Attack On Titan in Hita (進撃の巨人 in Hita) | Hita, Ōita, Japan | October 2023

[Applause] [Applause] [Applause] hello fellow ticket holders and welcome to the second part of our first full day in Japan if you have not checked out the first part yet be sure to go over and check it out as we had a wonderful time exploring the town of amag we got to see

The sakuro waterfall and we got the on hot between a couple of the outdoor Hot Springs but in this video we are going to start where that one left off and that was with us arriving at the station in the town of H and we have arrived at

H station but we do not have time to see the stuff here at the station right now cuz we got to go pick up a rental car though Vanessa is going to take a peek at Levi real quick so we will look at the Levi statue but we’ll have to get a

Better shot later but look at that how cool is that he’s shorter in person but yeah as I just said we need to go catch a rental car because uh yeah I’m going to drive we have to get a car to go see the other locations and uh

This is going to be interesting so let’s uh go cross town here and pick up the rental Car and here we are we have made it to the times rental car and uh I don’t know if that’s going to be our little box right here or if that Toyota right there is going to be ours but or I guess it’s a Nissan guess we’ll find out here

Momentarily all right after a little bit of confusion at the rental car company we have our rental car so let’s make our way over to oama Dam Okay so uh yeah there’s our little rental car right there little Nissan something or other so we have successfully made it uh fortunately unfortunately let’s just say fortunately let’s stay positive to the top of the damn first not to where the statue is and we will look

Down and then we will work our way back down to the bottom of the dam and here we are on the right side of the dam so this is where the water is being held back and look how gorgeous these trees in the mountains are so amazing and if we look to the

Left side of the dam right now before we peer down in a bit again look at all of the Evergreens on the mountain and if we just peer down over the edge of the dam here little anti-climatic because it doesn’t go down the wall like a normal Dam they have it

Going through I’m assuming probably power plant or something thing it comes out down there but where we’re trying to get to is where there’s people down here taking pictures in their Scout alids you got Armen Aaron and masasa the statue down there which again someone’s taking their picture with

Their Scout vest on but we will make our way down there in a second I’m just going to take in this gorgeousness really [Applause] quick [Applause] Oh my goodness this is a big spider up here see if I can zoom in on it I am not going to get closer I’m not going to bother it I don’t think it’s going to focus I think that’s the best I’m going to get oh it’s moving oh my goodness

It’s moving there we go I think that’s the best I think it’s showing it look at that thing is huge and there’s another one down there that one’s even bigger it might be pregnant it kind of has a sack on its backside and that will conclude our time up here

On top of the dam I said we’re going to wake our way down but we’re up here with this building up here I don’t know what it’s for but what’s neat is is we just went inside and they have restrooms and a vending machine that’s currently

Turned off but even up here in the middle of nowhere you can find restrooms that are clean and easy to access and again real quick this is our little rental car so you do drive the car on the right hand side and you drive on the

Left side of the road um a little nerve-wracking to get up here this what we got ‘s rental car the gentleman was pretty good at doing what he needed to do we taught him how to use the international driving permit and it’s a Nissan note so yeah we’ll have us for a few

Hours to see all the attack on Titan stuff and then we will continue on And here we are we have made it to the base of the dam and here we are looking up at it but look how pretty of a river the dam makes as it comes down here on this other end so tranquil and peaceful and here are their commemorative Scout banners that say

Attack on H it is worth the hike and actually we decided to go up the rampway instead of the stairwell there cuz in theory going uphill on the rain ramp should be easier but we’re almost there and we have made it to the actual base of the dam and over here are the

Statues that we came [Applause] for Attack on Titan was created by May iyama who was born and raised in h Japan as part of a project to celebrate 10 years of publication for the attack on titans manga a crowdfunded project was organized by vol volunteers from H City stage one of this crowdfunding

Project was the erection of this bronze statue of young Aaron masasa and Armen looking up at oyama Dam imagine oyama Dam as W Maria this statue recreates the opening scene in which Titans first attack and earlier we were just right up there on the other side of that pillar I was showing coming

Down the wall again anti-climatic because it goes through the Distribution Center here now and comes out down here at the bottom to go right into that River and to just make the full circle we’re going to go down the stairs that we opted out of not coming up though

It’s going to be easier but down to the bottom we go so that was just absolutely incredible the dam on its own as you could see was absolutely gorgeous we’re surrounded by mountains which is why isama the creator of Attack on Titan one of my favorite animes this was his

Hometown and he took the inspiration for the manga because of these beautiful mountains in an interview he he said he was he felt secluded and just like Armen Mikasa and um Aaron they just wanted to see if there was anything else outside in the of the of their world this town

Is so small and compact that that this is where he got the inspiration from and a few years ago they erected those statues to bring more tourism into h i I am pretty privilege to say that I have come and been able to travel across the

World to see this and I am incredibly grateful and it is so beautiful out here I can’t even put it into words it’s just so beautiful so that will conclude our time here at oyama Dam so let’s get back into the rental car and go to our second

Stop for some lunch and the attack on titans Museum So it is time for lunch we’re going go here to the Yakov place all right we have our order in for lunch today and first off we have what we think is barley iced tea a bowl of rice and some homemade pickles everything looks so amazing after no time at all our small

Yakas SOA has come out these are ramen style wheat noodles fried with some vegetables and some Breen Sprouts oh it looks and smells amazing so before we head out we have to check out this drawing eama Drew this as part of the attack and he celebration because he

Used to work here part-time in high school so we just had lunch right over there and we came right over this section next door cuz next door here is the farmers market but inside the farmers market is the attack on titans Museum so we’re going to go in and check

That out and as we head towards the entrance we are greeted by the spooky looking hands and uh the wall yeah with the Scout emblem and we will follow the Scout banners to the entrance to the museum we’ll check out what they got in 2021 the town ahita opened the Museum

Of Attack on Titan with a hope it would bring tourism to the town from the popularity of the manga with an Eclectic collection of sketches drawings and models the attack on Titan Museum is a must for Attack on Titan Fans Divided into a couple of rooms this first room has artwork from conventions as well as some original pages from the manga And in the second room a replica of the desk used by the animators and one of the coolest things is the characters in h going to the dam in the restaurant and in the final room we have artwork done by eama when he was younger from childhood up through

Through high school we can see his evolution in Animation finally in this room we have a replica of his wedding cake and his original animator’s desk finally in the back hallway we have some more original ecama artwork and a photo so before we head out of this area we’re going to stop into this gelato

Shop and get a snack I think we’re going to get a couple of flavors as well as this souvenir cup so here is the souvenir cup well really a cup sleeve with the characters on it and we picked up three flavors we have strawberry watermelon and Yuzu

Peach and before we leave this area we’re going to walk down here uh to this area they have set up at the Riverside look how pretty it is from up here we’ll get a little bit closer so that will conclude our time here at the attack on and Titans Museum as well

As this little area here so we’ll just do a quick recap of everything we did cuz we kind of just kept moving quickly so right behind us is the aaob needle Place isama actually worked there at that location so they definitely are celebrating like the rest of the Town

The Tackle Titan things and that’s really kind of our first full real meal here in Japan yeah I have more to come on that but I’ve had a lot of nerves for this trip and I haven’t have have had an appetite I’ve been eating what I can of

Course and keeping hydrated but I really haven’t had an appetite until today and um what a great way to start the trip by eating what this town H is actually known for bried yakis SOA and uh they were really good they were really good the shop was super friendly very

Friendly to us being we we we looked ahead of time to see what we wanted to to get and we just pointed and she was like yep no problem and was really cool eating with the locals cuz nothing but locals there and only a few tables there

But uh one was open when we showed up really enjoyed that really tasty and then the drink though I think is the barley tea it might be barley tea I’ve never had sure what it was but it was still okay that was unique it was a

Unique flavor cuz it was listed as an item on the menu but yeah there was like free tea on the table so then the museum itself it’s definitely smaller than I expected but I guess it is just behind the farmers market um which then explain the videos that we saw why they only

Showed a few things because it’s not that big and it’s mostly just the concept art and the art from the artist himself um I never saw the room with the new desks we always saw the one with his original desk but that seemed to be a

New yeah it’s a new exhibit I think when he went to France to promote Attack on Titan they brought some of the items that were shown over there in France I believe and it’s limited time only it’s like 17 uh neverbe seen uh pictures and I believe they brought over the desk

Yeah I’m glad I got to catch that cuz all previous videos before it was just uh the simple everyday stuff that he’s brought to the town of H it was great finally being able to see um original artwork from from him and it just brought so much joy to my heart and then

When we were done we went ahead and got some dessert for today and the gelato was really good I really like the watermelon tast is so refreshing yeah it was no preservatives no colors no dyes and whatnot everything was fresh it was so good it’s from a Italian guy uh that

Moved to Japan but it was so good I’m so glad I’m so glad it was open so that conclude this section here in this part of the Town um there is another Attack on Titans Museum that just recently opened up over at the seoro Brewing we

Were going to go do that but due to the fact that we were delayed with getting the rental car because the guy was new at his job and didn’t know how to take care of theal driving permit he even had like the papers and what he did his best

And he got us situated um but we are instead of hiking up the mountain or up the hill there is a shrine one of his that will Overlook the town of so we’re going to drive there should be able to park and do that real quick before we

Have to return the rent of car which kind of ready to get rid of it it’s not been that bad but anyhow we’ll go over that later um but yeah let’s move on to downtown H So I thought we would park at the top but apparently we still park at the bottom but uh we’ll make our way to the top of the hill here this is hium Shrine Park and we’re going to make our way under our first Tory gate here make our

Way up to the top of the mountain well Hill it’s not really a Mountain Oh [Applause] All right so that was our short visit to the kyama Park in the kokum Shrine more of a hike than I thought I thought we were going to drive to the top which apparently we did not um but it’s also a larger Park than I expected very Serene

Very very peaceful tranquil up there lot of locals with their kids playing and whatnot um also thought we’d be able to see the city from of there but we could not um but yeah definitely definitely our first shrine and we will see probably not definitely not our last

We’ll see over here but definitely really nice beautiful so at this point we’re just going to drop the the car off it is almost 5:00 it it’s 4:11 so I got to go get gas and then drop it off um don’t want to wig the guy out right at

5:00 cuz I don’t know what he has to do to check us out so uh we’ll do that and then we’ll continue on with our day here in h and we have dropped off the car successfully we have made it back to H station and what is a cool photo spot

For the train station is you can be the eye like Vanessa is demonstrating right now be a happy eye jump up and down all right and not only is the he station ready for their uh cycling that’s getting ready to happen here tour dayu they also are ready for Halloween

Look at how cute these decorations are just some classic buckets and I like this ghost one here it says boo and right next to it there’s one say Halloween but yeah they definitely started to celebrate Halloween here in Japan That clock means it’s 5:00 Levi that means the town of H is shutting down they make the announcement to everybody they did that at noon as well here in the train station is it’s a really pretty station but these are made out of the wood which

Is known for here in h and they got like looks kind of like a bird print on this one we have umbrellas on this one here with a peacock maybe or am I seeing things like little rain droplets over on this one but yeah really pretty train station

Here all right while we’re waiting for our train to go back to fukoka uh I did Google translate on both of these and the one one with the orange dot is actually pumpkin so it is seasonal and this one is the traditional red bean paste one like you we have had before

And this is the water wab Mochi it’s hard to say and it is covered in Kino I guess is the Pow kinako is roasted soybean flour and then the syrup is just meu syrup like a dark brown sugar syrup and we tried these early it smells very

Much like peanut butter but it does not taste like peanut butter it’s kind of bitter um but then the syrup gives it a sweet flavoring it’s okay and if you happen to not remember we picked these up there at the sweet shop in amagase as

We wait for the yfu noi train to come on track one here at H station we have one last Attack on Titans thing here and uh got Levi here with the big sandals so the yufu and no Mori ran by the JR Rail company on the kushu railway is a

Unique train with its classic look and hardwood floorings this train runs between Fukuoka at Hakata station all the way to beu so it is late so I’m going to do a quick room tour here at the toku so we’re going to start here at the door on the right hand side we have

The closet got our little slippers if you need them shoe horn shoe brush and everything mirror right here right here we got the washing machine going the washer dryer microwave this is neat right here this is like a pant press right here for the businessman and if we turn right here to

The left of the Fancy Pants press we have the bathroom so again another western style bathroom with a tub and a shower on the just on its cord here here got the Japanese toilet of course with all the controls there and here we just have a

Sink it is a little low um but yeah and over here is a tow rack and towels over here we have a little kitchenet with the sink the teapot little ice bucket nothing under there got the refrigerator and a hot pot right there see these don’t open oh this one

Does oh we got plates cups and silverware pardon the mess we just came back in um we got a little seating area here this is a two twin bedroom so we got those there that just looks out to the out the window to the other building next door

So we don’t have much of a view and around here we have the large TV air conditioning units up here on the wall yeah pretty normal size room for us standards cuz I made sure that we got a little bit larger rooms when I booked them so again this the two twin bedrooms

Here at the to in and before we sign off of this video let’s check out the lobby it is a really nice Lobby here with a checkout counter as well as a digital checkin and checkout and by the elevator we do have a self-service amenities area where you

Can get toothbrush and toothpaste some tea hair brush and maps and finally there’s a 24-hour coffee bar and that will conclude our second part of of our first full day in Japan where we visited H so it is time for our debriefing of the day so we have a

Couple of topics that we need to talk about and the first one would be the whole Driving Experience so as we touched in the video we did have a little bit of problems at the rental company but that got all situated and figured out um it did take about an hour

To do so but I am glad it actually worked out so we could stop at all these different locations all over the town um during the summer though they were running a bus a shuttle bus between the different spots which I wish they were doing when we were there but they were

Only running it on the weekends and this was a Monday so that’s something to look out for is to go check out the website and if they’re running a shuttle bus you might have a little bit of better luck than we did with the rental car um but

Back to the rental car itself it was a little nerve-wracking as I mentioned um obviously opposite of driving of what we’re used to here in the United States and actually all the controls are on the car as well so in a couple shots you’ll see the windshield wipers go and that’s

Because I was trying to turn the turn signal on and I was turn the wipers on but overall it wasn’t a bad experience um I only went on the wrong side of the road once and when we were done fueling up with gasoline so when I came out of

The gas station we were trying to figure out which way to go to return the car and I got into the wrong L um but other than that I am proud of myself for actually doing everything properly so again not too bad but definitely a little bit of nerve-wracking the second

Thing that we wanted to touch on when we were at the attack on Titan Museum and we were outside having our Gelato dessert um there was actually a News Group there from NHK that is a worldwide um News company but their local branch was out actually interviewing people

Wondering why were they out in h uh what type of things were they doing in the fall but the funniest part is is they saw us coming out from behind the gelato store where we were eating our gelato and uh they decided to come over and interview well interview Vanessa

Actually um but both of us but she basically talked to them and uh they asked us why were we there where were we from um saw that we had food in our hands so wanted to know what type of fall Foods we were looking forward to we

Kind of had to let them know that that was our real first day um so we told them what we were looking forward to as our trip went along uh yeah one of the well I was looking forward to all the chestnut flavored items because in Japan Chestnut is huge during the Autumn

Season there um but yeah it was really cool and one real neat thing is the microphone they had yeah it was they were little like you know Japan’s full of kawaii every single thing in Japan has a mascot there was even a flower that we found uh with a local

Garden area that had mascots for each of the flowers that they uh showcase there and it’s it’s awesome well yeah so these two little adorable uh were the spirit of onen because H is part of the region of OA which is one of the top three

Places for hot springs in Japan yeah so that was really awesome we even found out that the camera guy uh studied in Washington DC did NHK International he said he worked for them at the Washington DC Branch so he knew exactly where Maryland was that’s why he he was

Able to translate between me and the Japanese girl that uh couldn’t speak any English it was so awesome and I wish we could have seen ourselves broadcasted but they said it was only in the app and obviously the app doesn’t work on a US phone and I tried to look on the website

And it wasn’t there either so they said on the app only I’m like bummer that would have been so cool but it was so it was awesome meeting the cute little uh they’re little mascots and they were super friendly and I’m glad I got uh interviewed yeah so that was definitely

An interesting situation so I guess the last thing we’ll touch on is what you mentioned very briefly when we were kind of talking about everything in that area about nerves and whatnot about being first time in Japan so okay well I had I had brought up nerves while we were

Talking in the car uh before the trip we had gone and done some hot stuff at Bush Gardens and we both got extremely sick and um we were just barely coming off of that sickness and that was 2 weeks before we left and that was 2 weeks

Before we left we were just getting better 2 days before the trip so while I was sick I was still at work I was still um finishing last minute packing I wasn’t 100% packed I was about 80% packed two days before leaving to Japan so I was a complete wreck um I was

Extremely nervous about how we were going to do with a 14-hour flight if I was going to get nauseous if I was just uh I was worried about not getting sleep and unfortunately I didn’t get any sleep so um that had to do I think being up

For 24 hours had to do a lot with me not having an appetite we’re going to a brand new country uh I think the thing that the thing that was the topic that was really in the back of my head that was really affecting me uh was the

Language barrier that one was freaking me out I’m like what are we going to do no one’s going to understand us how do we talk to people and that’s on us because we really didn’t prepare for that we did learn the basics but even with the basics I was still nervous so yeah

That’s I was just nervous uh so that’s why I didn’t have an appe tight and it didn’t help that that morning we didn’t actually have a breakfast because if you watched our first part of this video we actually just ate a protein bars and those protein bars that we had were just left

Over from the airplane so we picked those up in in Washington DC thinking we needed food on the airplane um so yeah luckily had that so we weren’t really running on a lot of nutrition the night before or sleep yeah running about four to 5 hours of sleep not a lot of

Nutrition so actually it was really nice to get to that yakas subi place and have a nice meal um and it kind of was the first time that we realized that the language Berry wasn’t a big problem when it comes to ordering food cuz we sat

Down and just like vess said in the video we just pointed to what we wanted and that was it it came straight out and everybody was just really patient with us um I did find it a little weird because on the plane I did eat all my

Meals so I thought I once I got to Japan I was going to have a huge appetite I did not I did not have an appetite at all I think just everything just go go go which that is going to be the running theme with all these videos is We R ran

A lot back and forth a lot um I think it it didn’t help with all that but but anyway hope you enjoyed this second part of the first day again if you’ve watched this and didn’t watch our first part and our first part we did go to amag onen

Town which is right below H so be sure to go check that video out I’ll leave it down in the description or just go check it out on the Channel but uh coming up next we will be going to kinosaki onen oh my gosh um an actual full Resort town

And so we are excited to share that with you love that area love doing the hot springs and everything so look forward to that coming soon so until next time be safe be kind and Adventure on bye thank you for watching our video if you

Hello fellow ticket holders. Join us as we finish our first full day in Japan. In this video we visit the town of Hita (日田) the hometown of Hajime Isayama the creator of Attack on Titan (Shingeki No Kyojin: 進撃の巨人). During our short visit to Hita, we had one objective, to see the main Attack on Titan in Hita (進撃の巨人 in Hita) points of interest. Therefore, we rented a car and started our pilgrimage. First stop was at Oyama Dam (大山ダム) and the bronze statue of Eren, Mikasa and Armin. Our second stop, consisting of two points of interest, was at the Mizube no Sato Oyama Rest Area where we visited the Attack on Titan in Hita Museum (進撃の巨人 in HITA ミュージアム) and had lunch at Yakisoba no Sofuren Oyama Store (焼そばの 想夫恋 大山店). Before returning the rental car, we made one final stop at Kameyama Park (亀山公園) to visit the Hinokuma Shrine (日隈神社). After returning the rental car, we check out the area around Hita Station (日田駅) while we waited for our train ride on the Yufuin No Mori back to Fukuoka. Finally, we ended our night at the Tokyu Stay Hakata (東急ステイ博多).

  1. “Venessa is going to take a look at Levi real quick” – the unofficial subtitle of the whole trip, really 😂 I can attest that driving on the left side of the road is a strange and unsettling experience for those of us that have grown up driving on the right side of the road…having said that, I think only three countries worldwide actually do right-side driving lanes. Perhaps we’re the weird ones? 👀 The AOT dam was awesome. Not that it wasn’t iconic and beautiful, but I was thinking that you guys went an awfully long way just to see the trio statue! Glad that there was a whole AOT museum to explore and experience there, too. Also weirdly glad to see a coca-cola machine, as I’m always devastated when I make it out to a small town and they don’t have any brand sodas 😂 Lunch looked delicious, as I’m sure it was throughout the international journey. Love me a good hike with pretty scenery, too! If one is to be an ‘I’, be the happiest ‘I’ you can be…that’s what I always say haha great video, y’all! ✨
