Fukuoka, Dusk and Dawn (Virtual Tour) (AJ Walks) (Smooth Jazz) (4K)
Sunny Fukuoka, where the heat and humidity was a shock to the system after the cool climate of Sapporo in Autumn! I could clearly see the humidity increasing as the plane descended (in case you missed it, how we got here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23C3pWyErBk ).
Fun fact – there is a Fukuoka Garden in Auckland, next to the zoo, as there is a sister city relationship between the two, which I only learnt of when visiting it a few months before my trip! I could not find an Auckland Garden in Fukuoka, though…
Originally I had grander plans for how to spend the afternoon after arriving and checking in, but this was the halfway point of my trip and the long days of activity were taking their toll, and the change in climate was proving too much of a challenge. So rather than try to cram in a visit to the giant buddha or the old castle grounds, I took a walk around the local canal district area before catching a bus to go up Fukuoka Tower for a view across the city and harbour – and a high altitude curry dinner! The next morning, after enjoying the sunrise ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zD1Ck889-ys ) I extended my walking range slightly further to check out one of the other nearby parks, a cluster of temples, and the Canal City shopping area – a neatly designed area with a cool amphitheatre space for media presentations. Unfortunately I missed have just missed Chris (@AbroadinJapan ) and Natsuki who were seemingly there at around the same time, judging by the same Tsukimi decorations that featured in @CameramanPaul ‘s behind the scenes vlog of their experience: https://youtu.be/gYjN0YQfhAA?t=3182
Next stop, Fukuyama! Base of operations for exploring Himeji, and even Shikoku!
