Japan Travel Vlog 2024 🇯🇵 Tokyo to Kamakura Day Trip, Japanese Street Food, Shopping

After spending an entire week eating and shopping our way through Tokyo we were ready to take a breather with an out of town day trip grilled salmon, tamago, rice blue bottle cold brew many beautiful japanese buildings in the higashi-nakano neighborhood stopped by family mart on the way to the train

Try this one this morning: shrimp and mayonnaise onigiri there’s also some sort of hash brown promo today so i think i’m gonna to try that custard cream puff overflowing sorry, beard papa this is like 3x more cream the ride to kamakura is about 1 hour and 30 minutes with some stops in between

Almost there komachi-dori is kamakura’s main shopping street it’s common to rent a kimono to take photos around town this ghibli store is right by the entrance of the street calcifer diffuser from howl’s moving castle cat bus pouch from my neighbor totoro mini totoro lamp

There are over 250 shops on this street including an amazing selection of japanese street food traditional japanese sweets this is a soybean dango made of glutinous rice flour cake this one is filled with steamed edamame paste the inside of the soy bean this local meat shop sells croquettes and homemade sausage

– you’re gonna barehand them? – yeah, because you can’t see it – smells good – super hot super juicy… look at the fat inside, the herbs – wowwww – have a bite i think this is the coarsely-ground one Japanese Excellence that one was really good… there’s a smokiness to the meat

We should have ordered two orders each… sweet tomato pickles you can try different kinds of tsukemono like daikon (radish) this lotus root looks really good yuzu daikon pickles if you’re feeling extra crafty, you can make your own ring at this workshop you can also have a ring custom made in 5 minutes

Picking the style and material end the finish chose a wavy silver ring like this one first the sizing then bending it into shape next polishing the metal then adding the texture and finish all in about 5 minutes trying a kamakura specialty for lunch shirasu don made with fresh whitebait from sagami bay

Then served over hot rice it also comes with this massive kakiage… this one’s mushroom this kakiage also has tiny whitebait in it – so how do you like the shirasu bowl? – so good… so pillowy… so soft and comforting it’s like biting into a cloud… of a million fish

Scenic walk while the wife shops kore wa ii ne amazing director hirakazu kore-eda has a film screening the residence of nagamasa and kashiko kawakita a couple that pioneered japan’s film industry i recommend this museum if you want to learn about japan’s film culture the wifeless walks continue spider…

Too many spiders i saw like a dozen already i saw this guy… pspspspsps (filipino way of calling cats) meiji kohi meanwhile sam went shopping in komachi-dori first came across this jeweler at a flea market in fukuoka they create the most interesting organic shapes by hand

Didn’t realize there were so many jewelry shops in kamakura this one had more fine jewelry pieces japanese good luck charms year of the dragon figures met up an hour later to get coffee nice fade came across this workshop on the way to the cafe – do you know brass? – yes, brass

The owner of the shop was super friendly and wanted to share what they did at his workshop adventure with our new friend these colors this is from the plum – but bad smell – ohhh, okay – you want challenge? – okay, sure ohhhhhh

– it’s fermentation? or is that like a… – chemical? – chemical, no, no chemical – natural? – natural! – natural process i think earth smell – oh, mud – yes – and you use that to dye, for dyeing – yes, yes had to take photos to remember him by

This tree-lined walkway cuts through the main road pour overs in kamakura coffee is a fruit signature blend number one street level back at the kamakura station taking the enoden to a seaside train station popular for being featured in the anime slam dunk it’s a 20 minute ride

We hoped to make it before the sun set made it while there was still some light left so many slam dunk fans from all over the world made it to slam dunk’s location clutch moves in kamakura everyone waited patiently for the train to cross just like in the opening scene

Time to take some photos such a beautiful view of the pacific ocean time to head back for dinner not a bad view waiting for the train hope we get to come back to explore more of kamakura this tonkatsu restaurant by the station looked promising grating sesame for the tonkatsu

First time trying blood orange dressing ralph ordered the katsudon fried pork cutlet with egg and simmered onions sam ordered the rosu katsu (breaded pork loin) the rosu cut has more fat and umami flavor beautifully breaded the crunch! wow… oh my gosh also delicious with a dab of horseradish

Looking for the perfect day trip from Tokyo? Take the train with us from Tokyo to Kamakura (鎌倉) on Day 7 of our Tokyo Travel Guide!

Just an hour south of Tokyo, Kamakura is a beautiful seaside town known for its beaches, surfer culture, temple sightseeing, and artisanal shopping. Walk through Kamakura’s best shopping street, the Komachi-dori Street, as we try Japanese street food, a trio of locally made sausages, and the biggest shirasu whitefish bento.

Zigzag through the back alleys on this Kamakura vlog to find hidden gems, things to do, and meet the friendliest locals and artists (lil spiders included).

Breathe that coastal air. Sip that matcha. Chew that mochi.

We end the day with a special sunset view at the Slam Dunk Site Railway Crossing, just a few scenic local stations away from Kamakura Station.

Come on up, Kamakura! Bring your film cameras. It’s a day trip to remember.

Stay tuned for the rest of our 7 Days in Tokyo!
