【京都散歩】フレンチなランチと老舗和菓子屋|京大のレトロ建築巡り

Hello KYOTO . Today, I came to Kyoto University. We will take a walk around modern architecture near Kyoto University’s Yoshida Campus, have a French-style lunch, and introduce shops that sell souvenirs and Japanese sweets unique to Kyoto. I hope you enjoy it until the end, feeling like a tourist.

We will visit the Kyoto University Centennial Clock Tower Memorial Hall. The clock tower, which was built in 1925 (Taisho 14), was developed in 2003 as a place for academic exchange as part of the 100th anniversary of its founding. It seems that the exterior and interior atmosphere have remained as they were back then.

You can feel the history. The stylish French restaurant inside the clock tower is also popular. They even have live music sometimes. Unfortunately, I have a day off today…I look forward to seeing you next time.

There is a magnificent camphor tree in front of you🌳 It seems to be a meeting spot for university students. Perhaps reflecting the liberal academic culture, there seems to be a mix of buildings from a wide variety of eras and styles.

The red brick student section has a retro atmosphere, and was completed in 1889. It is the oldest existing building at Kyoto University, and is also known as the “Nobel Prize House” because Nobel Prize winner Hideki Yukawa and others conducted research here. Student bicycles crisscross the campus lined with brick-colored school buildings.

Truly a bicycle kingdom! Located almost in the middle of the campus, the Faculty of Law and Economics main building has a different charm from other Kyoto University buildings, and has a very modern atmosphere. The corridor leading to the school building is also very nice. Ginkgo is very bright.

Anyone can enter the campus freely, so it’s fun to take a walk. I came to a corner on the north side of campus, where the engineering buildings are lined up. This is also a stylish brick school building.

It has a beautiful symmetrical shape. The red brick and white granite stand out against the blue sky. This two-story brick building was built in 1919 and designed by Jihei Yamamoto and Kurumi Nagase. We recommend visiting from late November to early December, when the trees turn beautiful colors.

The original “Faculty of Engineering Architecture Department Main Building” was completed in 1923. It is said to be Kyoto University’s first reinforced concrete building without a tiled roof. The rounded center part is elegant. There were many students on school trips and tourists from overseas, and

On this day I saw a large number of high school students as well. The Faculty of Literature Exhibition Hall was completed in 1911. It is one of the representative buildings of the Kyoto Imperial University expansion period. When I visited Kyoto University Architecture this time, I prepared in advance💪, and

When I unraveled the history and design, I felt that the scenery that was familiar to me would appear in a different way. It has an elegant appearance, like a mansion of a noble family. Learning about campus life in such a wonderful group of buildings must be very meaningful☺The

Last building on the main campus is Sonjodo. As the name of the building suggests, it was originally built by Yajiro Shinagawa, a member of the Choshu clan, to enshrine the spirits of the Meiji Restoration patriots, and was donated to Kyoto University after his death.

It was completed in 1902 and is registered as a tangible cultural property. Now, I’m hungry, so let’s head out for lunch. There is a beautiful tree-lined path in front of the gate. The rows of colored ginkgo trees are beautiful ~ Today we

Will visit the cafe “Les Deux Garcons a L’ institut” on the first floor of “Institut Français Kansai”. The building was built in 1936 and is designated as a registered tangible cultural property of the country. This is a restaurant where you can enjoy authentic French flavors in a casual style.

The atmosphere feels like Paris everywhere. The cork objects are also said to be master works. So cute~❤The interior is very bright with white walls and high ceilings. There is a sense of openness. While ordering Set B, we each chose a different main dish.Today ‘s dessert was “autumn leaves mousse and ice cream”. fun.

The staff are French. The explanation was very easy to understand in Japanese. Baguette set🥖. delicious! The main dishes, “Sautéed Pork Shoulder Loin”, “Chicken Thigh Braised in Vinegar”, and “Kainomi Steak” arrived🍴We shared some of them. All delicious. Beef is full of flavor. Each one is very delicious with the balsamic and red wine sauces.

The scent of tea is soft. Served with caramel sauce. It was delicious, thank you for the meal! This day was sunny, then rainy, then sunny. It really was a fox’s marriage… I took a little detour to buy some souvenirs♪

“Ryokujuan Shimizu” was founded in 1847 (Koka 4). This is the only konpeito specialty store in Japan. Apparently there is no recipe for making konpeito. Beautiful confetti made with great care, one by one. Limited quantity “Konpeito Cacao” sold out immediately. There are apparently over 60 flavors, ranging from standard items to seasonal items. I purchased several. Please enjoy each grain carefully. Next, I headed to another store to buy some sweets.

We arrived! This is “Ajarimochi Honpo Kyoto Confectionery Mangetsu”. A long-established Japanese confectionery shop founded in 1856. I love their signature product, “Ajari Mochi.” A bright, open interior. The setting of the store is also nice. The moist dough containing mochi flour and the relatively light filling inside are exquisite.

When I can’t go to the main store, I buy at Daimaru or Isetan, but there are long lines at both places. We recommend purchasing early. You can also enjoy freshly made Ajari mochi in this space. Mangetsu’s New Year’s decorations are spectacular. It’s definitely worth visiting at least once.

Enjoy Ajari and Konpeito at home. !(^^)! Now, the Kyoto University architecture tour has resumed. This time, we will head to the northern campus. The row of ginkgo trees on the northern campus is also beautiful. This is a recommended area. This “Old Training Forest Office” was built in 1930 and

Is one of the distinctive buildings on the northern campus. In 1998, it was registered as a registered tangible cultural property building. It is a bungalow-style wooden building with a Spanish tiled roof and a veranda, giving the impression of a building full of warmth and the freshness of modernism.

Currently used as a university-wide shared space, the last one is the East Asian Humanities and Informatics Research Center , a research facility attached to the Institute of Humanities designed by Goichi Takeda in 1930. This is also designated as a registered tangible cultural property. Beautiful retro architecture that resembles a medieval European monastery.

The delicate decorations on the chalk walls are beautiful. Kyoto University architecture had an overwhelming presence, befitting a top academic institution. It’s great to be able to learn in buildings like this. I felt like I was back in college and enjoyed walking around the campus☺Thank
