I'm always impressed by the food in Japan but even just the Ekiben. Here all you'll find at a station is some really depressing sandwiches, your travel food looks sooo good.

I bloody hate train travel, except on short business trips where you can get away with practically no luggage. Otherwise you always have to wrestle bloody big suitcases around, people come from both directions, you have to back up to let them past, nobody has any respect, it's always crowded even in first if you have luggage, there's never enough room for everybody's suitcases… No, until the railroads reinstate baggage checkin like they used to have, I'll give trains a wide berth whenever I can.
Fun fact: That trip took longer than the one you had the huge suite on.

I'm afraid the 50-year-old Tokaido Shinkansen is a bit shaky compared to other lines. I hope they can perform a full-scale repair in the near future.
There have been recent moves to bring the N700S to the Texas Central HSR system. Amtrak has recently levied its support for the project, the Texas Supreme Court has granted eminent domain, and the recent meeting between Biden and Kishida has hinted at progression in the idea.
I would love, love to have this system in Texas. It would provide a solution to the problem of crowded Texas intercity highways, and link the cities in the Texas triangle in a way no other megalopolis in America is.
