It is a typical representative of the South China Water Village Wuzhen is famous for its well-preserved ancient buildings, stone bridges, waterways and profound cultural heritage. The town is divided into two areas, Dongzha(東柵) and Xizha(西柵). Xizha is particularly popular with tourists because it retains more of the traditional way of life and handicrafts.

It also serves as a venue for the Wuzhen Theatre Festival, an international event that attracts theatre companies and performers from around the world, further adding to its cultural richness.
