Ehime’s 2-Star Sushi Restaurant Where Ingredients Shine Japan’s oldest hot spring resort This is J. We have moved to Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture. Matsuyama is this part of Japan It is the capital of Ehime Prefecture and the largest city in Shikoku.

I introduce delicious travel throughout Japan. Please subscribe to our channel ❤️ A former castle town that developed around Matsuyama Castle It is also a hot spring resort famous for Dogo Onsen and other hot springs.

It is also a literary town associated with the haiku poet Shiki Masaoka and the writer Soseki Natsume. Today’s lodging is this hotel. It is a beautiful hotel. The rate is 11,600 yen per night for a twin room. The room looks quite cozy. A sofa and a table are a nice touch.

The view is also nice. Toilet and bath are normally clean The pajamas are soft and denim-like, which I liked. By the way, of course, there is a hot spring. It’s a natural hot spring in Okudougo, and is said to rejuvenate and beautify the skin.

We are going to a sushi restaurant for dinner, but until then, I’m going to do a little sightseeing. Wow, it’s exciting! Orange Passing each other I saw a nice one! I saw a good one! Yes, Matsuyama is a streetcar town. The streetcars of Iyo Railway, the second oldest private railroad company in Japan

In addition to the loop line around Matsuyama Castle, the streetcars extend as far as Dogo Onsen (hot springs). That sound! Wow! Uncle S loves streetcars.lol We thought about going to the ropeway, but the time was delicate. We decided to continue on to Dogo Onsen.

It takes about 15 minutes from here to Dogo Onsen. We’ll take a route like this. There are several local trains that promote local specialties. This is a train to promote Matsuyama’s famous confectionery, Ichiroku Tart. The inside of the train is full of advertisements for tarts.

It’s fun to take a streetcar with a view of the city. The fare is a flat rate, 180 yen per adult at this time. But from October 1, 2023, the fare had been raised to 200 yen per adult. We have arrived. You can get off from both doors. 360 yen(for 2 person).

The fare is paid when you get off the bus. We got on this train. This is a tart train. This is a tart train. He said it twice because it’s important.lol It was a tart train. Now, let’s walk through the streets of Dogo Onsen.

This station building is a restoration of the old station building built in 1911 It has the appearance of Western-style architecture from the Meiji era, and is illuminated at night. This shopping street leads from the station to the Dogo Onsen Honkan.

The “Matsuyama Dogo Autumn Festival” held in October is coming soon, so there was a Mikoshi(portable shrine). It is a big shopping street like a tourist spot. Occasionally, I passed people in yukata (light cotton kimono). They must have come out of the onsen in their yukata.

This is indeed a hot spring resort area. You are allowed to walk around in yukata after taking a bath. This is the Ichiroku Tart store that was advertised earlier. Amazing. Fantastic. 15 Mangoku (15 Million Stone) It seems to be one of the biggest souvenir shops in Dogo Onsen.

Isn’t this a store we’ve been to before? We have been to this one before! Actually, it was the Imabari Towel store we visited near the ropeway earlier. I guess most of the famous stores in Matsuyama are located here. Wow, what’s this? I can’t see the whole picture!

It looks like a big piece of art. It was an initiative called Dogo Art 2023. It’s the work of an artist named Emmanuel Mouhot. We thought we would try this footbath. Footbath, it’s a cold spring, though. Is it cold?

Maybe because it was hot just a little while ago, it was still a cold spring here. It was cold that day, so we gave up. There are a lot of footbaths around here, If you dig, you can get hot water. It’s amazing who discovered that hot springs boil here. It’s true.

Are you elementary school students? lol Look. That was the renovation. The giant artwork we saw earlier was on the back side of this building. The scaffolding for the renovation was covered with art. That’s amazing. Look at this. It’s for the imperial family.

The Matashinden was built in 1899 and is the only bathroom for the Imperial Family in Japan. If you make a reservation, you can see the luxurious interior and the Meiji-era baths. This is the famous Dogo Onsen Honkan.

It is a national important cultural property and has been awarded three stars in the Michelin Green Guide. This hot spring was the setting for the movie “Spirited Away.“ We were told that we had to wait about 30 minutes before we could enter the hot spring, so we gave up on the idea.

There seems to be a footbath up there, so I’ll go there. This shrine was built by the order of the 12th Emperor Keiko to protect the hot spring So that’s what the sky walkway is all about. Indeed. Indeed, it is a walkway in the sky. The slope is a little bit steep.

It looks like we’ve arrived. Is this where the skywalk ends? There was. A footbath. Can I enter without permission? It was a footbath that you could enter for free. There was also a changing room. You may be wearing tights, you know…. We have to wait for our turn to get in…

After waiting for about 15 minutes, it’s finally our turn! This feels good. This feels great. Doesn’t it feel good? It feels really good. The temperature was a little hot, but it felt great. The view was also great.

Dogo Onsen is said to be the oldest hot spring in Japan and one of the three oldest hot springs in Japan. It is mentioned in the Manyoshu (The Anthology of Myriad Leaves) and also in Soseki Natsume’s novel “Bo-chan”.

It is a geothermal hot spring and is said to be effective for rheumatism and sensitivity to cold. We were lucky that we had towels that we bought earlier, For those who didn’t have a towel, there was a vending machine that sold towels. It’s getting hot, so it’s time to get out.

There was a place to cool off after taking a bath. The sunset just as we were about to leave. Thank you very much for letting us have such a good time for free. Now, let’s walk around Dogo some more.

Just past the shopping street you just passed, you’ll find a place like this. Many artworks were on display at Dogo during this period, and the courtyard here was covered with the works of photographer Mika Ninagawa.

Apparently, this is an attempt to liven up Dogo while the Dogo Onsen Honkan is being renovated. It would look great in a photo. Now, it’s time to head back to the center of the city We are back to Daimaido. This is a huge shopping street with a total length of 483 meters.

It is said to be one of the most famous shopping streets in Matsuyama. We still have some time left, so we’re going to stop by Mitsukoshi for a while. Oh, the Mikoshi(portable shrine) I saw earlier is here too. Do you think there is a relationship between the Mikoshi and Mitsukoshi?

I don’t think so.lol MitsukoMikoshi.lol This was also a mikoshi on display for the Matsuyama Autumn Festival. There is a tourist center here, and there was an interesting display. There are spots that the locals want to tell tourists about. For example, a place they want to teach: the oasis of the Asagimadara butterfly.

Who they want to teach: All of mankind.lol I will try to visit there someday. We walked around the shopping street for a while and came back to Mitsukoshi again. I found the Mikoshi I saw earlier outside. It must have been a rehearsal for the Autumn Festival.

Matsuyama’s Autumn Festival is said to be a spectacular festival in which eight portable shrines from eight different towns gather in front of Dogo Onsen Station on October 7, and collide with each other. It is also called “KENKAI MIKOSHI” (fighting portable shrines).

Looking at these guys, I think I can understand what they are talking about .lol Oh, it looks like it’s moving. Cool! Did they carry it to somewhere? I thought so They came right back. I knew it was a practice. What a nice thing to see.

I hope to come and see the real festival someday. Well, it’s about time. Dinner is at this restaurant a short walk from the Oomachi-michi shopping street. This nice restaurant with a beautiful gate is a Michelin-starred sushi restaurant. The inside of the restaurant is also very nice.

After a short wait, we were shown to our table. First of all, I ordered a craft beer from Ehime. The Head Chef came to each seat to greet us, and the atmosphere started in a friendly way.

The Head Chef is the youngest person in Japan to win 2 stars at the age of 27. He is so young that at first I thought he was his apprentice.lol Lobsters from his hometown, Cape Sada. The ban on lobster fishing has just been lifted this September.

It is cooked over a charcoal fire with oil and slowly heated to a high temperature. It was an exquisite dish right off the bat. It was an exquisite dish right off the bat. The broth made from the lobster and red sea urchin.

The dish was made without using any seasonings, but only using the minerals from the lobster. White sea bream from Yawatahama. Lightly grilled over charcoal Lightly cooked over a charcoal fire Order sake. Sake called “AI(Love)” by Ishizuchi Shuzo. It is the AI of LOVE

Restaurant personnel in Matsuyama and Imabari 30 restaurants are involved in the production of this sake involved in the production of this sake. This is a project to offer this sake only at the stores involved in its production. We do not sell it at retail. You can’t buy it. It’s great.

Fruity, but it goes better with food. I would drink it in gulps! The salt used to dip this sea bream is from Enjiro in Kochi. It is a special salt that costs 16,000 yen for 100 grams. Sun returned bonito seared over charcoal with iriboshi, myoga and green onion.

The skin is crispy and the lean meat is moist with various textures. It was a delicious bonito with no fishy smell at all. Abalone from the local island of Futagami. Slowly steamed for 6 hours without using any seasonings. Served with liver sauce. “Please leave a little bit of the liver sauce.“

The liver sauce was sweet and meltingly delicious. Put this vinegared rice in the leftover liver sauce. Is there any other food that makes you so happy? The next sake was also from Ehime, Kawakame. Junmai Ginjo Hiyoroshi He insist on local products for both ingredients and sake.

It is also wonderful that they always cook in a way that allows the ingredients to shine. Kinmedai (sea bream) caught off the coast of Kochi Smoked with straw and finished over charcoal. The crispy skin was irresistibly delicious. Steamed egg custard crab from the Shimanto River in Kochi.

It is said to be closely related to the Shanghai crab and tastes just like it. The rice was at the bottom. Nigiri of Kue fish from Ainan Town. I really liked this vinegared rice. Ara no nigiri Sake made with local rice called Matsuyama Mitsui We’re beaten! We’re beaten! It’s so delicious, we’re beaten.

Nigiri squid. Mmmm! Bliss!lol Nigiri of kanpachi (yellowtail) that has been sitting for 6 days. Tuna nigiri from Cape Erimo. This is not from Ehime, but it’s OK because it’s delicious.lol Here it comes! Toro no nigiri. This was also excellent. Migratory crab wrapped in dried laver

No seasoning, just the taste of crab. Just steamed crab. The flavors of the crab, nori, and rice all blended together deliciously. Kohada Nigiri Hot! Hot! Donburi of ayu fish caught in the local Odamiyama area. The heat was just right and it was irresistibly delicious. Tiger Prawn Nigiri And my favorite.

Futagami Island red sea urchin gunkan. Peeled and rinsed in water, then laid out for 4 days. Oh no, oh no, oh no! less vocabulary.lol Tea is served Anago nigiri The softness of the conger eel melds with the rice. miso soup And finished with a sweet omelette. It was the most delicious.

The bill was 55,000 yen for the two of us. GOCHISOSAMA, thank you for the meal. One more sushi restaurant I love. See you again in the next video. Thank you for watching! Please subscribe and rate our channel!
