Hi everyone, I’m Phil. That’s right, we’re here again to share about the delicious food and attractions in Sapporo. We’ve arrived at the Makomanai Takino Cemetery Park. That’s right, the name is quite hard to pronounce. The most famous feature here is these Moai stone statues. The weather today is fantastic. Look at the sunlight streaming down. And the snow is sparkling on the ground. When I first found out that this park is integrated with a cemetery, I have to admit I was quite surprised. But being here in person, it feels very peaceful. There’s no eerie atmosphere at all. We came here to catch a glimpse of the "Hill of the Buddha" designed by Tadao Ando. You can see the top of the Buddha’s head from afar, peeking out from the snowdrifts. Next, on our way back, we stopped by the Sapporo Art Park. Just looking at the map of this park, you can tell it’s huge. The Sculpture Garden offers free admission during the winter. All the exhibits are buried in the snow. That’s right, haha, you’re imitating very well. Great job! This is the cost of winter—free admission to the Sculpture Garden. Yeah, the snow just got inside everything. That’s right. Let’s share some transportation information on how to get to the aforementioned attractions. First, take the Namboku Line to Makomanai Station. Then, wait at Bus Stop No. 2 near the station. You can take either the 106 or 108 bus. Let’s go have dinner. We made a reservation for this place two days ago because when we came the other day, there were no seats available. Today is perfect for hot pot. That’s right, they serve beef offal hot pot. Yes. They have a really cute coaster Hey, a cow surfing on it. This one is miso. And this one is green onion salt. Smells really good. We ordered 12 pan-fried dumplings. He already divided them into 6 each, which is very thoughtful. The other plate is here. Oh, the hot pot is starting to boil. Such a crispy sound. The miso is very smooth. And the saltiness is just right. This must be a part of the cow. The texture is very chewy. Not sure which part it is. This should be liver. Hey, it actually doesn’t taste too gamey. Let’s try some tofu. The aroma of the tofu is strong. They even added some chili inside. So it has a spicy miso flavor. Delicious. Wow. When I scooped it just now, the flavor of the pepper salt was really strong. This is some internal organ of the beef… not sure where from. Hehe. Doesn’t matter. Super chewy. Even chewier than chewing gum. But it’s beefy. The flavor of the beef is really delicious. The soup is really tasty. Yes. Really. The soup is amazing. Overall, the flavors here are pretty good. We ordered the two-color hot pot. Which one do you prefer? If I had to choose, miso. What about you? I’d go for green onion salt. Hey, our choices are different. Because I feel like with miso, it’s my preference again. Miso is sweet. I’m just not really fond of it. And with green onion salt, I feel like there’s enough fiber. There are a lot of vegetables and green onions inside, that whole big round base of green onion. That thick, round green onion is also very tasty. And we also ordered dumplings. For the dumplings, I feel like they’re quite oily. Yes, they taste good overall, but the downside is they’re a bit oily. Yes, they’re crispy when you first bite into them, which is quite satisfying, but then when you eat them, the oil kind of seeps into the dumplings. Right. The mentaiko tamagoyaki is pretty good. Yes, I recommend that. Yes, everyone can order that. Yes, this place is not bad. Remember, if it’s Friday or Saturday night, it might be more crowded. Yes, it’s better to make a reservation in advance. More likely to have a table. Otherwise, try coming on other days. Overall, the food here is delicious and the atmosphere is very nice. It’s in a historical house. Yes, the atmosphere is great. That’s right. Everyone is quiet and calm. Speaking softly. OK. I recommend this high-value-for-money yakiniku restaurant "Sumi-ya". There were many customers that day, had to wait for half an hour. Luckily, there’s a video game arcade nearby, a fun place to escape the snow and have some fun. Finally, it’s time for some yakiniku! Oh, everything’s in Japanese on the menu, huh? Can’t understand a thing? No worries! They’ve got menus in multiple languages! Korean, Chinese, and English. Ordering’s a breeze now! This wagashi shop is in the underground passage of Sapporo Station. The production process is so soothing. We noticed it before as there were many people. We came to buy as soon as it opened. It’s hot. Called "touman." It tastes like sponge cake. The smell. There’s filling inside. Similar to white sugar. It’s white bean paste. Very much like white bean paste. I think this is delicious. The taste is very refreshing. There won’t be that sour feeling lingering in your mouth after eating dessert. The Sapporo Snow Festival is underway! Here, the Self-Defense Forces are creating large snow sculptures. There are also sculptures like "Yubaba" from "Spirited Away," "Godzilla," and the recently popular "Shohei Ohtani." The creators enthusiastically showcase the prototypes for everyone to see. Although we couldn’t attend the official opening of the Sapporo Snow Festival this time, seeing the hard work behind the scenes is still incredibly impressive. We’ve arrived at the Sapporo Beer Museum! Come on, let’s go have some drinks. Now, we’re heading to the third floor. It’s strange that they specifically prohibit recording in the exhibition area. Quite curious. After the tour, don’t forget to try some beer tasting. The prices for various beers are listed above. Tastings still require payment. This one, 1,000 yen for three. What should I press? Oh, haha, oops. How embarrassing. He’s a beer enthusiast. He’s very happy. This is 1000 yen. Didn’t get to drink it last year. So, today, specially came again, that’s right. Closed on Mondays. Closed on Mondays, so don’t come on Mondays, everyone. Down the hatch! He’s done after just one drink. Haha! But honestly, I’m feeling pretty fuzzy too. Because I drank too quickly just now. Feeling a bit woozy. And business is booming! It’s completely packed inside. Right. We’re quite lucky. We’re right in a beautiful spot with good lighting. The drinks are quite tasty. Yeah, the drinks are really good. You prefer the second one (Black Label), right? Yes. I prefer the third one (Explorer). It’s the one with the barley bar. Yeah, that one is the most expensive. But if you prefer something refreshing, the cheaper one (Classic) would be fine. But actually, the second (Black Label) and the third (Explorer) These two are quite similar. I like the (Black Label) because it has a bit of sweetness to it. A slightly sweet taste, okay. The two flavors are quite similar. There’s a bigger gap compared to the first one (Classic). The first one I can tell It’s, um, cheap beer. Haha I can tell. One, two, three. Great, thank you. The Shiroikoibito Park lights up every winter. We came here specifically to experience a different atmosphere. Wow, it’s so warm. Yeah, it’s really warm inside. We ordered dry dan dan noodles. And also spicy dan dan noodles. In addition, we added 200 yen each. Ordered side dishes. They are respectively meat miso egg rice. And a small char siu rice. It’s supposed to go with this. I think I added too much. Oh no. It tastes like vinegar, huh? Yeah, it’s vinegar. Delicious. So tasty. Really, really good. Highly recommended. Start by stirring the noodles. Wow, these noodles are thick! Yeah, they’re thick noodles. These noodles are really chewy. And they’re spicy too. It’s a heavily garlic-flavored char siu. The char siu is served with tasty rice. It’s just like our Taiwanese minced pork rice, with that half-cooked egg added. I think it’s a similar concept with a different twist. Grind the chili directly. I think it needs to be added. It will enhance the flavor when added. Even tastier. Even though this place isn’t popular, we personally find it very spicy. Delicious, indeed! Highly recommended for everyone. You know what I really love? Those shrines blanketed in pure white snow come winter. Especially on mornings like today, when the sun’s peeking out ever so shyly, it’s just perfect for a leisurely stroll through Sapporo’s Sōwa Shrine. Hey, check out these three little figures here. And this cute snowman next to them. You know what? They’re actually fortune-telling charms. Even the snowman? Yeah, even the snowman. This kid’s gonna love these. I’ll grab them for them. This is my first time drawing a fortune slip at a shrine. Here it goes… How’s my luck for this year? Oh, uncertain luck. "Bones shattered, body crushed!!" That’s so scary! "Bones shattered, body crushed" It’s okay. First draw and it’s uncertain luck. It’s fine. Alright, it’s my turn now. I’m so nervous. I just saw yours. You got the worst luck, didn’t you? I wonder how I’ll fare. Oh, there’s also a gold coin inside. The greatest fortune. Yes! And there’s even a gold coin. So cute. Go away!!! Its ice cream The milky flavor is super rich It’s probably the richest ice cream I’ve ever had The texture is quite elastic as soon as it’s cut. Very springy. Let’s try the cream. The cream is also very refreshing. I don’t think it’s very sweet. The ice cream is sweeter. Much sweeter. I guess this is apple jam. The aroma of the apple is strong. It’s also very intense. And there’s both sourness and sweetness. Actually, the fragrance is all there. This is well made. Let’s try this one. Oh, it has bits. This one has bits in it. Blueberry, very fresh. Feels like fresh fruit. Toffee, huh? I thought it was caramel just now. Toffee and caramel, are quite similar. Yeah. We just finished dining at this café. I think it wasn’t convenient to introduce inside the shop. Their pancakes are quite elastic. Two slices. The texture is a bit chewy. And it’s kind of fluffy, airy. Yes, they’ll give you five kinds of dipping sauces. Which one do you like the most? I personally prefer the apple sauce. Because the apple sauce is a bit tangy and sweet. Its fruity flavor is quite intense. I like the Toffee the most. It really surprised me. I didn’t expect that. It’s just brown in color and then when you dip it, Wow, it’s exactly like the taste of Toffee. It really excites the taste buds. But I find Toffee very sweet. You are right, but so delicious. I find it very delicious. Yes, so I would really love that one. The coffee is pretty decent. Nothing extraordinary, though. I’d say the coffee is just okay. As we were about to leave earlier, it was nearing lunchtime. And quite a few people were ordering lunch. There seemed to be a variety of flavors available, and everything smelled so good. Yeah. We were already full though. Yeah, but we just… Actually, it’s mainly to… Avoid that cold, you know? Otherwise, walking on the street like this… It’s still a bit chilly, to be honest. Yeah, I really don’t want to take off my gloves. Seriously, taking them off… Almost feels like they’re about to explode. That hand is super cold. Speaking of Nemuro Hanamaru, the conveyor belt sushi place is always crowded. Let’s try this one. In Sendai, there’s a famous beef tongue dish. What’s that? I don’t know. Let’s give it a try. It’s a cold appetizer. This is braised beef. But it’s served cold. Also ordered a glass of draft beer. I ordered this one. It’s beef sukiyaki. With beef tongue. There’s a set with both thick and thin slices. It’s around 2500 yen. This is a set meal. So, I went with this one. The medium-sized bowl. Three pieces of beef tongue, cut into six slices. Yeah. And mine is this, this, and this. Comes with a dessert as well. The soup is quite fragrant. Feels like a clear beef stew soup. Very chewy. The thin slices are good. Actually, this is quite chewy. But those thin slices earlier were even better, I think. They just melt in your mouth. The thin ones are easy to chew. It’s all about luck, luck. I find it delicious. The first piece I had was also easy to chew. It seems like our last time was about four or five years ago. That’s right. When we ate in Sendai. I think the thickness of this is just right. Try some specialties from other regions while in Sapporo. It’s also a good choice. I’m heading back to Taiwan first. Josh will continue to explore for a few more days. As the journey comes to an end, let me share the return trip. The bus stop is here. Facing Phil’s front. This is the starting station. Later, Phil will take the 5:35 bus heading to New Chitose Airport. Operated jointly by "Chuo Bus" and "Hokuto Kotsu." The timetable is distinguished by red and blue colors. There are a total of 4 counters at New Chitose. From right to left, there’s the self-service ticket machine, self-service baggage check-in machine, manned check-in counter, and finally, the counter for international transfers. After self-service ticketing, I proceeded to the transfer counter to check in my luggage. I ended up waiting for an hour. There were also some lines merging in the middle, forming the queue for manned check-in (Counter 3). But others were for international transfers, and the merged line would cut into your line. It’s best to check in early. Otherwise, the wait can be really long. Another option is to use the nearby machines for check-in first. The ground staff can directly scan your QR code, making the process quick. They can handle your luggage very efficiently. It took me about a minute. I waited for an hour, but I only spent a minute to complete the procedures. Well, here’s a little tip for everyone: Use the machines, and come early. Back at Songshan Airport. That concludes our winter trip to Hokkaido in 2024. See you next time. Bye-bye!
