【京都観光】泉涌寺(せんにゅうじ)皇室菩提寺|Sennyuji Temple, Kyoto Higashiyama

Sennyu-ji is located in Higashiyama ward of Kyoto. 15 minutes walk from Kyoto City Bus “Sennyuji-michi” bus stop It’s all uphill, so I recommend taking a taxi on snow days. Sennyu-ji Temple is the head temple of the Sennyu-ji sect of the Shingon Buddhism.

It is called roaring dragon because the sound echoes when you clap your hands in a specific place under the painting. Japan’s oldest statue of Idaten is enshrined next to the Buddha’s relics.

Reimeiden The memorial tablets of emperors are enshrined here. It is said that the Buddhist altar articles used at Reimeiden were donated by the imperial family. There is a path that leads to Tsukinowanomisasagi. There are many Imperial mausoleums in Kyoto. There are a particularly many mausoleums around Sennyu-ji Temple.

Many emperors and other members of the imperial family mausoleum are here. Imperial Messengers’ Gate (Chokushimon) There is the temple office behind this gate. Reimeiden Gozasho Admisson for Gozasho and garden is 500 YEN I entered the garden. The hall with white wall is Kaiedo.

Buddhist statue which kept close at hand for personal worship by successive emperors and empresses are enshrined here. There is a map of the sub-temples next to the main gate, so you can check about where to go next.
