【城めぐり】八王子合戦の舞台となった 八王子城要害地区 東京都【攻略ルート】
I’m at the Hachioji Castle Ruins Guidance Facility. This time, we will start from here and visit the Hachio Castle stronghold area, one of Japan’s 100 famous castles. Let’s check the route on the map. This is the current location of the Hachioji Castle ruins guidance facility.
And our destination is the ruins of main enclosure of Hachioji Castle. You will arrive after climbing the mountain road for about 40 minutes. This is the route so far. The start is Takao Station. Take the bus that leaves from the station and get off at the “Reienmae Hachioji Castle Ruins Entrance” bus stop.
From there, you will arrive at the guidance facility in about 20 minutes on foot. Let’s take a look at the guide map. The place I just walked to is the Negoya district, the castle town area. Beyond that is the residence area, the political center where the main hall was located.
And this time, we are heading to a fortified area, which is a battle base where we can fight back when the enemy engages us. Negoya district and living room district were visited in December 2020, so I will omit them this time. Let’s go straight away.
The Hojo family crest, Mitsuuroko, is designed on the slope of the earthwork. A monument to the ruins of Hachioji Castle stands, leading to the main enclosure. The building on the left is the administration building. The road to the main enclosure is mostly a trecking course, so a certain amount of equipment is required.
Hachioji Castle was built around 1580 by Hojo Ujiteru. Ujiteru was originally based at Takiyama Castle, but In 1587 he felt the limits of his defense during the battle with the Takeda army, and moved his base to Hachioji Castle.
In 1590, Toyo Hideyoshi began the invasion of Odawara, and a battle was also fought at Hachioji Castle. Attacked by 15,000 troops from Uesugi and Maeda, Hachioji Castle fell in half a day, and was later abandoned by Tokugawa Ieyasu.
The road splits into the new road and the old road, but first head towards Kanekomaru from the new road. The stone wall soon came into view. Climb up a fairly steep slope. It’s the remains of a drainage ditch. We arrived at Kanekomaru.
The road in the back is towards the Honmaru, but once you return to the fork, head towards the Honmaru from the old road. It’s in a quiet mountain that doesn’t seem like Tokyo. We went up the old road. We’ll climb a little more.
Ruins of Sakumon ,This is the junction of the new road and the old road. The main enclosure is above this. It says 80%point. “A slip and fall accident occurred here.” Scary, scary 90% point It looks like a enclosure called Takamaru. My vision suddenly opened up.
You can enjoy a panoramic view of the Kanto Plain from a high position. This is fantastic! I thought we were finally in the main enclosure, but it was still the Nakanokuruwa. It says “top”… Although there is a rest facility, it looks quite dilapidated. Hachioji Shrine is behind the stone steps.
Hachioji Shrine is the origin of the name of Hachioji Castle. It was named Hachioji Castle because Hachioji Gongen is enshrined here. To get to the main enclosure, go up the narrow path next to the shrine building. The shrine and the Honmaru ruins monument.
Hachioji Castle was a strong castle, but in the end, a battle is a game of numbers, so even if the defense facilities were excellent, if the difference in military strength was large, it would not be possible to win. Toyotomi’s army numbered 15,000, while Hojo’s army numbered several thousand.
Moreover, these included non-combatant citizens, women and women. The lord of the castle, Ujiteru, moved to Odawara, leaving only the military commanders he left behind. Due to the powerful attack of Uesugi and Maeda’s army, the castle soldiers were defeated and the castle was taken.
The castle soldiers and women, who had no place to escape, committed suicide and threw themselves into the waterfall. It is said that for three days, the main shrine waterfall and Shiroyama River were dyed red with his blood. Next, move on to Matsuki Kuruwa. This is the remains of the stone wall of Koshikuruwa.
This is Matsuki Kuruwa. The view from here is also wonderful. There is Tsume Castle further back, but we have to walk another 1km or more, and the sun is already setting, so we will end our day here and head home. Yes, thank you for your hard work.
Finally, we will go to see the Goshuden Falls. For some reason I couldn’t find it last time, but this time I was able to take a picture of it without any problems. I was so scared that this water was stained red with blood that I moved to the south exit of Hachioji Station.
Castle seals are on sale at the Hachioji Museum on the 3rd floor of Saza Sky Tower Hachioji. There is also the castle seal of Takiyama Castle. I didn’t go to Takiyama Castle this time, but since I had already visited it, I bought it as well. So that’s all for this video.
Thank you for watching until the end. See you again in another city. Please subscribe to the channel, Like, and Super Thanks!
