One of Japan’s Three Most Scenic Spots “Miyajima”
Miyajima, which has been revered as the “Island of the Gods” since ancient times, is a historic island floating in the beautiful Seto Inland Sea.
Itsukushima Shrine is one of the three most scenic spots in Japan and was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.

The large torii gate, which is approximately 16 meters high, has no pillars buried in the ground, and stands only by its weight 60t.
The current one is the 9th generation, which was rebuilt in 1875.
This wooden torii gate is designated as a national important cultural property and is the tallest and largest in Japan.
Itsukushima Shrine looks completely different at low tide and at high tide.
I arrived at low tide and visited three times: at night and at high tide the next day.

宮島は、古来より「神の島」として崇められ、美しい瀬戸内海に浮かぶ歴史ある島です。
嚴島神社は日本三景の一つで1996年ユネスコ世界遺産に登録されました。

高さ約16ｍ大鳥居は、柱が地中に埋めておらず、約60ｔの重さのみで立っています。
現在のものは1875年に再建された9代目です。
国の重要文化財に指定される木造の鳥居で高さ、大きさともに日本一です。
嚴島神社は、干潮時と満潮時では全く違った表情を見せます。
干潮時に到着して夜のライトアップと、翌日の満潮の3回訪れました。
