    Bhai i suggest you use iPhone for navigation. "Apple Maps" are very convenient and user-friendly abroad, especially in such remote areas and the good thing about it is that you won't be needing to use it with VPN. Google doesn't work properly without a VPN in such areas, especially such remote areas like Mongolian region.
    Plus, I suggest you use "Baidu Translate" for proper communication with such people and you need to communicate well with them, don't just ask with gestures and directly saying "Ok Thank You". I've 6 years living experience in China and have experienced such issues. I hope my suggestions would be helpful for your smooth journey.
