I went exploring Mt. Takao in Hachioji City, Tokyo, Japan. During the beautiful fall foliage season, many tourists ride the chairlift to the top of Mt. Takao from Yakuo-in Temple. Please enjoy it as a virtual walk.
Mount Takao is a 599 meter high mountain located in Hachioji City, Tokyo, and is known as the mountain with the most climbers in the world, with approximately 3 million people visiting each year as it can be accessed in about an hour from central Tokyo. Especially during the autumn foliage season from mid-November to early December, many tourists visit, and the entire mountain is covered in beautiful autumn foliage.
Takaosan Yakuo-in Temple, which has a history of about 1,200 years, is located halfway up the mountain, and you can easily visit the shrine and access the mountaintop by using the cable car or lift. You can also enjoy a spectacular view of the Kanto Plain and Mt. Fuji from the mountaintop. In 2007, Mt. Takao was awarded the highest rank of three stars in the tourism category of the Michelin Guide, and in 2020 it was also certified as a “”Japanese Heritage Site.”” Mt. Takao’s rich nature, history, and easy access from the city center are major attractions of Mt. Takao.
