兵庫県南あわじ市の南に浮かぶ大園（おおぞの）島。遠くに徳島と淡路島を結ぶ大鳴門橋が見えます。源平合戦で敗れた平家が天皇を四国の屋島に送る際、鳴門海峡の潮の流れが複雑で激しいため、この島で潮流が穏やかになるのを待ったことから、「潮待ちの島」と呼ばれています。陸地に向かう道が尻尾のように伸びていますが、今は陸地とつながらないようです。
