Cherry blossoms at Takashima Castle, Nagano, Japan [ 4K ]

Takashima Castle ( Nagano Prefecture ) Takashima Castle is located near the shore of Lake Suwa. It has been selected as one of the “200 Great Castles of Japan” and is also one of the “Three Great Lake Castles of Japan.

Originally a water castle jutting out into Lake Suwa, it was called “Suwa no Ukishiro” (Suwa floating castle). However, during the Edo period (1603-1867), the lake was reclaimed and the castle was moved away from the shore of the lake.

Visitors cross the Kabukibashi Bridge over the moat and enter the castle through the Kabukimon Gate. Takashima Castle was built by Takayoshi Hineno, a vassal of Hideyoshi Toyotomi. The Suwa clan entered the castle in the early Edo period (1603-1867), and it remained their residence until the Meiji Restoration.

After the Meiji Restoration, the castle tower and most of the other structures were destroyed. In 1970, the castle tower, turrets, and gates were restored in the main circle. The castle is now known as “Takashima Park” and is one of the best cherry blossom viewing spots in the Suwa area.

Takashima Castle was the residence of the Suwa family, who served as priests of Suwa-taisha Shrine for generations. The castle tower has a shape and color not seen in other castles. It has been selected as one of the “100 Sunset Points in Shinshu”. In spring, a cherry blossom tour around Lake Suwa is recommended! http://www.healing-japan.tv/ Thank you for watching. Please subscribe to our channel.

■ Suwa Takashima Castle
Takashima Castle is located near the shore of Lake Suwa. It is one of the “100 Great Castles of Japan” and one of the “Three Great Lake Castles of Japan”. Originally a water castle jutting out into Lake Suwa, it was called “Suwa no Ukishiro” (Suwa floating castle), but during the Edo period (1603-1868), the lake was reclaimed and the location was moved away from the lake shore.

The castle was built by Takayoshi Hineno, a vassal of Hideyoshi Toyotomi, but the Suwa clan took over the castle in the early Edo period, and it remained their residence until the Meiji Restoration (1868) . After the Meiji Restoration, the castle tower and most of the other structures were destroyed, but in 1970, the castle tower, turrets, and gates were restored in the main circle, and the area is now known as “Takashima Park” and is one of the best cherry blossom viewing spots in the Suwa area.

The castle was the residence of the Suwa family, who served as priests of the Suwa-taisha shrine for generations, and perhaps due to this influence, the castle tower has a shape and coloring not seen in other castles. There is also a garden with a pond in the castle, where visitors can enjoy a stroll. In addition to the castle tower, the gate and turrets have been restored, and the Kabukibashi Bridge spanning the moat on the north side and its perimeter are representative viewpoints of Takashima Castle.

■Tateishi Park
Tateishi Park is located on high ground (934m above sea level) on the east side of Suwa Lake, and offers a panoramic view of Suwa Lake and the city of Suwa. The peaks of the Northern and Central Alps can be seen over Suwa Lake, and Takashima Castle in Suwa City can also be seen in the distance.
