【番外編】妻の地元鹿児島へ行った夫のひとり旅vlog
This time, it’s an extra video. A husband’s solo trip to his wife’s hometown. Subtitles are from the mind of Mei’s husband. I will take the Shinkansen from Tokyo station to Kyushu area. My wife has already returned to her parents’ house. What should I bring as a gift?
A variety of popular Tokyo souvenir sweets. I will take the Shinkansen Nozomi. I bought “Butter Butler”. The most popular butter financier made with European fermented butter and French salt. The Shinkansen departs on time. The plan is to take the Shinkansen from Tokyo Station and change trains at Shin-Osaka Station on the way.
It’s about a seven-hour trip to the destination. Yes, it is a distance most people travel by plane. Ekiben (bento box) The hamburger steak, I liked it. The rice, to be honest, not so good. It is pleasant to look out the train window in a daze.
Two and a half hours from Tokyo Station by Shinkansen. Arrived at Shin-Osaka station. Okay, I have about 20 minutes until the next bullet train. Ah 😩 The line for the famous Osaka’s famous pork bun store was longer than expected…Approximate time is 20 minutes. I’ll give up.
The platform for the Kyushu Shinkansen departing from Shin-Osaka Station appears to be just ahead. They seem to use the end platform. Somewhat confusing for first-time visitors. Next, take the Shinkansen Mizuho to Kyushu area. It takes 4 hours from here to the destination station by Shinkansen.
It’s the soft, fluffy, reserved seat I’ve heard so much about! Melon bread bought at Shin-Osaka station. Depart We’re in Hiroshima city. I haven’t been there for a while and would love to go back. I want to watch baseball games in this stadium. Arrived!
Satsuma-yaki ceramics, Oshima tsumugi silk, and other representative Kagoshima crafts are on display. The most eye-catching among them are the shochu bottles lined up in a row. Shochu is a distilled spirit. Kagoshima is one of the most famous prefectures in Japan for its thriving agriculture and fishing industry.
I personally recommend the restaurant KAREN, which is directly managed by Japan Agricultural Cooperatives Kagoshima. There is also a branch in Tokyo. I’m staying at this hotel tonight. Conveniently located directly connected to the station. The lobby Here’s what the room I stay in looks like. View from the room
Illumination of the station building that shines brightly. Large bus rotary in front of the station. The area in front of the station is urbanizing. High-rise apartments were built where there used to be a local shopping street in front of the station. And the famous streetcar. Now, heading to the downtown called Tenmonkan.
Am going to my wife’s parents’ house tomorrow evening, so it’s my free time until then! I’ve been curious about this place for a while. It was established in 1961. Order the famous Momoyaki (grilled chicken thighs over charcoal). This is what I wanted to eat! Good aroma of charcoal grill.
Additional order of steamed rice and miso soup with shellfish. Coming to this restaurant was a very right choice! The logo was drawn by a famous Japanese cartoonist. (The owner gave me permission to take pictures.) No other main choices except grilled chicken, so please keep it in your mind when you visit.
My father in law told me about this ramen restaurant as the best place to have a last meal after drinking. Ramen noodles in a light pork bone broth. Since this ramen is light in flavor, it is not recommended when you are not drinking.
The restaurant is very popular with drinkers, so even though it is late at night, the restaurant is crowded! Also, as a characteristic of Kagoshima ramen restaurants, pickled daikon radish are served as a service. walk back to the hotel to sober up and help my stomach digest. Downtown was very crowded.
Back to the hotel. Good night. Day 2 . Good morning. The hotel is directly connected to the station. So you can see the Shinkansen platform. The distance from the train stop to the wall is closer than you’d think. I’m going out for breakfast.
Walking along the road in front of the station, I found a sign. Napoli dori Avenue? It says Kagoshima City and Naples City are sister cities. What a quaint building.
After 50 minutes of walking and getting lost, finally arrived at the Kagoshima Central Wholesale Market. (Hey, there was a choice to rent a bicycles for a fee on the way. By Mei.) Local eatery in the market. Oh, this sashimi set meal looks nice(1,600 yen)! Fresh Sashimi!!!
Got lost on the way, there were places where there were no sidewalks, and almost gave up when it rained. But I’m glad I came here! According to my wife’s family information, there is also a branch in Tenmonkan area. Also found Miami Avenue. Walk to Tenmonkan area.
I thought about eating ramen at Tenmonkan, but I’m still full. went back to the station for lunch. Long-established ramen restaurant since 1946. For tourists, the Chuo Station branch and Amu Plaza Kagoshima branch are have good accessibility. Ordered the Zabon ramen. Nice aroma of pork bone soup!
This chashu pork is also good! Served on a small plate is pickled daikon radish Visited my parents in law’s house after that. We had a good time over a delicious meal made by mother in law. Final day The day to return to Tokyo has come early!
Another 7-hour Shinkansen trip is about to begin. Something to look at before get on the bullet train. The car stop is still closer than I thought. brunch A well-seasoned side dish A good amount of rice is packed. Departure Arrive at Hakata Station for transfer. What should I have?
Here again, found the Shinkansen Tsubame. Shinkansen Nozomi, the bullet train I am about to board, arrives. Departure It’s time to eat ekiben! Squid shao mai, it tastes good! Buy an ice cream from the on-board vendor. It is famous in Japan as a very hard ice cream due to being cooled by dry ice.
*Unfortunately, in-train sales on Shinkansen ordinary trains between Hakata and Shin-Osaka stations will end on March 15, 2024. It will continue only in the first-class Green Car. The end of the long Shinkansen journey is approaching. That’s all of a video of solo trip to Kagoshima.
