Description of Amakusa Five Bridge.
Amakusa Five Bridge, which connects mainland Kyushu and the Amakusa Islands with five bridges, opened in September 1966.
Starting from Bridge No. 1, the bridges are named Tenmon Bridge, Oyano Bridge, Nakano Bridge, Maejima Bridge, and Matsushima Bridge, but locally they are simply called Number(1-5) Bridge.
It’s been about 60 years since it opened, and more and more people don’t know that there was a fee to cross it back then, but now you can cross it for free.
National Route 266, which connects with Five Bridge, is affectionately known as the Amakusa Pearl Line, named after the area where pearl cultivation is popular.
It is also part of Unzen Amakusa National Park, and is a scenic spot with calm waves and many large and small islands floating in front of you.
This time, I would like to focus on the Amakusa Five Bridge, which is used when crossing to Amakusa Kami Island and Shimo Island, and introduce the surrounding scenery starting from Bridge No. 1.

First, please take a look at Bridge No. 1 (Tenmon Bridge).
The left side of the bridge is Uto Peninsula, and the right side is Oyano Island of the Amakusa Islands.
The bridge in the foreground is Tenjo Bridge, which just opened in May 2018.
These bridges were built at high points where large ships could navigate.
It is said to be about 42m above sea level.

Bridge No. 2 is a cream colored bridge that connects Oyano Island and Nagaura Island.
It is the smallest bridge among the five bridges.
