Explore Around Kyoto Japan|Izakaya|Shopping Streets Walking Tour |Things to do at Night|4K
Welcome back! We’re at Kawaramachi station right now, and we’re going to check out the coolest shopping street ever. It’s called Shin-Kyogoku Shopping Street, and it’s the oldest one in downtown Kyoto.
It runs for about half a kilometer between Sanjo-dori and Shijo-dori. You can find all kinds of stuff here, like theaters, movies, games, souvenirs and old-school shops. It’s pretty narrow, but there are a lot of people walking around. It’s super lively and fun.
There are also some temples and shrines mixed in with the shops, which makes it even more interesting. One of the highlights of the shopping street is Nishikitenmangu Shrine. It’s right in the middle of Shin-Kyogoku Shopping Street, and you can tell by the lanterns at the entrance.
At night, it gets really busy with tourists who want to see the sights. Nishikitenmangu Shrine is a place where you can pray for wisdom, learning, protection and luck. It’s over 1,000 years old, and it’s dedicated to Sugawara Michizane, who is also known as “Mr. Tenjin”, the god of learning.
He’s very popular in Kyoto, and he’s been worshipped here for a long time. You can go to the main hall and make your offering to the deity. At Nishikitenmangu Shrine, they also have monthly festivals (not just on the 25th, but also on the 1st and 15th).
They have a traditional music performance on May 25th. The Heian Gagakukai will showcase their martial arts and Enshu-ryu skills in November. They will also celebrate with flowers, drums and lion dances.
You can also get some of the famous “Nishiki Water” from the shrine. It’s groundwater that people fill up in plastic bottles and cans. There’s a sacred cow statue at the entrance that you can touch for good luck. The Shin-kyogoku-dori shopping street is always buzzing with visitors.
You can see foreigners and locals alike enjoying the shops. There were so many cool shops to see, from old-fashioned ones to hip ones. I noticed some vintage cafes and art galleries too. It was a lively shopping street with all kinds of shops that had been there for a long time.
And the best part was that the shopping streets had roofs over them, so we could shop even when it was raining. How awesome is that? We went through the Shinkyogoku Shopping Street and then checked out the shopping streets.
Teramachi Kyogoku Shopping Street is a lively and charming place to visit, right next to Sanjo Shopping Street. You can find all kinds of shops, cafes, restaurants and temples along this historic arcade. Whether you’re looking for souvenirs, snacks, fashion or culture, you’ll have a great time exploring this street.
We had a blast shopping at the famous streets of Kyoto, and then we started looking for a place to grab some food. 0:02:33.100,0:02:32.000 We crossed this cool bridge that called “Sanjoko Bridge”. In springtime, this is where the locals hang out and admire the cherry blossoms.
It’s weird, though, why is there a traffic light staring at the people on the bridge? The building on the right is awesome. It was designed by this architect named Tadao Ando and it was built in the 80s and 90s.
The idea behind it was to create a place where you can feel close to nature, watch the river, and explore the alleys of Kyoto. Even after 30 years, the building still looks amazing and fits in with its surroundings.
This is a huge river, the Kamogawa River. The bridge that connects the Kamogawa River to Sanjo Station is called Sanjo Bridge. On the other side is Sanjo Station. We were surprised to see so many tourists on the Kamogawa River at night.
Anyway, we’re starving, let’s just focus on finding a nice place to eat. We go to a Japanese izakaya for dinner. It is a cool place with black walls and wooden chairs. I get a beer and a snack to start with.
The snack is radish and fish cooked until they are soft and yummy. Then I have some sashimi, which is raw fish and seafood sliced thin and served cold. It looked so pretty on the plate, with different colors and shapes.
I try the octopus first. It is tender and juicy, and it tastes like the ocean. Let’s try the others. I dip it in some soy sauce, wasabi, and ginger to make it even more delicious. Next, I have some chicken ramen.
The noodles are nice and chewy, but there is not much of them. Finally, I had some grilled yellowtail. It was a small fish with soy sauce and sugar on it. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
The yellowtail was sweet and light, and it melted in my mouth. It had a hint of saltiness from the sea. It was a great dish to go with my drink. I had a lot of fun at the izakaya. It was a good way to enjoy Kyoto’s night life.
We boarded the Kyoto Subway to return after enjoying a delectable dinner. The Kyoto Municipal Subway has two lines: the Karasuma Line and the Tozai Line. They cross each other at Karasuma Oike Station and have 32 stations in total.
They are very useful for getting around Kyoto, whether you are a local or a visitor. The Karasuma Line goes from north to south along Karasuma Street. It has 15 stations and connects Kokusai Kaikan Station with Takeda Station. You can switch to other lines at several stations,
Such as Shijo Station for the Hankyu Line, Kyoto Station for the JR and Kintetsu Lines, and Takeda Station for the Kintetsu Line. You can also catch a bus at Kitaoji Station, where there is a big bus terminal.
The Karasuma Line is popular among students and workers, because it has many universities along the way and it can take you to Kyoto Station, the main hub of the city, or to the Hankyu Line, which goes to Osaka. It is one of the busiest lines in the Kansai area.
The Tozai Line goes from east to west along Oike Street. It has 17 stations and connects Taishoten Jingawa Station with Rokujizo Station in Uji City. The Tozai Line is not just a horizontal line, but it also goes south from Yamashina Station to Rokujizo Station.
All the stations on the Tozai Line have full-screen platform doors, and they are decorated with different colors. If you want to get around Kyoto, the East-West Line is a great option. It connects to many other lines, like the Randen (Keifuku Line) at Taishoten Jingawa Station,
The JR Line at Nijo Station, the Karasuma Line at Karasuma-Oike Station, the Keihan Line at Sanjo Keihan Station, the JR Line and Keihan Line (Keishin Line) at Yamashina Station, and the JR line at Rokujizo Station.
You can find some affordable places to live along this line, and many people choose to commute from here. A convenient way to travel around Kyoto is by using the subway from Karasuma-Oike Station, which connects to many other stations. The subway fare in Kyoto is based on the distance traveled.
The shortest distance is up to 3 kilometers and costs 220 yen in Zone 1. The longest distance is more than 15 kilometers and costs 390 yen in Zone 5.
If you are planning to visit Kyoto, Japan, and want to explore its rich cultural and historical attractions, you might want to consider getting a Kyoto Subway 1-day pass.
You can buy the pass at any subway station in Kyoto for 800 yen (about 5 US dollars) for adults and 300 yen for children. The pass is valid from the first train to the last train of the day, and covers both the Karasuma Line and the Tozai Line.
With the Kyoto Subway 1-day pass, you can save money and time on transportation, and enjoy the beauty and charm of Kyoto at your own pace. Today we visited Arashiyama and Saga for a whole day.
Arashiyama and Saga are also not far from the city center, so they are a hidden gem in Kyoto. We spent a day exploring the hidden gems of Arashiyama and Saga. (Episodes 13-16) It’s a great way to end the day.
Our journey in Kyoto will take us to a different area of the city tomorrow: the Higashiyama District. This is one of the most historic and scenic parts of Kyoto, where we can explore ancient temples, gardens, and streets. Don’t miss the next episode where we explore the unique charm of Kyoto!
