I went to Sengakuji Temple in Minato Ward, Tokyo, Japan. This is a place where history and stories intertwine, and is the burial place of the Ako Ronin, the heroes of Chushingura. In this video, you can relive the Edo period drama through a virtual walk. Walk the cobblestones, touch ancient tombstones, and enjoy the timeless tranquility of this place, where stories of loyalty and revenge are still alive.
Sengakuji is a Soto sect temple founded by Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1612, and after being destroyed in a great fire in 1641, it was rebuilt in present-day Takanawa. In the precincts, there are the graves of Asano Takumi Kami Naganori and the 47 Ako samurai, whose fates are known as moving anecdotes for many Japanese people. In particular, the remains of the “Kubiarai Ido” where Kira Kaminosuke’s neck is said to have been washed vividly remind us of the events of that era. In addition, many worshipers visit the Ako Gishi Festival held on December 14th every year to remember their courage and loyalty.
