Staying at Japan’s Container Hotel | HOTEL R9 The Yard 🏨
Hi, everyone! Today we start from Kyoto Station. This time, I would like to stay at a very unique hotel called Container Hotel, which has been increasing in Japan recently. By the way, foreign tourists have returned to Kyoto. Hungry before heading to the hotel. Tenka-Ippin (天下一品)
The restaurant’s ramen has a unique flavor that even Japanese people have different likes and dislikes. you can choose the weight of soup from “Kotteri” to “Assari” in Tenka-Ippin. “Kotteri” means heavy. “Assari” means light. I ordered the ramen and chahan (Chinese-style fried rice). “Kotteri” Chahan It is pork bone flavor.
Thank you for the meal. When you eat ramen, a message from the restaurant appears. I’ll be waiting for you tomorrow. it says. With our stomachs full, we headed for Kyoto Station. Before I get on the train, I will buy some snacks to eat at the hotel.
Many kinds of souvenir snacks are sold at Kyoto Station. Yes, this is also sweet. I decided on this beautifully wrapped box. I will show you what is inside after we get to the hotel. Stay tuned. I like this wrapping. Kyoto is also famous for incense, and there are many such stores.
The store is filled with beautiful incense and smells like good incense! The hotel we are staying at today is located in Notogawa City in Shiga Prefecture. It took 40 mins from Kyoto Station to get to Notogawa city. Today, I’m going to stay in a little different kind of hotel.
It is hotel made with containers. Can you imagine what it would be like? Shiga Prefecture has cooler temperatures than Kyoto. There is still a little snow here and there. After 40mins ride. Arrived at Notogawa Station The quality of the iPhone camera is seriously amazing.
Some Japanese train stations have pianos, and some YouTubers sometimes perform impromptu live shows. Me? Not today. Oh, there’s still quite a bit of snow left after all. It seems to have fallen quite a bit a week before the shooting day. Now, from this station, we will take a cab to the hotel.
Now, from this station, we will take a cab to the hotel. Now, from this station, we will take a cab to the hotel. The reason is to prevent the handle from slipping due to sweat and to make the pointing confirmation easier on the eyes.
Most cab drivers in Japan wear white gloves like him. It is professionalism to try to drive safely. It seems we arrived at the hotel! Wow HOTEL R9 The Yard There are parking lot and containers. The reception is also made of containers. Check-in is the same as in a regular hotel, with human staff.
Check-in completed Let’s head to my container room. It’s like one scene from Jurassic Park. Wow, it’s very overwhelming. Hotel R9 The Yard has 73 locations throughout Japan, and they are adding more and more.
According to the staff, since the container is only a vehicle body, it is not restricted by building codes and other regulations, making it possible to build a hotel very inexpensively. My room is here. Yes, it is a very hotel room. Stunning. Looks like the room of a college student living alone in Tokyo.
This room is approximately 13 square meters. A Simmons double bed fits in with room to spare. Mirror Hangers State-of-the-art air purifier and humidifier Micro container in a container Mini freezer in a container Larger refrigerator in a container 1L electric kettle Pink dryer Light saver Relax and work place Chair for gamers Power outlet
Inside a container, but air-conditioned. 40 inch LCD TV Flat table Thin light Wait,, Love letter You can also see the view out of the container. Windows can be opened and closed. Wi-Fi is available. Not bad. I wonder what the toilets and bathrooms in the containers would be like. Absolutely perfect bath & toilet
Absolutely perfect white High-tech toilet OMOTENASHI style Slightly expensive body soap, shampoo and conditioner Now that the room tour is over, let’s check out the exterior of the container! Above the entrance door is a curtain to keep out the rain. Buzzer Outdoor lamp There is a big gap between containers.
We can sing and dance as much as they like in the room without worrying about disturbing the people in the next room. We came to the back side of the container. This is the outdoor unit of an air conditioner. These are systems for boiling water and gas cylinders.
The container itself isn’t hammered into the ground, it’s held in place by some pipes as feet. And to allow for relocation or expansion of this hotel at any time, tires are left attached to each container. It’s got a license plate, too. Vending machine container This is also inside a container. No Red Bull.
Laundry container These are fully automatic washing machine, from washing to drying, without the need for detergent. Go to the reception container to get amenities. We can get one free light meal here. You can choose from pasta and fried rice frozen foods. Let’s choose tomorrow’s breakfast from here. Free vebarages
Oh, I can smell the nice jasmine tea. Let’s go back to the room and have a tea party with jasmine tea and snacks bought at Kyoto station. Beautifully wrapped. Beautifully box. Wow, the level of detail and precision in this traditional craft is simply amazing. Let’s start with this cherry blossom.
It’s very hard to believe it’s food. This is sugar kneaded into the gelatin, making it sweet and delicious. In addition, there is also red bean paste inside. It’s a perfect tea party in a container. Green checkered pattern with flowers It’s sweet and tasty too. I’ll have the rest later.
Relax time inside a container I was worried about the insulation performance of the walls since it is a container, but they completely block out the cold outside. Dinner time The atmosphere is unique at night. The snow hasn’t melted at all.
The hotel staff told me that it snowed heavily two weeks ago and there was quite a bit of snow in this area. They also got a lot of snow on the roof of the container. Spending a day in a snow-filled container could be a great experience.
This area is relatively suburban, so it is quite dark at night. However, in Japan, where it is safe to be alone at night, you are unlikely to encounter any trouble. The restaurant where we will have dinner today is in sight. Marugame Seimen Japanese famouse Udon noodles chain
The restaurant was founded in 2000 in the city of Marugame, Kagawa Prefecture, which is known for its udon noodles. At Marugame Seimen, customers can watch as the skilled chefs prepare their noodles from scratch, kneading and cutting the dough before boiling it in hot water.
The noodles are served hot and fresh, and customers can choose from a variety of toppings and broth options to create their own perfect bowl of udon. One interesting fact is that Marugame Seimen has opened stores all over the world, but the store with the highest sales is the Waikiki store in Hawaii.
Yakitate Beef Udon Tempura (Chicken, Chikuwa and Lotus root) I will start with Chicken Tempura. Dip into Yakiniku Beef Udon to make it even better! Honestly, this is the best noodle I’ve ever had.
Japanese udon is generally light in flavor, but I love the rich taste of this udon because of the yakiniku beef in it. Chikuwa Tempura It’s also good. Tempura is a popular Japanese dish in which food (most commonly seafood, vegetables, or sushi) is lightly battered and deep fried to create a light, crispy coating.
Lotus root tempura. Thank you for good meal. I think there are a little more cars staying there somehow. I love this view. I came back to my container. Now it’s time to take a bath. Now, will the shower in the container run water properly? No problem at all.
And the water is properly hot. It’s late night. See you tomorrow. Good morning. I slept very well in the container. Looks perfect weather. Let’s get a light meal for breakfast. Which one should I choose? bolognese pasta Of course, it’s frozen solid, so use a microwave oven to cook it. Hot!
As you can see, it is so hot that it almost burns. I brought a spoon by mistake…. Oh, it’s hard to eat Dig in Now let’s check out. Thanks for comfortable container room. Once again, I don’t think this looks like a hotel hallway at all. It was a good experience.
Japan has a good transportation infrastructure, even in relatively rural areas, so it is really easy to have valuable experiences in various places. Now that we finally have more signs in English and Google Maps, I hope that foreigners will visit other wonderful Japanese cities besides Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto. Thanks for Watching

Those hotels are a great idea.
Shipping containers as rooms is such a fun idea. And that full meal of udon being only $8?! In the UK it would be £15!
