the use but they really get aggressive right away got my coffee and uh today I’m going
to head further into Finland and then I’m going to head back into Norway. up in the Arctic here
now so I see on my iPhone on the cover I have this uh thing here that says uh the sun will be
down again in 7 Days that’s pretty funny. so got Midnight Sun I’m going to try to experience the
Midnight Sun a little bit better as I get further north and out on these uh peninsulas um over
towards the Arctic sea or it’s really the Barents sea going to get some work done here in
the morning since I’m in Finland I’m uh 1 hour ahead so when I get back into
Norway I will get an hour back first and last little town in Finland before I
make for the Norwegian border I think there’s a Kmart store here I’m going to go and see if they
have that alcohol free IPA that I love so much here’s de K Market so that’s how a rural store looks in Finland
been getting a lot of requests for showing inside some of these stores and I always
forget to bring my camera but this time I remembered so just a little bit from the inside
there kind of find it a little bit embarrassing to film inside stores it’s uh kind of feels
like you’re invading people’s privacy anyway Let’s uh move on from uh Finnish
Lapland to Norwegian Lapland approaching the border now here’s the actual border and we’re in Norway Finnmark okay we’re in Kautokeino this is one of the coldest places in the Arctic Nordics here in Winter. now
it’s uh beautiful 19° C it’s around 66° F The Sami flag this is also one of the mosquito
capitals of the world I guess not much to it really but it is one of the hubs for Sami culture
I believe I am left the e45 and I’m heading over to Karasjok, another capital of uh mosquitoes.
a world capital of mosquitoes and also of the cold temperatures in Winter never driven
this road before so I hope I can get up high above this uh all this Forest here this
Arctic Forest is kind of limiting when it comes to getting good views and stuff so I
hope we’ll get above this tree line here okay I found this uh good spot right by this Creek
here it’s a trail head and the mosquitoes are going crazy so I hope I can keep them out out I’m
using my little thing already got that running but here’s some mosquito I open the door a few times
uh when I was checking out some other places and I got mosquitoes in here so I think I’m going to
put in one a fresh pad in that mosquito killer looks pretty mad it comes in the mosquitoes come
in the forced ventilation uh in the sunroof in the back of the van and I’ve added an extra mosquito net
there but they seem to be getting through that as well so let’s get the van settled in for the
night so I’ve made a little storage uh compartment or space for all my camera gear up here used to
have my PlayStation and all of that stuff before but now it’s camera gear I got uh headphones
couple of lenses tiny tripod DJI another lens my drone is in here and some other stuff in here
it’s a pretty easy and handy place to get hold of everything got some fruit today some uh nectarins, apples some more bananas going to take a little
break before I start on dinner it’s a long long day of driving again and uh the mosquitoes are
flocking to my mosquito net I hope this little uh Mr mosquito mosquito chaser starts working
it’s supposed to keep them out I had to open the sunroof to get some air in here because all of a
sudden as I parked the sun came back out in four and it’s getting hopped in here
anyway a good day of driving cheers my friends I was uh definitely a little bit
disappointed uh from uh Finnmarksvidda the Finnmark Plateau I always thought it was a
beautiful place with nice views and stuff like Hardangervidda but it’s just completely overgrown
with birch trees so it’s basically nothing to see when you drive across Finnmarksvidda it’s just
uh locked in basically in trees and they have not made any viewpoints so there’s really
nothing to see it’s a place you just want to get across as fast as possible yeah that’s
disappointing compared to what I’m going to go out to see next few days so my advice
is if you get up here don’t go to Finnmarksvidda to see anything it’s just a place to
drive quickly past and uh get out to the coast so it’s uh dinner time got some
small sliders from Spain that I need to cook uh before before they get old so
going to make some simple sliders today with mais buns and uh also chili
mayo and some salad and tomatoes this looks really nice way too much
food so going to save half it for tomorrow m nice of course the Tomato goes swish oh it’s so hot in here it’s 30° okay let’s see what we can do about this mosquito situation close this
down going to get a bunch of mosquitoes inside get away get away there go
got one inside and he’s dead good job there let’s see if we can use this on
both sides like you can with a Thermacell so this summer I’ve been reading Edward
Abby uh one of my favorite writers his uh novel Desert Solitaire it’s about his
life as a park ranger in Arches National Park before it was a paved National Park
and uh also before the Glen Canyon Dam was built to dam up the Colorado River so
very good book lot of things to think about here can you hear the sound of
the water rushing by outside Let us take a look at the midnight sun July 5th, somewhere deep in the arctic north It is Saturday, got my coffee made I was able to keep the mosquitoes away at nigh They came down on to the mosquito net and it seems like several of them perished there I thought the mosquito repellent was just chasing them away, but it seems like it actually kills the mosquitos that dont leave the area Not bothered by mosquitos inside through the night at all The sun is coming out even though there is rain on the forecast I have to get some work done, so I am going to stay in the area for a few hours until I continue into the arctic, Karasjok, Tana and east towards the ice sea, or Barents Sea If you enjoy the video I would really appreciate if you like the video and subscribe to my channel It helps a lot with my videos performance on Youtube I was warm this morning, so I was able to get a good shower and now I am heading to Karasjok and will continue to Tana and Vadsø I thought it was Saturday but it is actually Friday that is freedom when you can not separate the weekdays from the weekend lets go! This is the Sami parliament just a quick look since we are passing through That is it for Karasjok Not much to it, but huge cultural importance to the Sami people I am heading into Finland again Gonna drive on the opposite side of the river the Finnish side Down to another border crossing back into Norway Back and forth across the borders This is a very simple border Thats it There is a toll station up here I guess now we are in Finland I wonder if they are going to stop me I am in Finland on the other side of the river here is Norway There is a road over there that I had intended to be on but Google said this is fine No traffic here, and a pretty good view of the river Not a lot of vegetation along the road Looks like there are a lot of good camp sites here putting it on the map If you want to follow my maps, see my campsites and get access to exclusive videos & more, you can sign up to my Patreon page or as a member here on my YT channel I found my favorite IPA in a store here Got another border crossing coming up here is the border Not much to it as usual there is probably a customs station up ahead It is quite warm here, 23°c now, like 75°f raining a little bit back on the E6, heading towards the ice sea and the Dragon Coast As far north and east as you can get, into the Barents sea Gonna have Russia on the other side of the water and this is one of my favorite places in the arctic I am gonna go out there and then I am going to follow the coast line on the northern shores of arctic Europe and arctic Norway incredible places Gonna be several episodes of the magic coastal travels heading out to the ice ocean this is called the road to the ice ocean and eventually to the Dragon Coast Rain The flowers are really popping now so beautiful Got 8 km left to Vadsø 5 miles I am camping in the centre of town by the library this is Vadsø Only a few months since I was here This is where I want to park When I was here the last time it was a huge snow pit, so you could not see the ocean now it is really beautiful let of campers here Great view Here is my favorite Finnish IPA I discovered this in the winter Nice beautiful place I wonder what that is? Tomorrow I am rounding the peninsula and heading further north and east There was a wall of snow here in winter so i couldnt see the ocean at all Now I got a beautiful ocean view It started raining again as usual It is cozy it is so peaceful with rain on the van It is time for dinner gonna make a tikka masala with ground beef and rice no chicken today but I have some ground beef that I need to get rid of before it expires Tikka masala, not done the right way but it will be tasty anyway Gonna watch and episode of “the mayor of Kingstown” Crazy with all this rain it just wont stop So cozy The forecast looks better for tomorrow It is going to rain a lot and then it is getting better, then worse, then better then worse I started a new book yesterday, John Grisham It is time to start on this amazing journey to Hamningberg As far north and east as we can get But first time to empty the toilet and grey water I thought i was first in line, but there is one in front of me that looks real slow Pretty cool place to park this as well This road is one of my favorite roads in all the arctic cant wait to show you this Approaching Vardø Not gonna stop here now gonna continue towards Hamningberg a lot of reindeer on the road today gonna turn left here And so it begins, this road is very special Very narrow road here i wish I was able to fly the drone here but a lot of this road is nature preserve so I am not allowed to fly for this first part here at least epic Welcome to the Dragon Coast! This landscape is so interesting Pretty sure I have not seen anything like this anywhere look at this 24°c or 75°f I got exactly the campsite I wanted I am staying here for a few days Weather looks great right now But it will rain later Gonna check the forecast and see whats up The most important tool for van life, universal wipes Got another Finnish IPA This one is just as good as the other one This camp is perfect! The weather will be bad Gonna start raining in a few hours Gonna rain through the night and tomorrow it will be beautiful but windy Really cant beat this view here This place is great for watching the midnight sun if it was not cloudy and we have the reindeer running around It is time for dinner gonna make something simple leftover tikka masala from yesterday turn it into a burrito and here comes the rain time to close the mosquito door that is decent for a leftover dinner my dinner view is reindeer that is so cool Now I am at Hamningberg this is the furthest north/east you can get i am going to start traveling west and north you can still get further north but I am going to follow this arctic coast line through all these fjords and nooks and crannies that you have up here on the northern frontier of Europe it is quite extraordinary and one of my favorite places in summer so I am traveling through all these magical places towards the north west now If you want to follow my maps, see my camp sites and get exclusive videos you can sign up to my Patreon page or become a member here on my channel by clicking “join” That is going to be the next month or two by the time I end my time in Lofoten it will probably be time to go to the US it is going to be a really cool summer up here I am just concerned about the weather, because that is always an issue in this country Rain and storms seem to follow me If you enjoy these videos it would mean a whole lot to me if you like and subscribe! Thanks in advance! There is also desert in the form of fruit Finnish banana from Costa Rica Right over here you have a fjord called Syltefjord and it is a few km/miles from here but to get there you have to drive 300km or 200 miles I can see the Hurtigruten ship “Polarlys” way out in the ocean and here comes the rain always the rain it is extremely windy today it is also a beautiful morning, so my batteries have been fully charged by my 180w solar panel It is too windy for drone flying today battery is full water is 3/4 full and grey water is pretty much empty yesterday I had to turn on the heater for a little bit it got really cold but today the sun is baking the van first the most important meal of the day, coffee Today the tour starts the arctic coastline tour gonna follow the edge of the arctic coastline towards the west I am now all the way to the east you can see Russia from the other side here This is gonna be several weeks of edging the northern coast of Europe Gonna check out some amazing scenery Instead of staying for another day in the wind I am going to drive a little bit further to the south and start rounding this peninsula I have couple of really cool spots I want to look at First let us drive through the little village of Hamningberg the reindeer are everywhere Some good parking here End of the road Look at this amazing beach Beautiful little town that is probably mostly holiday homes now i dont think people live here in winter the road is closed in winter What is the last thing that come to your mind when you think about the arctic? I went into the centre of Vardø and there is a great camp here right by the sea feels a little bit more sheltered than where i was there are other campers here, but they are all facing away from the sea This is the view to side this is the view out front (bird and wave sounds) Here comes the coast guard This ship is name after me, KV Jarl keeping an eye on fishing activity Do you want to know why it was named after me? it is 1:20 in the morning and here is the midnight sun looks like a massive storm that is some dark clouds here comes that rain this is gonna be massive (heavy rain storm sounds) I was going to have a peaceful day of editing a video here and then this massive cloud came in and now it is just pouring down So I had to capture this on camera it has been quite windy, and then the wind died down and this massive cloud came in from the north there is no end to the rain here Here comes Hurtigruten as well and the coast guard is just staying put in calm waters There are two coast guard ships of this power in Norway One is named “Bison” So the naturally had to name the other one “Jarl” They will get into a lot of storms obviously I spent a couple of days here getting some work done and watching ships pass by and the midnight sun gonna move on today gonna go down to Vadsø and then continue up north and west to the arctic coast Most of the coast facing north with the North Pole being the next stop across the ocean so lets get moving Seagulls I spotted this trail it goes to east cape I guess that is the easternmost point you can get to on this peninsula the first part was a little bit tricky and the road is a little bit scary in terms of sharp rocks but it is not difficult driving let us see how far I can get this would be a great place to camp so I am going to put this in my maps for my channel members and Patreons you can easly do it in a 2wd and it does not need to be high clearance either but it is a little bit bumpy and there is a lot of sharp rocks gotta be careful I think I can close this loop and get down into a little village on the other side it is sadly too early to camp There is an old fort up here from WW2 got these reindeer here looking across the ocean to Russia This is an old canon overlooking the ocean This is the canon that was stationed here German canon from world war 2 it was used once shooting at seagulls this area is a whole battery of canons These holes in the mountain are probably a network of tunnels with the Russian shore on the other side I guess that is east cape The main canon was named Moltke, 280 mm, 300kg grenades with a reach of 34 km 21 miles. Old military secrets Special forces More old canons Very special forces! Very cool place this is the ultimate arctic camp but it is too early to camp Up here is that main canon The shore line on the other side of the ocean is 54 km over to Russia A little bit more to the right is Kirkenes and Grense Jakobselv What a place! I am gonna come back to this place Gonna make a pretty big note of this place on my maps it might look like a 4 wheel drive roads but it is not i am doing a loop down to the village here looks doable there are benches and trash cans up here so the are is clearly ment to be used and if you have good binoculars you can look over to Russia feels like you are on the frontier the wild east look at this view another canon this might be the crux this very sharp turn no problem the challenge of this road is sharp rocks I am nearly down now and that is the one thing that worried me Doing another little detour here to this other little peninsula I am back in Vadsø because the have public wifi here, so I can upload a video it is pretty fast as well i was looking at the Peakfinder app and I saw that these mountain out here are also in Russia it is kind of cool that you can see that here from Vadsø Got a 100-400 lens on my camera that also have a 150-600 mm crop mode This are here is Grense Jakobselv Want to see more from my adventures? have a look at this!

Or as I would say:
The Arctic frontier you never imagined. 3 hours of Full time van life living in the Arctic from past summer. I am 100% Off-Grid with my RV van in the remote arctic borderlands of Norway, Sweden and Finland. This is what a life of freedom looks like. You might think that the US in Alaska or Canada would be the best place for living remotely 100% self contained off-grid with a tiny cabin on wheels, but the Nordics have it all, without the hassle, even as a solo female traveler you can be safe here. No danger or scary stuff will happen to you, except maybe some extreme weather. In summer the heavy rain is pouring down in thunderous cascades, but it is very relaxing #VanLifeAdventure! So, after surviving a hard winter of extreme blizzard and snow storm camping, I am ready for Cozy Spring and summer adventures in my RV luxury van, been considering a truck camper lately also been watching some cool Van Build videos from Trent the traveler lately that makes me want to build my own van, although I do not have the skill for this, his Sprinter van build looks awesome. This episode contains experimental van Cooking, Pizza, Relaxing, Reading & Sheltering in Hail & Heavy Rain Storms. The summer of two years ago I decided to move into my cozy luxury van, travel full time and see what vanlife alone is actually like. I had spent the previous summer and winter in the van riding out thunderstorms, snow storms, blizzards and freezing temperatures, but now it was time for full time summer van life in the Arctic. Come along for my first month of living full time in the van in the challenges of the Arctic, driving around the remote arctic Norway in intense rain and heat waves, with all kinds of strange nature beyond what National Geographic would show you.
My van is a Fiat Ducato, FWD with Nokian Winter Tires. This is the same as a Ram Promaster in the USA and Canada but with a diesel engine and manual transmission.
Enjoy the video my American friends in Alaska, California, Texas, New York, Illinois, Ohio, Wyoming, Washington, Utah, Colorado, Florida, Montana, Michigan, Oregon, Pennsylvania, North, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia and every other state in the USA and America! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Epic film Jarl with fitting immersive sound as always. So much vibrant colour. Was wondering if the poles alongside the roads that are in your winter films are taken away each spring when the snow disappears? If so it must be a huge job putting them all out again in winter! Thanks again Jarl and Best Wishes from the Suffolk Coast, England.
this video sucks. it didnt even work

As much as I love scenery with snow, it’s always just as beautiful seeing the scenery uncovered:) The rocks against the colors of the waters with the textures in the clouds, stunning ❤️ And those reindeer 😍
