滞在中の蘇州にて、地元の大富豪の結婚式に参加させてもらった。西洋風にブライズメイド付きの花嫁は、新郎が迎えにくるのを実家で待ち構える。新郎はブライズメイドに紅包と呼ばれるお金入りの封筒を渡さないと新婦に会うことができない。子孫繁栄を願って子供をベッドの上で転がらせる。敬茶儀式を通して新郎新婦は相手の親を初めてお父さんお母さんと呼べるようになる。式場の入り口ではタバコが配られる。めでたい日に子供も大人もおおはしゃぎだ。伝統を守りながら、時代と共に変化していく結婚式。

During my stay in Suzhou, I attended a wedding of a local millionaire. In Western style, the bride, accompanied by bridesmaids, waits at her parents’ home for the groom to come pick her up. The groom cannot meet the bride unless he gives bridesmaids an envelope containing money called a hongbao. Children are made to roll around on the bed in hopes of prospering their descendants. Through the tea ceremony, the bride and groom are able to call their parents father and mother for the first time. Cigarettes will be handed out at the entrance to the ceremony hall. Both children and adults have fun on this auspicious day. Weddings change with the times while preserving tradition.

在苏州期间，我参加了当地一位百万富翁的婚礼。在西式风格中，新娘在伴娘的陪同下，到父母家等待新郎来接她。新郎必须给伴娘红包才能见到新娘。孩子们被要求在床上打滚，希望子孙繁衍。通过敬茶仪式，新娘和新郎第一次可以称呼对方的父母为爸爸妈妈。香烟将在会场入口分发。在这个吉祥的日子里，孩子和大人都玩得很开心。婚礼在保留传统的同时，随着时代变化。
