[Singing] Good morning from sunny Cairns today I will be taking you on a very nice journey of some of the most scenic places that Cairns and Queensland or the greater Queensland has to offer firstly we’ll be doing the skyrail over the forest amazing views so please stay tuned for that

And I’ll walk you through the process  of how to go there and jump on the skyrail and then you’ll be shocked at some of the views that  you see of the forest and then after that we’re doing the famous Kuranda Scenic Railway route on a train and coming back into Cairns

this is about a 6 or 7 hour day so we have a whole timetable lined up stick with me get some ideas for your next holiday  and don’t discount Cairns because Cairns is a great place it has the beach

And it has the wildlife and it has he mountains  and the actual scenery with the cliff faces and the gorges and everything else that it has  to offer so come with me and let’s enjoy today   I’m here at Gilligans, which is one of the more  prominent hostels and bars here in Cairns

They’ve got a little lagoon out the back and they’ve  got these awesome cabanas where you can come along and chill out and I guess you can probably  hire them for the day and they’ve got a DJ booth there as well so it’s turning into a little bit of a Las Vegas here

looks pretty good and behind me is the bar that’s where all the action happens  and that’s where you come in from off the street   pretty good, I’ve been here a few times, there’s a tree in the middle there, it’s good they didn’t cut that down they’ve left that there it’s still alive

I’ll get a little bit closer it’s a pretty cool spot although the age of its patrons is probably 18 to  the the 20s if you’re a little bit older it’s probably not the place that you’d want to hang out there’s also a DJ booth up here I remember coming here when I was younger

And they’ve got all all sorts of activities they’ve got like a… music bingo and all that type of stuff all the stuff that the young people like I’ll go down the stairs here give you another view got a waterfall there or a water feature the beds here

And right behind it is the Gilligan’s  Market sorry the Rusty’s Market it’s just right there…back on to it so they’ve added in some cabanas it looks good over here we’ve got uh…what have we got here?   Got a seating place people  can sit down eat and drink

And I’d say the main feature is this area here…the lagoon which looks pretty good actually I don’t recall it being this good but it’s gotten better so…very appealing to the young people and up here is the bar good morning so that’s the tour of Gilligans

We’ve got billiard tables over here as well in the entry section darts so it’s pretty good they put a lot of effort into this place it’s a good place to stay if you’re uh in your youth got some seats as well…here as well gets pretty busy…and in here

Is the bar…the extended bar from the other  area that comes across here I’m just here because I’m waiting for my transport to the skyrail  it’s going to pick me up the front from Gilligans

And it’s going to take me to…straight to the  skyrail and then I’ll be able to show you some good footage there    and from there I end up in  the Kuranda village where I will spend a bit of time and then I’ll catch the the scenic route on  the historic train back to Cairns

And that should take a few hours  look at this…this is the selfie centre here the seat with the Gilligan sign while waiting for my transport to the skyrail it’s  interesting what you come across here in Cairns right there right behind me is a tribute to the  Chinese community in Cairns

Apparently the Chinese community have been here since the 1880s and there was a temple that was built here in the late 1880s   like this is fascinating no one would have ever  thought that there would have been a Chinatown in Cairns but there actually was and there’s  there’s a bunch of great photos there

Come and have a look at the boards and have a good  read it’s pretty interesting I think my van’s coming so we’re here at the skyrail centre  and I’m just in line it’s quite busy they’re the gondolas that we are going  to use to go up to the top of the mountain

Very busy…we will be seeing the Red  Peak which is up there today and the Barron Falls so there’s two main lookouts  or areas that we’ll visit using the gondalas just had a fantastic skyrail journey over the beautiful  rainforest it’s amazing

I actually do recommend that everybody come out and do the skyrail over the beautiful rainforest it’s very calming and very educational at the same time there’s a speaker that plays in the actual Gondola  and it talks about the history of the rainforest  and now I’m walking through the rainforest

It’s fascinating very green, very cool this is called the boardwalk and the boardwalk   is a series of timber flooring which dives  right into the forest and you can hear all   the birds and kind of takein all the beautiful  smells that exist and there’s some nice views   over here which I’ll show you shortly

I’ve done this tour before but I’m doing it again because   it was I had such a great time last time  and it’s much busier this time because the   last time I did do it, it was right after  the shutdown period and now there’s more tourists as you can see there’s the forest in the background

I can hear a lot of chirping and it’s very cool here even though it’s a hot day look at the denseness and the luscious green color of the forest so I finished up at the boardwalk I’m in the gondola I’m on my own I was lucky enough to  grab a gondola just for myself

When it is a busy period you do need to share the gondolas so that’s just life life is all about sharing   it’s not so busy on this second leg so here I  am on the Gondola look at that view, it’s about another 5km to Kuranda

And that’s where we’re going I just want to give you some facts about the rainforest apparently some of the trees  in this rainforest are hundreds and thousands years old can you believe that? Predating humankind probably from the time of the dinosaurs

Not sure which period of dinosaurs and another  kind of fact for those Hollywood buffs and movie buffs is the fact that David Cameron  the director of the movie Avatar was inspired   to make the movie based on what he saw here in  the rainforest in Cairns   it is pretty inspiring

When you come out into nature it does inspire  you but when you come into the rainforest it’s even more inspiring, you know, looking back and  and seeing how these plants have survived for so long   as well as the trees and how it kind of  maintains its own ecosystem and whatever happens down there

Has been happening for hundreds and  thousands of years and that’s fascinating the windows are open in the gondola so you’re  taking in the fresh air and you can hear the silence of the forest the silence is actually deafening life is good, get up to Cairns and enjoy this hello and welcome to Australia

I arrive at the Cairns Skyrail Rainforest Cableway and the views are breath taking! I took the time to take alot of video, photos and even learn about the amazing history of the rainforest. There are two stops along the way in Red peak and Barron Falls where tyou can disembark and walk in the rainforest. During my journey I bumped in to two new friends. One from japan and the other from Korea! We had a great conversation and laughs along the way to Kuranda. What a great day! I hope you enjoy my Cairns vlog.
