Established on a rocky outcrop, dominating the Côte d’Azur, Tourrettes sur Loup is one of the most beautiful hilltop villages in the Middle Country. It enjoys an ideal geographical location, between the sea and the mountains, 25 km from Nice and 35 km from Cannes.

3961 inhabitants, Cité des Violettes, medieval village established on a rocky outcrop whose end, like the prow of a ship, faces the sea to the south, dominating, to the east and west, deep ravines

Medieval city, it has managed to preserve its authenticity. Fortified around its imposing castle around the 15th century, Tourrettes sur Loup has an original architectural richness, articulated around a central half-moon artery. A secret village, it only reveals its mystery once you have passed through the doors located on each side of the square.

A village popular with filmmakers since 1925, Tourrettes sur Loup became, after the 1940s, a major meeting place for artists conquered by the beauty of its panorama and the charm of its old streets: musicians, painters, architects, writers, craftsmen… This is how today the City of Tourrettes sur Loup has more than thirty workshops and shops and remains one of the most attractive villages in terms of Arts and Crafts.

From the prehistoric man who lodged in Pie Lombard to the present day, the history of this place conducive to defense has been turbulent before becoming this craft and artistic mecca, a peaceful refuge for the muses.TOURRETTES LES VENCE became TOURRETES DE VENCE will not have its definitive name until 1894, taking, from the river which limits it to the South, its name “LE LOUP”. TOURRETTES ON WOLF.The Church “St Grégoire Le Grand” built in the 12th century extra muros is of Romanesque style with a southern opening facing the drawbridge which closed the village.
Rebuilt in 1551 on a larger scale, before adding the side chapels in 1645 and 1648 with various works in the centuries that followed to deliver it to us today, with remarkable acoustics, suitable for many choir concerts.It conceals some beautiful woodwork, in particular a recently vandalized 16th century panel and a 17th century baptismal font. quadrangular tower (watchtower) supports a Lombard bell tower housing the Tourretttane dressed in her verdigris dress, one of the oldest bells in the department on which we read “vox Domini sona” (which the voice of the Lord calls) “gift” without doubt of the Commandery of the Templars of Saint Martin de Pelote.
In the maze of alleys and dead ends, old houses shelter weavers, potters, sculptors, olive wood, jewellery. Painters. Poets, all facets of the Arts as well as Music, a Luthier and vocal ensemble whose reputation goes beyond our borders.TOURRETTES remains the City of Violets, however, with its Violet Festival, which attracts many visitors.

    I work with people with different sorts of dementia. The reason I comment is to thank you for uploading this. Currently I take care of a man with bad Alzheimer's, who suffers from deep anxiety and depression. He gets very worried easily and tonight I put him to bed as usual. Usually he gets up as soon as I leave his bedside, but this evening I started this track and sat down on a chair next to his bed. It took him about 2 minutes to fall asleep, and right now he's in really deep sleep and I'm sat here listening to this beautiful music and the man's deep, relaxing breathing. I thank you for this moment.

    Just WOW! The village looks just like out of a fairy tale, very charming with all those winding mazes, stairs leading to secret nooks or open spaces. Surely an artists' village with all those delightful little shops. Wonderful street tour by the way, kudos.
