While we continue walking towards the lake I am going to tell you about the place and its history: Villa Traful is a small tourist town in Argentine Patagonia. It is located within the Nahuel Huapi national park.

In the Mapuche language, traful or trafən leufü means “confluence of two rivers.” It has its root in the preposition traf which means “next to, attached to, next to”. It alludes to the confluence of the Traful and Limay rivers.

Villa Traful is located on the eastern slope of Andean Patagonia, the southernmost stretch of the Andes mountain range. The town itself is located on the southern bank of Lake Traful. Administratively it is in the southwest of the Argentine province of Neuquén; and in the Los Lagos department.

In relation to important localities, Villa Traful is 60 km northeast of Villa La Angostura, head of the department, 100 km north of Bariloche and 105 km south of San Martín de los Andes.

It was founded by Exequiel Bustillo when he was president of the National Parks Administration through a decree of November 30, 1936. It was then that the first subdivision was authorized and today November 30 is remembered as the anniversary of the town.

May 30, 1969 The Villa Traful Development Commission was created, governing the destinies of the Esteban Alejandro Gresznaryk communal entity. In 2007, the first elections were held for the position of president of the Development Commission. Omar Torres (Concertación) and Eduardo Dáttoli (MPN), until then normalizing delegate of the Commission, applied.

Beautiful view of the lake and the mountains behind. I’m tempted to go into the lake… I’m sure the water is very cold. Only for the brave.
