On a slightly elevated hill in Osato, Nanjo City, there is Shimazoe Ozato Castle, which served as the base for Shohashi’s unification of the Ryukyus. This castle was built around the 14th century by Shimazoe Ozato Aji, who controlled the eastern half of the Shimajiri region at the time.

Osato Castle Park is located on the eastern slope of the hill where Shimazoe Ozato Castle was located. Centered around a spacious and well-ventilated plaza where white clover blooms in spring, there is a park golf course, play facilities for children, and two observation decks.

The observation deck is located on a hill above the ruins of the branch castle of Shimazoe Osato Castle. Therefore, you can overlook the whole of Nakagusuku Bay, as well as Katsuren Castle, Nakagusuku Castle, and Shuri Castle in the distance.

It is a very complete park, with a large plaza, playground equipment where children can play safely, and an observation deck where you can enjoy a spectacular view. Park golf equipment can also be rented out at the administration building at the park entrance, so you can enjoy park golf without bringing anything.

Selected as one of New Okinawa’s top 100 tourist attractions. Moreover, the facilities and equipment are well-equipped. However, it is surprisingly little known except for local residents and is a little-known park. Let’s visit Osato Castle Park. 南城市大里の小高い丘陵地に、尚巴志が三山統一を行った際の拠点になった島添大里城跡があります。
その島添大里城があった高台の東斜面に大里城趾公園があります。
公園内には、中城湾全体を一望のもとに見下ろすことができる展望台や子供を安心して遊ばせる事のできる遊具施設のほか、パークゴルフ場もあります。
新おきなわ観光名所100選にも選ばれ、施設や設備が充実している割りには、意外に地元住民以外には知られておらず、穴場な公園でもあります。
そんな大里城趾公園を訪ねてみました。
