【熱海】特急踊り子で行く熱海観光 | Atami trip #1

Hello. This is the sightseeing part of my trip to Atami by limited express Odoriko. Relax in a town with a view of the sea. Please watch the video until the end. Hello, everyone. This is Mouton from Cozier Style. I’m here at Tokyo Station.

This time, we are going to Atami on the limited express train “Odoriko”. The train departs at 9:00 a.m. from platform 9 on the Tokaido Line. The limited express “Odoriko” is a limited express train connecting Tokyo to Izu. It is named “Odoriko” after the novel “Izu no Odoriko” written by Yasunari Kawabata.

I reserved a green seat in advance through Eki Net. Let’s get in. It is a spacious train with four rows of seats. There are armrests and a spacious seat. There is enough distance from the seat in front of me. There is a power outlet, a footrest, a pocket, and a desk.

The height of the pillows on the seat can be changed. Let’s go. It takes about an hour from Tokyo to Atami by Shinkansen, but this time I will take the limited express Odoriko, which I have always wanted to ride.

It is nice to head there leisurely, taking about 1 hour and 20 minutes. There is no on-board sales, so I bought a sandwich and coffee at the station. I will have it as breakfast. This time, we will visit Atami Plum Garden and Kiminoya Shrine on the first day and stay at ATAMI SEKAIE.

On the second day, we will enjoy the MOA Museum of Art and return home. Sagara Bay is in sight and we are approaching Atami. We have arrived at Atami Station. Here we change to the Ito Line. Head to Kinomiya Station, which is one station away.

In just one stop, you will arrive at Kinomiya Station. There is a bus heading to Atami Plum Garden, but I wanted to see what the city of Atami looked like, so I headed there on foot. As we walk up the hill, we can see Sagara Bay in the distance,

Which gives us the feeling of a town by the sea. We arrived after about a 10-minute walk from Kinomiya Station. Atami Plum Garden is a large garden that takes about 40 minutes to walk around.

It is said to be famous as the garden where you can see the earliest plum blossoms and the latest autumn leaves in Japan. As we go to the back of the plum garden, we see a waterfall. There seems to be a tunnel behind the waterfall. Let’s go there.

A narrow passageway that one person can pass through. This passage is for walking through the back side of the waterfall. It is rare to see the waterfall from the back side, so it is very exciting. The trees behind the waterfall are also beautiful.

When passing through and looking back, we can see the waterfall flowing out from the side. In addition to the waterfall, there is an art museum displaying works by Atami-born artists, a memorial museum for a composer, and a Korean garden, which is fun to stroll around.

The best place to visit is the footbath. They are held for a limited time during several days of the Plum Blossom Festival and the Autumn Leaves Festival. The footbath space has an open and pleasant feeling. You can purchase a towel for 100 yen, so please visit when it is held.

We came here in mid-November for the autumn leaves, but unfortunately we could not see them due to the mild winter. I would like to come back in the season of autumn leaves or when the plum blossoms are in full bloom. We have returned from Atami Plum Garden to Kinomiya Station.

Next, we headed for Kinomiya Shrine, a famous power spot. The path to Kinomiya Shrine is narrow, and it is difficult to pass each other. It seems to be located at the end of this tunnel. After passing through the tunnel, it is about a five-minute walk from the station.

The shrine is crowded with many tourists. Let’s go and visit the shrine. I got a lot of energy from the shrine and the camphor tree. I am hungry after breakfast, so I have a light meal at a café on the grounds of the shrine.

I sat at a counter table with a view of the main shrine. I bought a couple of things. Orange Cassis Sour, fried squid meatballs(Ikamenchi), and fried Mexicali. I want to have a seafood lunch at Atami station, so I share it with Piggy-san.(To avoid filling my stomach)

The fried Mexicali is dipped in tartar sauce. It is soft and flaky and goes well with the tartar sauce. It is so delicious that it is a must-try dish when you visit Kinomiya Shrine😆. This is Atami’s local dish, squid mentshi(Ikamenchi).

It is made of horse mackerel, mackerel, and squid, ground into a paste, and deep fried. Thank you very much for the meal. It was very satisfying to eat it while enjoying the view of the main shrine.

The counter where we were sitting earlier is on the second floor, and there is also a café on the first floor. The second floor was mainly alcohol, but there are many coffee and other café menu items downstairs. Next to the café, amulets are sold.

There is also an outdoor café next to the torii gate of Kinomiya Shrine. You can have a small drink or sweet treat. Now let’s go back to Atami station from Kinomiya station. We have arrived at Atami station. I’m heading to a sushi restaurant in the shopping district near Atami Station.

The Nakamise-dori street where we are walking now has a relaxed atmosphere, somehow reminiscent of the Showa period. We have arrived at Isomaru Nakamise-dori. I order the sushi set for lunch. It was a great lunch with a wide variety of sushi and miso soup with akadashi (red miso soup).

It was a very satisfying lunch. Thank you for the meal. Then, we will head to ATAMI Sekaie using the hotel’s shuttle service. I’ll show you how to stay overnight in the next video. This is the second day of my stay. Check out and go sightseeing today.

The hotel’s shuttle service will take you to the MOA Museum of Art. We have arrived. There are coin lockers next to the entrance, so if you have brought large luggage, it is recommended to leave it here. Now, let’s enter. At the front is the reception desk and escalator.

I bought an admission ticket online in advance. It was 200 yen cheaper than the same-day ticket. I was given a map of the museum, and it looks like a large museum with three floors. Let’s take our time to look around. The escalator we are going up now is 200 meters long.

It is colorful and beautiful. We are at the top of the escalator. It is a circular hall. The large kaleidoscope is beautiful. Fantastic atmosphere. Let’s relax here for a while. Go further up from the circular hall. This is Musk Square, where you can see the whole view of Sagara Bay.

Looking back, there are stairs and a building made of stone. The sea can also be seen from the stairs. The view of the sea from the building is also beautiful. Now, let’s go inside the building. Beyond the large automatic door is a large, vaulted space.

A little further in is the bright marble-floored lobby. It is nice to see the stairs we just walked up and Sagara Bay. There are several exhibits in the museum, including a golden tea room and a Noh theater where guests can experience Japanese traditions. This is the main tea ceremony exhibit.

It is filled with Japanese art such as hanging scrolls, folding screens, and ceramics. Next, let’s go to the courtyard. It is located at the end of the stairs. It is a garden called “Tea Garden”. This Japanese garden still has green foliage.

There is a tea house here where you can enjoy matcha green tea and Japanese sweets. There is also a restaurant, which is recommended for lunch. The beautiful garden with a stream flowing through it also calms my heart. Let’s go back and take a short rest until it is time for the return bus.

I order an ice cream. We can enjoy what we buy here in this bright and open seating area. Let’s relax and enjoy the view of Sagara Bay. We could have eaten at the restaurant, but we had a full breakfast at the hotel, so we decided to have a light lunch.

The combination of soft ice cream and coffee is the best. I was able to relax. It was almost time for the bus, so we headed outside. There is a bus to Atami Station every 15 to 30 minutes. The bus is very crowded and there is quite a long line.

It takes only about 5 minutes to get to Atami station, but if you want to sit down, it is recommended to get in line early. Arrived at Atami Station. Finally, we came to Atami Bataa-an at Mataichi An across the street from the sushi restaurant we visited yesterday.

It is very popular as a souvenir. Let’s have it on the train on the way back. I will also ride the limited express Odoriko on my way home. I will have the bean-jam butter bread I bought earlier. The bread is filled with red bean paste and butter. It’s heavy.

It is very rich and I love it because I have a sweet tooth. It was a great sightseeing tour, centered around Atami Station, where we enjoyed nature, art, and delicious food. In my next video, I will show you how we stayed at ATAMI SEKAIE.

  1. 熱海駅からMOA美術館までの道のりは急な坂道が多いので、タクシーかバスで行くのがおすすめです🚌ムートン
