Live Tokyo Walk – Jimbocho to Akihabara

I wonder if we’re finally
live let me
see are we
live I think we are wonderful sorry for
the very late
start uh I changed my mind as I was
about to start a stream and decided to
to head into Central Tokyo instead of
doing a stream in my local area so it
took a while for me to get here but
we’re here yes we’re live thank you
Billman thank you I’ll have a coffee on
you thank you so much so we are
in
jimoo in the middle of Tokyo Imperial
Palace is I think down
there
uh and uh I think let me I’m a little
bit disoriented yes Tokyo dome is over
there uh that’s the the big Tokyo Dome
hotel I think it’s
called and
um I will head towards
Akihabara where I haven’t se in a while
where I’m going to look for something
after this tree and I think aabar might
be this way or maybe not probably not
I’m probably getting
lost but it’s it’s okay it’s okay that’s
getting lost is
fun so yeah long time no see yeah sorry
about that I’ve been really really busy
as yeah for the last month you know it
was the cherry blossom season and then
lots of editing and then I had a bunch
of other work Landing in my lap that was
quite
urgent
uh had a little bit of health issues as
well so haven’t been able to stream for
two weeks I
think U but uh I think I hope knock on
wood I don’t see oh there’s some wood
let’s knock on it um knock on wood I
hope and I think that I’ll be able to
stream uh quite a lot next
week because next week is relatively
quiet and then the big travel job that
I’ve been mentioning is going to take
off in the beginning of next month but I
hope to be able to stream a little bit
while I’m going to all those places as
well so
yeah but it’s good it feels good to
stream again well yeah we’re in Jim Boo
the book town where there’s so many
shop Used Books it’s quite an
interesting area and worth exploring if
you’re coming to
Tokyo especially if you’re a book
collector I guess
yeah I’m I’m not even sure if I’m
heading in the right direction right now
to be
honest in the
[Music]
garden I think I think I’m supposed to
head this way we shall soon find out
she’ll soon find
out but yeah already 100 people tune in
thank you what have you been up to
recently my dear viewers I see a lot of
familiar faces in the chat how have you
been it’s always about me tell me a
little bit about
you anyone who has been to Japan
recently or is planning a trip for about
to come here anytime soon
it’s actually very warm today it’s going
to be 27 Dees it’s currently
23 so it it finally feels like kind of
summer is starting to rear its ugly
head uh it it was such a weird spring
this year with like lots of really cold
days and delayed Sakura and everything
but now it it feels like it has finally
kind of snapped and that we are now in
uh in the
summer or like that summer is is
approaching us I should say I mean this
is this is nothing compared to what the
real summer is here in
Tokyo as I’m sure you all
know but it’s it’s you know it’s it’s
finally short sleeves and if I had a
pair of pink shorts I would wear them
but I don’t so I’m not wearing pink
shorts today but I’m uh I hope to find a
pair soon so that I can be in my good
old classical te
uniform on my upcoming
walks oh yeah there’s major university
and up here is the music instrument town
you have that
[Music]
way so you’ll be going to Sweden again
yes we will be in Sweden in July and
August this year so two months of Refuge
from the hot and humid Focus summer
here yes Joseph that’s right one of our
regular
viewers has sadly passed away Daniel
caran I don’t know the details about
what happened but I was informed the
other day that he has sadly and suddenly
passed away which was very sad I
actually met him in person just after
the borders open again I think he was
one of the first viewers I
met uh after the
pandemic so yeah that’s very
sad this
noi
this see what else are you
saying
yeah
other yeah Daniel it was you who told me
Daniel and you canot Daniel told me
about sad news about another Danel
we’re already in the music instrument
Town here’s a shop specializing in
Drums wonder if there’s like show
special Iz ing in silly instruments like
recorder and what is it called this
thing that you put in your mouth and
then you kind of have this piece of
metal that you touch I don’t know the
English
name I wonder if there a sh specializing
in those kind of instruments as
well or if it’s only like guitars
saxophones and violin and
drums this this building is quite
impressive it’s a university major
university does anyone know
what what the students study here it’s
called Liberty
Tower so
familiar I don’t even know if major
university is a good one or not
Kazo no Kazo is a different one right
that’s not the one I’m thinking about
wait I’ll show you a picture I know the
Swedish name but I don’t know the
English name
this
one wow Joseph sounds like your
apartment block is cursed or
something Jews heart is that what it’s
called doesn’t feel like a politically
correct
[Music]
name anyway yeah I wonder if there’s a
shop specializing in those in this
neighborhood that would be kind of
cool another guitar
shop as well as a little reflection
reveal I think you enjoy that
[Music]
the Hoy do you mean The Who
the Hoy that’s a funny
name I think I will cross the bridge
over here and then visit this nice
little
Temple so that we get a little bit of
greenery in this stream as
well here’s a ukulele and guitar shop of
[Music]
course violin
shop how’s my ebike going oh I haven’t
had time to bike much recently actually
but today would have been a nice day to
go for a bike ride but I I’m I still
have a little bit of work remaining like
so actually this big travel job it
started last like this week so I
actually came back to Tokyo yesterday
from my my first trip which was a little
bit unfortunate because it was raining I
was so basically I’m shooting a bunch of
hotels all over
Japan and I’m spending three days at
each
location and uh the one I shot
now was it was basically raining the
entire time except the last day
yesterday when I was going back
so yeah if the weather would have been a
little bit better I could have done a
stream from there
but it’s not that much fun to stream on
rainy
days uh but yeah so I I did the first
shoot this week so I need to edit and
deliver those photos relatively soon as
well so we got the oano Misa
station but this first shoot was a
little bit more
chill uh because now it’s like 2 weeks
until the next one but then then after
the next one it will be like basically I
will be away for 3 days I will be in
Tokyo for 2 days then go to next hotel
for 3 days back to Tokyo for two days so
may is going to be very busy in that
sense actually started this
week the station over there you can see
a little bit of the green bridge which
is next to Akihabara
this bridge that you’re seeing here the
concrete bridge that’s that’s the one
that has a nice view of the tree train
lines crossing but I feel I’ve being
there I’ve shot that so many times so I
won’t
bother I’m actually curious what they’re
building here like this it feels like
this place has been kind of under
construction for forever
now looks like they’re almost about to
cover this little river or something or
Little River it’s K River it’s a pretty
major river in Tokyo
anyway let see what else they
saying some the wrong
side wrong side of all the foot
traffic why is it so busy now this time
to day like past rush hour but too early
for lunch it’s
another uh this is
Tokyo
medical
Tokyo medical section H or is it no it’s
some it’s not toai it’s some other
school but it’s it’s a
dentist dentist and Medicine section on
reading those Cy
correctly hey
David
see and see Tokyo is pretty green now
Sherry blossom season is
over ended like two weeks
ago
uh now it’s pretty green for a
while which is nice
yeah I’m heading down this
direction I am aabar bound
today next week I’m kind of thinking if
I should try to do another train line
walk I
think I have like one photo shoot next
week but that’s it the rest of the days
I’m relatively free and I don’t think I
will have that much editing to do either
so maybe I should try I’m kind of
tempted to do the Cheo line
again I just keep doing the same train
line walks I did the yot line for the
third time few weeks ago and now I’m
contemplating doing the CH line but I
just like that walk so much
I like how it takes me from the heart of
Tokyo out to the some of the most remote
areas that are still within the city
limits
it’s very nice this time of the
year uh so the
place I’m thinking is actually here I
think I have to go down a little bit
further than turn to LS
oh
[Applause]
chat is very quiet
today come on people talk to me I’m
feeling lonely here
[Music]
so let’s head inside here
yimo
that’s what the temperature it’s 23° now
it’s going to go up to 26
later where are we going we are going to
Akihabara we are going to Akihabara
after passing through here and then
maybe also do a little stop at Kash
Shrine this place is so nice especially
this time of the year when it’s so green
look are these user
fruits not sure did you guys talk about
Golden week yet no no one has mentioned
golden week
yet we have no plans for Golden week as
usual and it’s like the worst time of
the year to travel around Japan because
everything is very expensive and crowded
at least any place even
remotely popular
so we don’t really have any plans yet
I’m not sure if we’re going to if we’re
going to do anything of course mini
explorers daycare will be closed for a
couple of
days
so we should do something nice together
go on a little family trip somewhere but
I don’t know we’ll try maybe we will try
to find like some
very like some place that’s not popular
at all where we can spend spend a couple
of days so I actually went to Chiba this
week for the photo shoot and uh that
made me realize that actually Chiba is
super underrated like it’s this huge
prefecture next to Tokyo and it has lots
of beautiful
nature and
uh yeah it’s just so kind of I don’t
feel that anyone ever goes there but I’m
sure it feels like a place that that
should have lots of hidden
gems so maybe we could find something
nice
there last weekend we went to kaag gucho
again this beautiful Lake next to Mount
Fuji where we were considering to get
our own little summer house I’m still
tempted to do that but not sure if we
can find something good
because my wife had a photo shoot
there and it was really nice because
cherry blossom season is over here in
Tokyo but last weekend it was actually
really good up there since it’s a little
bit elevated up in the mountain so the
temperature is a little bit cooler ter
Blossom SE season starts a little bit
later so it was a really
nice really nice uh little family trip
only one night actually which is almost
too short
she’s yeah I’ve been helping out Chiba a
little bit with their marketing but I
guess the problem for Chiba is that it’s
it doesn’t have that good infrastructure
I mean there’s like
the interesting the part of chba that
I’m interested in is basically the boso
peninsula it’s called which
is let me
see let me
see so yeah Tokyo is here on the left
here’s cha
right this this area is what I’m curious
to explore a little bit more but there’s
not that many train lines is going there
you basically need a
car uh the hotel I shot was down here
look like a 2hour bus ride from Tokyo
Station um there’s one train line that
kind of goes around the
coast uh but that’s about
it and then there’s a few other train
lines serving the more like northern
northern parts of CHA
prefecture but yeah it feels like the
place kind of place that you need a car
to be able to enjoy the
fullest flow Temple
beautiful beautiful beautiful
anyway let’s head down here and head to
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
aabar here the entrance to K Shrine you
guys want me to go there you want to see
K shrine
let me see what the chat is
saying we’re going to sh on the shrine I
think I should head back and cross the
street
yeah why not let’s do that let’s do that
it’s a nice try after
all George is in the house welcome
George yeah what’s what’s the name over
our host Mr
Explorer Mr explorer that goas
miss you so much thank you
faran thank you thank
you you I missed hanging out with my
viewers so much as well however for some
reason all my viewers are very very
quiet
today and over almost 200 people are
watching now
there we go come ginja come the
shrine Lucy is happy that te is back
again yeah thank you thank
you I’m happy to be able to have time
for this it’s the cherry blossom season
and the weeks surrounding it was really
really busy this year which is good good
for me for my
wallet
but quite tiring quite exhausting
actually and because the blooming was so
late so a lot of people wanted to kind
of change their
bookings to shoot at a different day
because there weren’t any enough Flowers
In Bloom and Y yada which I totally
understand of course but it’s it causes
a lot of stress
and challenges for me trying to juggle
everything and trying to make everybody
happy
they have some little horse here Little
[Music]
Pony is it here yeah it looks like it’s
here
looks pretty
tired maybe avoiding the Heat
it did look a bit sad
this building is really
beautiful hot Japan not so hot it’s only
23° it’s going to get way hotter than
this in two months I think about two
months that’s when the hot season really
starts we have the rainy season to look
forward to before that
but then after rainy season that’s
usually when when the when the heat gets
cranked up to
11 but that’s when me and my family
escaped this country for a couple months
because it’s just not possible to do
anything outside
okay next up
aab these are from steep
stairs toosaka Hill
ofin means
man these are the manly stairs
go to Hokkaido yeah Hokkaido is also
decent place to escape to during the hot
summer but Sweden I think it’s even
nicer I actually like we we’ve been to
Hokkaido a couple of times in the summer
and sometimes it can get really really
hot in Hokkaido too
so but then again Sweden can also be
pretty hot in the summer so
love live stairs oh
yeah I don’t love live so but I know
that this place is love life is a game
or an anime or
both it it started out as a music game
didn’t
it now
I think I want to go down here and then
cross and go to the
left still quite early well 5 minutes to
11: most shops in akaba are open at 11:
actually
yeah I know that many of you are very
interested in anime unfortunately my my
interest in anime ended about 20 years
ago so when I was a teenager I was I was
into it for a couple of years but since
then not so much
question I’ve heard people in general in
Japan are people in general oh sorry are
people in Japan generally rude towards
people of colors or
foreigners I don’t think so I
don’t
I don’t I mean I can only talk from from
the perspective of a of a white Western
male but I one of the reasons why I
enjoy living here so much is because
people are generally so nice and uh I
feel that where every every time I go
back to Europe I feel that people are
really
R
so but I’m not sure maybe it’s very
different if you’re if you’re black for
example then then I can imagine that
your experience here is quite different
and also maybe if you’re from other
Asian countries maybe you will uh be
treated in a different manner
I think people here can be a little bit
insecure when they when they can’t
communicate with people so if you can’t
speak
Japanese then maybe you will sometimes
feel that people are a little bit rude
but that’s usually just because they’re
insecure which is I know it’s a kind of
dumb way to treat to deal with your
insecurity but I think it’s quite human
I think many of us do
that been yelled at so often
really what have you done to be yelled
at I don’t think I’ve ever been yelled
at here in Japan and I’ve lived here for
over 15
years that’s
definitely not something I
would say is is uh
normal but I mean I also think it’s
important to learn the
basics of the manners here and
behave
properly and I do see a lot of tourists
who don’t bother doing that and that can
cause some friction of
course any plans to have a Countryside
stream yeah hopefully during this uh
travel project next month I hope it will
mostly be in Countryside locations so I
hope I’ll be able to do some streams
from Countryside
[Music]
got that we
let’s see
should where should I
go I’ll head down here and then I do a
little circle around the main street
here in Akihabara and then I wrap things
up once I get back to Akihabara station
the name change huh GLE I feel that it’s
kind of OD that well I don’t like
it Sega was an important brand during my
childhood and
yeah growing up so I feel a bit sad that
it’s far less common to see on the
streets of Tokyo now
[Music]
so many Nursery School kids out and
about today seems like it’s sort of
weird to see a group of preschool kids
walking the streets of pakar but of
course I mean a lot of people live
around here and their kids go to the
local Nursery as well not too strange I
guess
sound of Japanese pedestrian lights it
is a pretty nostalgic sound very typical
to Japan I don’t know are there any
other country in the world that has that
sound for traffic lights in Sweden we
just have this like
annoying
clicking why are there so many abandoned
villages in
Tokyo are there many abandoned villages
in Tokyo I didn’t know that in other
parts of Japan maybe but in Tokyo well
in the Far West up in the mountainous
regions maybe there are some abandoned
Villages well the problem is just that
there’s not enough children being being
born and so when one
generation passes away then there’s no
one else to who can take over their
house their
assets that’s that’s the thing the
population of Japan is decreasing with
almost a million people people every
year now due to the low birth rate
so
basically all those people’s
homes will be abandoned
just about 200 viewers nice welcome
everybody Welcome to uh to this Friday
morning in akava
ch
let’s do a little map check can we
[Music]
see uh we started somewhere around here
and then I walked
through
timoo probably crossed where’s J oh CH
so I crossed
here and then went through
this is this K Shrine or this is K this
is K Shrine I think went through here
back down now we’re here
[Music]
oh they’re building a new fancy Glass
Tower I often feel that Tokyo keeps
growing like on the heights like
whenever they te tear down a building
they’re always just building something
new and higher at its place
and they’re tearing down buildings all
the time everywhere all over the
place if this trend doesn’t end I think
at some point we will have a Tokyo where
there is never any sunlight hitting the
streets that would be very sad
it’s just so many
tourists and especially like I think one
big
change that has happened here in Tokyo
since the pandemic is like now we see so
many tour groups even in like places
like Akihabara like we didn’t have tour
groups in Akihabara before at least
that’s that’s not something I was used
to seeing but today
like these days
yeah they’re they’re
everywhere same like is Shinjuku like if
you pass through golden guy or mooo
there’s like big
groups of tourists with a tour leader
and a silly flag and you know that kind
of
tourists fore
[Music]
[Music]
way we’re
approaching akabar station
where I will say goodbye to
you in a nice hour long walk
almost from gimo to
Akihabara I hope you enjoyed it um and
yeah I hope
to do some like Suburban walks again
soon cuz I actually enjoy those much
more I really as I’m getting older I
really feel that I’m
disliking Central Tokyo and all the
crowded places more and
more really yeah being in places like
this make me feel quite stressed these
days I didn’t mind at all when I was
younger but these days I much rather
prefer the quiet suburbs with parks and
Greenery and far less people and where
everything is like where life is passing
at a much slower pace
[Music]
[Music]
yeah that’ll be it for
today thank you everybody for
watching and
uh I’ll see you all soon again okay oh
thank you Brad thank you thank you
bye-bye thank you and see you next time

  1. Nice and enjoyable stream even though i missed it a bit 😎Thank you anyway T E🙂👍!!!

  2. Glad you’re healthier and less busy so that you can return to “normal service” – the walks that we enjoy so much. Many thanks 🙏🏻

  3. Long time no see TE ! On my way from Kawagoe to Shimbashi, I took a break at Iidabashi this morning. Then I drove through Kudanshita crossing which is 600 m west of Jimbocho crossing at 8 AM. Nearly there !

  4. General comment, finally getting to watch this stream, some 8 hours after it was live: CLICK THE LIKE BUTTON!

02:57 On a trip to Japan, Jiimbocho would be as big a hazard to my purse, as would vinyl record shops.

I've been watching anime since I was a toddler in the mid 1960s, TE. Back then all the original black and white Tezuka anime series that were in syndication were fun viewing.
To me, they were just more cartoons to watch.
