いつもご視聴ありがとうございます。今回は、広島県福山市に位置する美しい港町「鞆の浦」と、そこに浮かぶ神秘的な「仙酔島」をご紹介します。鞆の浦は、古代から「潮待ちの港」として栄え、現在でもその風情を色濃く残す観光地です。そんな鞆の浦から船で渡ることができる仙酔島は、パワースポットとして知られ、歴代の天皇や要人が訪れたと言われています。
まず、仙酔島へのアクセスについてですが、伝統的な「いろは丸」での船旅が魅力的です。いろは丸は、風情ある小さな船で、島へと続く短い旅路は、まるで時間が止まったかのような静寂に包まれています。
島に上陸すると、まず目を引くのが「ここから」という旅館です。この旅館には、龍の伝説が絵画として残されており、訪れる者に深い印象を与えます。仙酔島全体が大自然に囲まれたスピリチュアルな空間であり、その中でも特に五色岩が見どころです。しかし、残念ながら現在、五色岩へ続く遊歩道が通行止めとなっており、今回は過去に撮影した写真を通じてその美しさをご紹介します。
五色岩は、青（緑）、赤、黄、白、黒（紫）の五色に彩られた珍しい地層で、仙酔島にしか見られない自然の芸術品です。この岩は、約9,000万年前の火山活動によって形成され、その地質的な価値も非常に高いものとなっています。また、島内には200ヵ所以上の海食洞（かいしょくどう）と呼ばれる天然の洞窟が点在し、その多くが高さ3〜5メートルの位置にあり、遠い昔にこの地がどれほど水位が高かったかを物語っています。
仙酔島は、歴史的にも非常に興味深い場所です。例えば、江戸時代には鞆の浦の対岸にある福禅寺対潮楼が朝鮮通信使の迎賓館として使用されていました。1711年、対潮楼を訪れた朝鮮の従事官・李邦彦は、仙酔島の美しさに感動し、「日東第一形勝（朝鮮より東で最も美しい景勝地）」と称賛しました。

In this episode, we take you on a virtual tour to the beautiful port town of Tomonoura, located in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, and the mystical Sensuijima Island, which floats off its coast. Tomonoura has flourished since ancient times as a port for waiting for favorable tides, and today, it retains much of its historical charm. Sensuijima, accessible by boat from Tomonoura, is known as a spiritual power spot, visited by emperors and dignitaries throughout history.
The journey to Sensuijima begins with a ride on the traditional “Irohamaru” boat. This charming, small vessel takes you on a short but serene trip to the island, where time seems to stand still.
Upon landing on the island, one of the first sights to catch your eye is the inn called “Kokokara.” This inn features paintings depicting the legend of a dragon, leaving a deep impression on visitors. Sensuijima as a whole is a spiritual space surrounded by nature, with the stunning Goshiki Rock being a particular highlight. Unfortunately, the path leading to Goshiki Rock is currently closed, so in this video, we’ll introduce this natural wonder through past photographs.
Goshiki Rock is a unique geological formation, showcasing five colors: blue (green), red, yellow, white, and black (purple). This natural masterpiece is only found on Sensuijima, formed around 90 million years ago due to volcanic activity. The island also features over 200 sea caves, formed by the relentless waves over millennia. These caves, located 3-5 meters above the current sea level, indicate that the sea level was much higher in ancient times.
Sensuijima is also rich in history. For example, during the Edo period, the Taicho-ro Pavilion at Fukuenji Temple on the opposite shore of Tomonoura served as a guesthouse for Korean envoys. In 1711, a Korean official, Lee Bang-han, visited Taicho-ro and was so moved by the beauty of Sensuijima that he praised it as “Nitto Daiichi Keisho” (the most beautiful scenic spot east of Korea).
