【阿波踊り2024】外務省で阿波おどり！SDGs先進県徳島を世界に発信するレセプション
Hello! This time, I’m bringing you the video from a different location than usual. That place is the Iikura Annex of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, located next to Azabudai Hills.
I attended the reception co-hosted by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Governor of Tokushima Prefecture, titled “SDGs Advanced Prefecture Tokushima Promotion to the World.” The venue was packed, with approximately 230 attendees including ambassadors to Japan from various countries.
At this reception, which aimed to promote the charms of Tokushima, they served Tokushima’s local sake and sudachi, a specialty of Tokushima Prefecture. They also offered “Kizu yuzu,” produced in the Kizu district of Nahari, Tokushima Prefecture. There was also “Naruto tai,” a branded sea bream raised in the turbulent currents of the Naruto Strait.
And, of course, the finely marbled, melt-in-your-mouth Tokushima brand beef, “Awa beef.” Participants were treated to dishes from around the world made with Tokushima ingredients such as Awa Odori chicken and conger eel. There was also a corner dedicated to showcasing Tokushima’s culture, including Awa Ningyo Joruri puppet theater
And exhibits introducing the “Big Hina Festival” held in Katsuura City, Tokushima Prefecture. And then, there was the Awaodori dance performance on stage! When I saw “stage performance” on the invitation email program for this reception, I thought, “We can see Awaodori at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs!?” My excitement soared.
So, I decided to attend. In a venue filled with ambassadors to Japan from various countries and officials from Tokushima’s public and private sectors, I, in my suit, enthusiastically captured the foolishness of Awaodori. (MC) Kent Mori has served as Madonna’s exclusive backing dancer in the past (MC) And has also passed auditions to become a dancer for Michael Jackson’s world tour “THIS IS IT,” among other collaborations with top artists worldwide.
(MC) Last month, he appeared as Usher’s main dancer during the NFL Super Bowl halftime show held in Las Vegas, USA. This time, I had the opportunity to see Awaodori in a place I probably won’t be able to visit again. To all the officials who invited me, thank you for this valuable opportunity.

徳島の魅力を世界に発信する外務省と徳島県の取り組みで、各国の駐日大使や徳島の企業・団体が参加する盛大なレセプションでした。会場では徳島の食・文化・産業が展示ブースで紹介されていました。徳島県上勝町のゼロ・ウェイストの取り組みなどSDGsに対する取り組みも多数紹介されていました。

阿波おどりは、430年以上の歴史を持つ日本で最も有名な伝統芸能の一つです。阿波おどりの「阿波」は徳島県の旧藩政時代の「阿波国」から来ています。徳島市で開催される阿波おどりは、毎年8月12日から15日まで開催され、130万人以上の観光客で街が熱狂の渦に包まれます。
On March 13, 2024, I had the honor of being invited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Iikura Guest House, located next to Azabudai Hills, for the jointly hosted reception by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Governor of Tokushima Prefecture, “Reception to Showcase Tokushima, an SDGs Advanced Prefecture, to the World,” where I captured footage of Awa Odori.
This event, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tokushima Prefecture to promote the charm of Tokushima to the world, was a grand reception attended by ambassadors from various countries as well as companies and organizations from Tokushima. At the venue, Tokushima’s food, culture, and industries were showcased in exhibition booths. There were also numerous presentations on initiatives related to SDGs, such as the zero-waste efforts in Kamikatsu Town, Tokushima Prefecture.
Awaodori (Awa Dance) is one of the most famous traditional performing arts in Japan, with its history of more than 430 years. “Awa” is the old feudal administration name for Tokushima Prefecture, and “odori” means “dance”. Awaodori Festival in Tokushima City is held from August 12 to 15, attracting over 1.3 million tourists every year.
