[Kyoto Vlog] Relaxing Coffee Shop in Arashiyama | ACE Hotel Kyoto Review & Room Tour | Japan Travel
Welcome back! We were so excited to ride the Sagano Train today, but first we had to drop off our luggage at the hotel. It was a quick check-in process and then we were ready to go!
Kyoto is a beloved destination for people from all over the world who appreciate its artistic and cultural vibrancy. It is a hub for creative minds, such as artists, musicians and more. ACE Hotel is an innovative hotel chain that originated in Seattle, USA. In 2020, it opened its doors in Kyoto.
The Hotel is situated in Shinpūkan, a commercial complex that is directly connected to Kyoto Karasuma-Oike Station. The hotel occupies the former Kyoto Central Telephone Office, a historic building that was designed by Tetsuro Yoshida, a pioneer of modernism, in 1926. Shinpōkan is a stunning fusion of Kyoto’s traditional and contemporary culture.
Now, it has been transformed by Kengo Kuma, one of Japan’s leading architects, into a new landmark of Kyoto. Shinpōkan offers a variety of shops, clothing brands, and cafes that showcase the best of Kyoto’s art and lifestyle. The lobby has cozy sofas and tables that are available for everyone 24/7.
You can also enjoy free Wi-Fi and power outlets to stay connected and productive. It is more than just a place to stay. It is also a showcase of art and culture. The interior design was done by a renowned LA studio,
Combining Kyoto cedar woodwork and Kengo Kuma’s lighting to create a harmonious blend of East and West. You will also be amazed by the artworks that adorn the hotel, more than 20 artists from Japan and abroad, each with their own unique style and vision.
The guest rooms have exclusive artworks by a 90-year-old dye artist who spent four years creating the hotel’s logo and fonts. They are limited-time events that are held regularly in the lobby. The hotel is a fusion of old and new.
The design is stunning, with stylish furniture and lighting that create a cozy atmosphere. The room was spacious and clean. The room was also full of surprises, like a turntable that played music and a guitar that I could strum whenever I felt like it.
The furniture was unique and original, made by talented Japanese and foreign creators. The closet had pajamas for me to wear, and some of the hangers had cute messages on them. The bathroom had a deep bathtub that was perfect for relaxing.
The hotel had some drawbacks, though. The customer service was not very friendly, and the room amenities were basic. The hotel was connected to the station and close to Kawaramachi, which was convenient, but also noisy at times. I had a lot of fun exploring the hotel and its surroundings.
Now I’m hungry, so I’m going to go out for a walk and find something to eat! I stumbled upon a charming coffee shop on the way to Arashiyama. It was full of nostalgia and looked like a historic landmark near Arashiyama Station.
This was a place where you could enjoy pure coffee without any frills. This was a rare gem of a coffee shop where smoking was allowed. The shop had a cozy vibe. the old master behind the counter was chatting with the regulars…
This was a local hangout where you could feel at home. The breakfast set was only 450 yen and included coffee and toast. The sugar toast with sugar are filling and tasty.
The coffee roasted to perfection by the old master. It had a rich aroma and a smooth flavor that lingered on the tongue. The coffee was superb and the shop was quiet and relaxing. We savored our coffee in a serene atmosphere. I had such a blast on this trip to Kyoto!
