The story of Noto ended in 1693, when a powerful earthquake struck. It was one of the darkest dates for this part of Europe, as the cataclysm razed as many as 45 cities to the ground. Unfortunately, one of them was Noto.

Looking at this beautiful town, however, you can see that it was the beginning of a new, beautiful history. Due to the destruction, the inhabitants left the city and decided to rebuild it a few kilometers away.

Thanks to this, beautiful, uniform, baroque buildings were created. The town of Noto itself has as many as 32 sacred places (churches, monasteries) and as many as 40 palaces. The streets are narrow and evenly built-up. Due to the fact that the city was built from scratch at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries, it is made entirely in one baroque style.

There is no doubt that it is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. It was also appreciated in 2002, when it was entered on the UNESCO list.

Noto is one of those cities that you don’t have to plan too much. It is enough to be there and devote yourself completely to it. Finding the beautiful architectural pearls of the Baroque is not difficult. In the meantime, you can feel the atmosphere of this town by taking advantage of the gastronomic offer in the climatic, narrow streets. A good time to visit Noto will be the third Sunday in May when the flower festival is held.
