Nagabeta Sea bed Road Sumiyoshi Town, Uto City Sumiyoshi Coast Park Description of Nagabeta Sea bed Road. There are several underwater roads in Kumamoto Prefecture. Even though it is called an underwater road, it is not meant to cross the ocean.

This road appears only when the tide is low, and was built for fishermen who farm seaweed and collect shellfish in the Ariake Sea, where the tidal range is large. Nagabeta Sea bed Road was built in 1979.

The submarine road has a total length of about 1 km and is lined with 24 utility poles. At high tide, the road sinks into the sea, creating a mysterious landscape where only telephone poles stand in the sea.

When it gets dark, the street lights are lit up, making it even more magical and mysterious. On the other side of the Ariake Sea, on the extension of Sea bed Road, is Mt. Unzen and Fugendake, Nagasaki Prefecture, which is also famous as a beautiful sunset spot.

It is also a popular photo spot as it is reminiscent of the shallow railroad tracks that appear in Studio Ghibli’s “Spirited Away”. Let’s take off! This is “Nagabeta Sea bed Road” in Uto City. This is an introduction to the underwater road that only appears when the tide is low.

Now let’s go to the tip of the seabed road. We arrived at the tip, and it seems like this area is still underwater. Nagasaki Prefecture Mt.
