Town Mikoshi Joint Parade
At the main festival, which is held once every three years, 12 large mikoshi from each parishioner town form a procession and perform a joint parade. It is also called “Seisoroi” and takes place on Sundays during the annual festival. The procession gathers in front of Sarue Bridge early in the morning, travels west along Takahashi Shopping Street, and presents each town’s mikoshi in front of the Shinmei Shrine torii gate. It continues to Mannenbashi Street, heads north to Shin-Ohashi and Chitose, and in the afternoon heads south along Kiyosumi Street and arrives at Morishita intersection. At the final ceremony, 12 town mikoshi are lined up on the main street, and 10,000 people, including carriers and pilgrims, clasp their hands together. As it is called the “Mizu-kake Matsuri” (Water-throwing Festival), it is a heroic festival in which purifying water is vigorously poured on the carriers from the sidelines. The traditional call is “Wasshoi.”
