The train names are based on the seven prefectures of Kyushu (Fukuoka, Saga, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Oita, Miyazaki, and Kagoshima) and the seven main tourist attractions of Kyushu (nature, food, hot springs, history, culture, power spots, humanity) and a 7-car passenger car.

JR Kyushu considers this vehicle to be an “adult space,” so tour participants are limited to junior high school students and above. The dress code in the common areas of the vehicle is “smart casual” and jeans and sandals are prohibited. Smoking is completely prohibited inside the train, and there are no TVs in the private sleeper rooms.

As of spring 2017, the number of applicants is approximately 22 times, and the number of repeat customers is 5 times, making it famous as a difficult train to book.

Seven Stars in Kyushu received the Brunel Prize in 2014 and the Prime Minister’s Award at the 1st Japan Service Awards in 2016. In 2021, it won first place in the train category of the “Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2021” conducted by the American travel magazine “Condé Nast Traveler”. It also took first place in 2022 and 2023, making it the third consecutive year it has won the world’s best award.

As it enters its 10th year in 2022, some parts will be renewed. Cars 2, 3, 4, and 6 have been renovated, with the number of rooms reduced by 2 in car 3, and 1 room each in cars 4 and 6, from 14 to 10, and the capacity to accommodate 20 to 28 people.

ななつ星 in 九州は日本の会社・JR九州が運行する周遊型臨時寝台列車（クルーズトレイン）です。

ななつ星 in 九州は2013年10月15日に運行を開始、九州各地を巡り、自然・食・温泉・歴史等を楽しむことを目的としています。

列車名は、九州の7つの県（福岡県・佐賀県・長崎県・熊本県・大分県・宮崎県・鹿児島県）と、九州の主な7つの観光素材（自然・食・温泉・歴史文化・パワースポット・人情・列車)、さらに7両編成の客車を表現したものとなっています。

JR九州では本車両を「大人の空間」と位置づけているため、ツアー参加者は中学生以上に限定されています。車内の共用スペースでのドレスコードは「スマートカジュアル」と定められ、ジーンズやサンダルは禁止です。車内は全面禁煙で、寝台個室にテレビは設置されていません。

2017年春時点で申し込み倍率は約22倍、最多リピーターは5回、予約困難な列車として有名です。

2014年にブルネル賞、2016年に第1回日本サービス大賞内閣総理大臣賞を受賞。2021年にはアメリカの旅行誌「コンデナスト・トラベラー」が実施した「コンデナスト・トラベラー リーダーズ・チョイス・アワード 2021」のトレイン部門第1位を獲得。2022年と2023年にも1位となり、3年連続の世界一受賞となっています。

2022年で10年目を迎えるにあたり、一部がリニューアル。2・3・4・6号車がリニューアルされ、部屋数は3号車が2室減、4号車と6号車が各1室減、これまでの14室から10室となり、定員は28名から20名となりました。
