In July 2018, the Sakitsu Village in Amakusa was registered as a World Cultural Heritage Site as one of the Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki and Amakusa Regions.

This area has deep historical ties to Christian faith and culture, and there are many places that remain that remind us of the faith of those days.

One of the tourist attractions is the “Statue of Mary at Sea” , which stands at the tip of the cape on the west side of the village, facing the sea. The statue of Mary was built with the cooperation of many people to protect the safety of ships traveling on the seas.

At the end of the fishing port, there is an observation deck where you can admire the statue of Mary. From February to March and September to October, you can watch the sun set over the statue of Mary from the observation deck.

The scene is so beautiful that it has been selected as one of Amakusa’s top eight sunset views as the “Sunset over the Statue of Mary”. This time, the purpose is this sunset. Seabirds also joined us and we were able to photograph a very beautiful sunset. Please enjoy.
