List of national treasure buildings ⑱Shiga Prefecture Part 2 Northern/Eastern This is a channel that introduces national treasure buildings from all over Japan. This time we will introduce 10 national treasure buildings in the northern and eastern parts of Shiga Prefecture.

National treasure buildings from the early Kamakura period to the Momoyama period remain in this area. 1. Hogonji Temple Karamon Tsukubusuma Shrine Main Hall Hogonji Temple and Tsukubusuma Shrine are located on Chikubu Island in the northern part of Lake Biwa. Take a 30-minute ride on a sightseeing boat from Nagahama Port, Hikone Port, etc.

Hogon-ji Temple was founded in 724 by the imperial order of Emperor Shomu. Shingon sect temple founded by Gyoki Karamon was built in 1603 Toyotomi Hideyori relocated the Hokokubyo Gokurakumon Gate, which enshrined Hideyoshi. The boat corridor used the oar of Hideyoshi’s ship when he dispatched troops to Korea. Tsukubusuma Shrine enshrines Ichikishima Hime no Mikoto and three other deities. Shrines were separated from temples during the Meiji period due to the anti-Buddhist movement. 2. Hikone Castle castle tower and 2 other buildings

Hikone Castle is located in Hikone City, Shiga. Built between 1604 and 1622 It is the residence of the Ii family, the feudal lord of the Tokugawa dynasty. The castle tower was completed in 1606 There are gable gables, hipped gables, and Kara gables. A castle tower with a wide variety of features including a balustrade and a surrounding edge. One of the five castles designated as a national treasure out of the 12 existing castle towers.

The castle tower is located on a hill about 50m high, so it’s a bit difficult to climb up. 3. Saimyoji main hall and 1 other building Saimyoji Temple in Kora-cho, Shiga Tendai sect temple founded in 834 One of the three mountains of Koto on the east coast of Lake Biwa

Only the main hall, three-story pagoda, and Nitenmon gate remained after Oda Nobunaga’s burning attack. The main hall was built in the early Kamakura period and is designated as the first national treasure. It is a large hall built in a pure Japanese style with seven rooms in both the columns and beams. The three-storied pagoda was built in the late Kamakura period. Neither the main hall nor the three-storied pagoda uses nails. The garden is also very beautiful 4. Kongorinji Temple Main Hall Kongorinji Temple is located in Aisho-cho, Shiga. Tendai sect temple founded in 741

Thousand Jizo statues are lined up along the approach to the main hall. The main hall was built to commemorate the victory of the Mongol invasion. The main hall was built in 1288. Gabled structure with 7 widths of girders and beams It is also considered a representative example of Japanese-style architecture from the Kamakura period. One of the three remaining Koto Sanzan is Hyakusaiji Temple in Higashiomi City, Shiga 5. Namura Shrine West Main Hall

Namura Shrine in Ryuo Town, Shiga It is said to have been founded during the era of the 11th Emperor Suinin. Enshrines the deities Namurahiko, Namurahime, and Kunisatsuchi. The west main hall was built in 1308. It is made of Sangensha Nagaru-zukuri style with a facing prayer, and the roof is thatched with cypress bark. The main shrine of Hachiman Shrine and the main shrine of Juzenshi Shrine, which are built on the side, are built in Ikkensha style construction. Important cultural property built in the Muromachi period

The east main shrine is located on the opposite side of the road. The precincts are a little lonely compared to the west, but this one was founded earlier. 6. Osasahara Shrine Main Hall Osasahara Shrine in Yasu City, Shiga It is said that the shrine building was built in 986.

A shrine that enshrines Susanoo no Mikoto and five other gods. The main hall was built in 1414. The designs of the railings, side shoji doors, and lattice doors are stunning. The four-eyed Yui divine crest belongs to the Omi-Genji Sasaki clan. The place name is Oshinohara, but Shinohara Shrine is on the smaller side on the left. Enshrining the God of Mochi

7. Mikami Shrine Main Hall Mikami Shrine in Yasu City, Shiga It is said to have been founded during the era of the 7th Emperor Korei. It is located at the foot of Mt. Mikami, also known as Omi Fuji. The enshrined deity is Amano Mikage no Mikoto The main shrine was built in the late Kamakura period. Both the girder row and the beam space are gambrel-style with three rooms, and the ridge has chigi and bonito wood.
