Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium is located near Bisezaki on Motobu Peninsula in the northwestern part of Okinawa Island. It is located near Bisezaki on Motobu Peninsula in the northwestern part of Okinawa’s main island. Churaumi means “clear sea.
The concept of the exhibition is to showcase the rich nature of the Okinawan sea as it is. with the theme of “Encounter with the Okinawan Sea”.
The exhibition is designed to create a place for visitors to encounter a wide variety of aquatic creatures that live in the sea of the Nansei Islands and the Kuroshio Current. the Kuroshio Sea in the Nansei Islands and Kuroshio Sea.
In addition to the aquarium, there are other facilities such as a planetarium and a botanical garden. You can enjoy the whole day in this huge park. Even though it was a weekday, there were many people visiting the park. I can see the beautiful ocean in front of me.
It was February when I visited here, but it was hot, with a maximum temperature of 25 degrees Celsius. The plaza in front of the aquarium overlooks the beautiful coastline. Now let’s go inside the aquarium!
Same day ticket for the aquarium is 2,180 yen for adults, 1,440 yen for high school students, 710 yen for elementary and junior high school students. Children under 6 years old are free By the way, tickets for the aquarium You can buy it at a discount price at various places.
This time, I bought a discount ticket in advance at “Roadside Station Kusuda Yanbaru Product Center” located at Kusuda IC in Nago City. I bought discount tickets in advance.
Discount tickets are ¥1,850 for adults, ¥1,250 for high school students, and ¥610 for elementary and junior high school students. I recommend you to buy it for a discount! Please note, however, that discount tickets can only be purchased with cash!
The first exhibit is “Creatures of Ino”. Ino” is an Okinawan dialect word meaning a shallow sea (reef pond) surrounded by coral reefs. Next is “Coral Sea”. 440 groups of reef-building corals of about 80 species are exhibited. Vividly colored fish are swimming among the corals. It’s very relaxing just to look at them.

There’s a café down there. It’s like a special reserved seat in the sea. There’s a big fish swimming at the top of the big tank. Whale shark. The large tank is 10m deep, 35m wide and 27m deep. About 70 species are exhibited. Before we go downstairs, let’s go to the exhibition area.

It looks like a manta ray is flying… The ceiling is made of acrylic panels, so you can see the top from the bottom. Whale sharks are swimming above. About 150 species of deep-sea creatures are on display. Some of them are collected from depths of more than 200m around Okinawa.
