【神社仏閣ひとり旅】東京都(中野区・新宿区・杉並区・台東区)御朱印4選[御朱印500名印(No.223~226)]
This is Masaharu Goshuin Travel. In December, I couldn’t take a day off on weekdays, so I went to worship on a Saturday for the first time in a while. I visited quite a few shrines and temples in Tokyo, and I received four Goshuin stamps that I hadn’t introduced yet.
This is Masaharu Goshuin Travel. First, start from Numabukuro Station on the Seibu Shinjuku Line. I went to Numabukuro Hikawa Shrine for the first time, which is a short walk from the station. The Otorii gate was located right in front of the Seibu Shinjuku Line tracks. Please bow in front of the torii gate.
When you go up the stone steps, there is another torii gate. There is a pair of guardian dogs in front of the torii gate. Especially the unusual shape of the guardian dog on the right cradling a child.
It is said that if you stroke the baby three times, the birth will be easier and the child-rearing will go smoothly. Next, there was a chozuya on the right before the worship hall. I’ll stop by. Before worshiping at the shrine, stop by the chozuya and purify yourself.
The current shrine building was built in 1991. The deity enshrined is “Susanoo no Mikoto”. In front of the shrine, we joined hands to express our gratitude and pray for world peace and for fewer disasters. Next, go to the left of the worship hall and go to the back near the “main shrine”.
The “honden” is the building where the god is actually enshrined. On the left side of the shrine building, there are sacred trees and several shrines. The sacred tree “Three Wishing Pine”. The cedar leaves bad things behind, and the pine tree makes wishes come true.
Tennosha, the god of healing from illness. It enshrines Uzu Tenno. Inari Shrine is a well-known shrine dedicated to the god of bountiful harvests and prosperous business. Mitake Shrine is a shrine that protects against fire and theft. At the far left of the approach is the Kagura Hall. “Kaguraden” was renovated in 2018.
There was a space next to the Kagura Hall where you could take a break. A photo of the cute large ema and Keyakizaka46 (now Sakurazaka46), which I visited before! In front of the worship hall is the “Dokan Sugi Ruins”. The remains of a cedar tree planted by Dokan Ota in 1477.
There is also an interesting space on the left side of the approach. Japanese umbrellas were displayed and it became a photo spot. “Chikaraishi”. This stone was used by young people in ancient times to compete in strength. The Nakano Seven Lucky Gods are dedicated to the back left of the approach.
It was dedicated in 2009. It is rare to see all the Seven Lucky Gods in one place. “Bishamonten”, “Benzaiten”, “Daikokuten”, and “Ebisu God”. It is lined up with “Hotei-son”, “Fukurokuju”, and “Jurojin”. And this is the December limited goshuin that I received on the day.
The shrine’s official Instagram provides the latest information on the stamps. Next, we went to a handmade sweets shop near Numabukuro Hikawa Shrine. It seems like it’s located at the north exit of Numabukuro Station, so I’ll go there. I came down a fairly narrow road. I’m a little worried.
If you turn here, you should see it… There it is. When you enter the store, it looks like Don Quijote, which sells handmade sweets. The first thing you’ll want to try in the store, which has a lot of sweets, is the popular “King Potato.”
These are sweet potatoes made with Beni Azuma from the owner’s hometown of Kagoshima. We also have “Numa Chocolate” made with cocoa sponge, chocolate, and almond cream! We have customers all the time, regardless of age. It was a restaurant loved by the locals.
Zuikoji Temple is right next to the west exit of Ushigome Yanagimachi Station. Zuikoji Temple was founded in 1595 during the Azuchi-Momoyama period. During the Edo period, it was called “Ekoji Temple,” but in the Meiji period, it seems to have changed to its current name “Zuikoji Temple.”
The precincts are small, but there is a Sanmon gate. I apologize for the inconvenience. The main hall has a long history, having been renovated during the Taisho era. “Renshozan” is the mountain name for “Zuikoji Temple”. In front of the main hall, we joined hands and expressed our gratitude.
When you think of “Zuikoji Temple,” you think of this big splendid pine tree. Also, since it is a Nichiren sect, there is a daimoku stone. This is “Myosa Inari Sonten”. Inari is enshrined in the precincts. This is also a theme stone. It says “Namu-myoho-renge-kyo.”
When I looked up, I saw a small Jizo statue smiling. Also, this place was decorated with Onigawara tiles. And this is the title of the dragon papercut that I received that day. The temple’s official Instagram provides the latest information on goshuin stamps.
Now, after visiting Zuikoji Temple, I headed to a coffee shop a little further away. there was. Arrived at Aung Coffee Myanmar Coffee Lab. for a moment. I really thought it was a cafe, but the second floor was actually a cafe.
You order the menu on the 1st floor and go up to the 2nd floor. This time, I ordered coffee and Basque cheesecake. The number of seats is about 10. It’s small. The menu we ordered was brought to the second floor.
Plenty of coffee. It was a Saturday morning so I had a relaxing time. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal. Next, start from the north exit of Eifukucho Station on the Keio Inokashira Line.
Enter the street that looks like a shopping street in front of the north exit station and immediately go to the narrow street diagonally to the left. Go all the way north up the narrow road in the residential area. Then, I came to the Omiya Hachimangu signal on Honan Street.
Cross the traffic light and continue ahead, and you will see the shrine on your left. A large red torii gate. We have arrived. “First Torii”. It was rebuilt in 1954. The precincts cover an area of 15,000 tsubo, and the approach from here to the shrine is about 250 meters.
After bowing in front of the “First Torii”, you will immediately arrive at the “Second Torii”. Bow once before the second torii gate and proceed. Rhododendrons are planted on both sides of Omotesando, and May is the best time to see them. At the end of the long approach, the “Shinmon” gate came into view.
There is a “Chozuya” on the right, so stop by. Before joining hands in front of the shrine, we wash our hands with water. On both sides of the “Shinmon” gate, there are large votive tablets depicting the year’s zodiac signs. Reiwa 6 is a dragon.
Since it was at the end of the year, a “moss ring” was prepared in front of the “Shinmon” gate. Now, after bowing once in front of the “Shinmon” gate, the “Haden of Worship” came into view. First, say hello to the guardian dog and head to the worship hall.
The current shrine building of Omiya Hachimangu Shrine was completed in 1965. In front of the shrine, we joined hands to express our gratitude and pray for world peace and for fewer disasters. Next, take a walk inside the shrine grounds to the left of the shrine.
First, let’s take a look at the “main shrine” where the god is actually enshrined at the back of the shrine. The deity enshrined at Omiya Hachimangu Shrine is Emperor Ojin. It also enshrines Emperor Ojin’s father, Emperor Chuai, and his mother, Empress Jingu.
Next to the main shrine is the Wakamiya Hachiman Shrine. The enshrined deity is “Emperor Nintoku.” In front of it is a stone guardian dog dedicated in 1771. It was originally located in front of the main shrine, but was moved to its current location in 1965.
Next to it is Omiya Inari Shrine. Takekoma Shrine in Miyagi Prefecture is also enshrined there. The shrine is lined with red torii gates, and the Hatsuuma Festival is held every year on Hatsuuma (the first day of the morning in February).
Sacred tree “Tree of Symbiosis”. It seems that the dog cherry tree is parasitic on the Kaya tree. It is said that the different trees are tied together, suggesting symbiosis. The remains of a hand-planted pine tree by Minamoto no Yoshiie. Omiya Hachimangu Shrine was founded by Minamoto no Yoshiie.
“Mikoshi warehouse”. There are 32 portable shrines here. Now, when you return to the front of the shrine, you will see a “bodhi tree” on your left. It flowers in mid-June. Next, I walked around the grounds to the right of the shrine.
“Omiya Tenmangu”. The deity enshrined here is Michizane Sugawara, the god of passing exams. I would like to go further to the north side of the precincts, at the back of the right-hand side of the shrine. This is “Kaguraden”. The plaque is nice.
Next to the right is “Hitotobatago”. It is also called “Nanja Monja”. Furthermore, when you get to the front of the “Hokushinmon” gate, you will see gamecocks kept there. In front of it is “Chikaraishi”. Apparently it was used during the Meiji and Taisho eras.
“Akamon (Kitashinmon)” is the original main gate and is thought to be a building from before the mid-Edo period. Beyond the “Akamon” is “Hachimanbashi” with its red railing. When you return to the front of the “Shinmon” gate, a pair of large ginkgo trees stand out.
The “male ginkgo” and “female ginkgo” are called husband and wife ginkgo. “Shinmon” is on the left. In front of the entrance to Seiryoden is the “Happiness Frog”. A large rock that resembles a frog. I stroke it with a wish. It is said that your wish will come true.
Since we were here, we decided to have tea at the tea lounge inside Seiryoden. I decided to relax for a while at a seat overlooking the shrine. I ordered a set of the famous Heso Fukumochi and Sencha tea. Omiya Hachimangu Shrine was named because it is located in the center of Tokyo.
There were also souvenir assortments on sale for families. It said it was made by Kameya Mannendo. After enjoying tea, when I returned to the side of the water bath, I found “Tama Shimizusha”.
Divine water is gushing out from the god of water. We also award the “Tama no Omiya water” that we prayed for. Now, here is the Goshuin seal that I received that day. This is a simple type of Goshuin stamp with a red stamp stamped in the center.
Next up was Ginkgo Oka Hachiman Shrine near Asakusabashi Station. Exit the east exit of JR Asakusabashi Station and turn left. Then immediately turn left down a narrow road. Then, a torii gate appeared in front of me. We have arrived. Lord Minamoto no Yoshiie rested here before heading out to conquer Oshu.
We placed a branch of a ginkgo tree that had flowed down from Nakagawa-kami on the hill and prayed before setting off. When Oshu returned after the subjugation of Oshu, the ginkgo trees at that time flourished. It all began when Lord Yoshiie offered a sword and prayed for Hachimangu Shrine.
It is said to have taken place in the fifth year of the Kohei era (1062). Before joining hands at such a historic shrine, purify yourself. I visited at the end of December. The best time to see the ginkgo leaves has passed. Still, it was wonderful to be able to feel the autumn atmosphere.
By the way, the ginkgo tree was destroyed in the great fire of Edo in 1806. Now, in front of the shrine, we joined hands to express our gratitude and pray for world peace and for fewer disasters.
Next, let’s take a look at the “main shrine” in the back from the right side of the worship hall. The “honden” is the building where the god is actually enshrined. Even near the main shrine, we gently put our hands together.
On the right side of the worship hall is Konoha Inari Shrine, which is marked by a red torii gate and fence. There was a votive tablet on it, and it has a cute ginkgo design. Now, here is the Goshuin seal that I received that day. The ginkgo leaf stamp is cute.
