I’ve been traveling Asia for 6 months. Currently, in Thailand.
In my personal experience having an authentic experience does not mean getting food poisoning, sleeping in poor conditions, or going to the countryside.
Some really nice comments about Chiang Mai. I don't think Thailand is losing its reputation. There's pretty much something for everyone. I particularly like Hua Hin. But I've also developed a fondness for Chiang Mai which I would describe as a big university town. It has a good vibe and a range of ages (unlike Hua Hin). I stay in Chiang Mai for a few weeks in August each year, and have become involved with a local rugby club – Go the Cobras!
In 10 day i hope been in KL Penang and Langkawi 😊, not Street stress, less crwded

The old guy who said "they speak more English here" cannot be correct. I have been to S. Korea many times and have lived in CNX for years and people in Seoul and Busan speak more English than msot Thai people.
Thailand is not the land of smiles it used to be…unless you miss out the tourist areas.
for people who are in Thailand the first time have no comparison to how it used to be many years ago but if you were in Thailand back then you can see how much has changed.
Thailand is beautiful and never loses it´s charm but you must not get negative thought when you start comparing it with the past because it´s the way of things that things change

Thailand is great. You want to go 3rd world go to Loas and Cambodia. Vietnam people don't speak good English and Philippines is a nightmare going around the roads. Too each there own

The Thais have created an insane culture and were blessed with an insane natural landscape. It is many people's favorite country in the whole world. Plus it is growing and developing at a rapid rate and they will only continue to build more amazing experiences for the world to enjoy. I don't think it will ever lose its reputation. It will only continue to get more popular.
Thailand is an incredible place. I’ve been Phuket twice, Bangkok, CM and CR all in the last year and a little part of me gets left behind each time. Amazing country, great food and the loveliest people you could ever wish to meet.

As much beautiful as a country is Thailand are full of taxi scammers. The Thai government needs to sort out the issue big time.
In pattaya the Thai local authorities need to sort out those big groups of illegal Cambodian, Myanmar beggars that exploiting their own small children on the streets. This is not the same group of street performers and beggars is illegal in Thailand. Their behavior is standing stiff watching you awkwardly with small crying, pleading or sterner stares from both children and adults.They really do bothering people from eating in the restaurant, food shopping on street markets, personal resting time by the beach & etc.
These things happen. You can't be famous forever.
With respect, I strongly DISAGREE, Thailand has become too ''westernized'' and crowed tourism has changed the '' uniqueness '' of what Thailand represents as a culture and its attractiveness.

The people, prices, places to see, Thailand is a great visit. But long term, Thailand is losing its luster. Taxes, bureaucracy, air pollution, it is all getting worse.
Too many foreigners. Too many russians especially. Cant stay in the major cities anymore
Thailand is very touristy and they only like rich Farang.
Thailand is being ruined by ignorant drunken westerners.
