小笠原父島３日目。天候不良のため、今回の旅で唯一予約していたドルフィンスイムのツアーが中止になった。
僕たちは、今日はどうしようかね、と途方にくれていた。
そして、せっかく近くだからと、なんとなく大神山神社にお参りをすることにした。
立派な石段を登ると、大切に守られた相撲の土俵が見えた。きっとお祭りで奉納相撲をするのだろう。さらに石段を上がると、実に美しい赤いお社が現れた。
お参りをして、ベンチに腰かけると、二見湾がよく見えた。
東京からはるか１０００キロのこの村に、人々が参拝し大切に奉る神社があって、奉納相撲やお祭りがおこなわれている。ああ、日本にいるのだなあ、と、ほっと心がやすらいだ。
大神神社は展望台へと続く公園になっていて、二見湾だけではなく、宮之浜方面へと続く道路と、その先の海までよく見えた。
「あれ？なんだか波が穏やかだワン！シュノーケルに行くワン！」
僕が泳ぎたくてワンワン吠えると、マスターぴょん太は、しょうがないぴょん、というようにうなづいた。
そう、これから宮之浜へ行ってみよう！今日もシュノーケル三昧で過ごすのだ！

Third day on Chichijima Island in the Ogasawara Islands.
Due to bad weather, the only tour we had booked for this trip, a dolphin swim, was cancelled.
We were at a loss as to what to do today.
We decided to pay a visit to the Oogamiyama shrine because it was so close by.
As we climbed the magnificent stone steps, we saw a carefully protected sumo ring.
I guessed that ritual sumo matches would be dedicated during a village festival.
Further up the stone steps, a beautiful red shrine appeared.
After praying the shrine, we sat on a bench, and from there we had a clear view of Futami Bay.
In this village 1000 kilometers away from Tokyo, there is a shrine that people visit and pray, dedicate with great care, where dedicatory sumo matches and festivals are held.
The shrine was in a park leading to different levels of observatory, from which we could see not only Futami Bay, but also the road leading to Miyanohama beach and the ocean beyond.
What’s that? The waves are calm! I’m going snorkeling!
I barked, wanting to swim, and Master Pyonta nodded in agreement.
Yes, let’s go to Miyanohama beach now! Today, too, we would spend the day snorkeling!
