Why You Should Get Out Of Seoul 🇰🇷

All right good morning everyone from another  lovely day here in South Korea now right now   we’ve come to abai Village a village that was  formed by North Korean refugees during the   Korean War so we’re overlooking it here this  whole area there is actually like a tourist  

Pulley boat you can get across the river to get  here but we just walked over this bridge and to   be honest it’s quite nice you get a view of the  surroundings the mountains and whatnot so we’re   going to head straight into the village get  some tasty breakfast and then we’ll see what  

Happens from there let’s go immediately though  it looks pretty cool does it you see we got some   little Alleyways old shops let’s go so we’ll  get straight into this we’ll start in one of   these little alleys we’ll try and find the Main  Street where I’m guessing there’s going to be  

Loads of little restaurants places to eat  but it’s pretty cool isn’t it look at this   so we’re straight in here in a monst a little  Alleyways and it is really cool it almost feels   like a bloody 1950s Korean time warp you know  it’s chilled out just these small houses look  

At this its dead there’s that one here we’ll  just have a look around and I hello she were   cute doing a bit of um washing up smiley smiley  old lady now I believe so the people who came  

In the war the North Korean people obviously  that was like how how long ago was that like   70 years ago so I don’t reckon many if any of  those people are still here but I guess the   descendants are still the people knocking around  proper little piece of History here look at this

House all let’s get some food cuz we’re hungry  and I think we know have a good dish to eat,   a classic okay now we’re talking this has got to  be the main street that runs through Abai village  

With all the restaurants and shops and whatnot  on now I’m just going to show you something here   this place is famous for well known for the squid  Sundae which we will try today it might not be  

In here but we will try it while we’re here got  some Korean army lads, where are we are you can   see just pictures full of delicious looking  food you we got normal Sunday abai sundae I   think we’re going to get some cold noodles they  also do crab noodles let’s find our restaurant  

Let’s pick we’ve got a lot of choice haven’t we  look so much in here too much choice I know and   everywhere everywhere’s selling the same thing  to be fair what’s this so you got so much Choice  

Worthy to choose I think we’re going to head into  this one cuz I’ve just seen the lot of shoes at   the door you take your shoes off and go in looks  like a classic we’ve got some nice pictures let’s  

Go for it leesh so there we go slip our boots  off and I say and in we go oh she’s bringing   out some food there looks really good it smells  fantastic this second you walk in it what do we  

Do do we just sit down ourself or do we wait I  say do we just sit okay okay there something right   here we go or should we sit in here is it should  we sit here should we sit on the end one okay it’s  

Freezing out there but in here it’s toasty and  warm so is the menu oh the menu is on the wall   here okay we will translate the menu and have  a look don’t worry it’s okay there pictures up  

There I think we know what we’re going to get here  you go two okay so we’ve done it it’s something   about eating with the shoes off that just makes  it a lot better and cosier I don’t know what it  

Is it’s just nice to have your shoes off so they  actually brought out another menu and we’ve gone   for where is it the cold buckwheat noodles with  raw pollock so raw Pollock um spiced with the  

Korean chili paste the gochujang this is going  to be good wow that looks so good oh wow how good   does this look this looks absolutely incredible so  cuz some need a what’s this like a little pot of  

Tea right so here we got on Naengmyon now this  is actually a North Korean summer cold noodle   dish so what better place to try this in that  Abai Village this looks incredible so let’s get   some Chopsticks so in the side door you always  get your chopsticks in your spoon there you go  

Leesh you and then the Chopsticks where are  they let’s get some out oh got three get one more okay it looks very delicious  delicious you not mix the pure   small cut mix okay put this in here what this half

Half okay oh wow we just found out this is  actually a cold broth top up it’s just like   ice water that we can throw in if we want some  more soup all right so I’ll show you what’s in  

Here this I can’t believe how good this looks  so these are 9,000 each and in here we have got   we’ve got literal chunks of ice can try and get  one of those out look at that I can’t but but  

You can see literal chunks of ice we got the egg  on the top the sesame seeds we got the gochujang   the Korean spicy chili paste we’ve got Korean  Asian pear what else have we got the buckwheat  

Noodles underneath I’m going to mix it this in a  minute and then we’ve got this dried raw Pollock   that’s again flavored with the gochujang the  chili paste that looks incredible and then we   got a little side of kimchi and we’ve got beef  is that beef oh my goodness me that’s a decent  

Slice of beef this looks incredible smells so  looks like heaven does it so let’s give this   a mix oh we need to mix all those ingredients  together how good does this look that slice of   meat looks fantastic oh but yeah the noodles are  really stiff they’re going to need snipping but  

It’s all right because this dish always comes  with a pair of Scissors because the noodles   are always served super long these buckwheat  noodles so we give it a Big Snip through the   middle God it’s a mess this is it snip them up  otherwise you’re not going to be able to eat them

And then we can now mix it up let’s try gosh  I might have to cut back this is going to be   too hard to do while I was filming but yeah  you get the point we’re going to mix this  

All together looks good Leesh bloody nearly  done it I about to like get my Chopsticks get   in there it looks yummy though we finally  done it mixed it all up it looks fantastic   look at that ice cube floating about so  we can top it up with broth whenever we  

Need if it’s going a bit dry but should we  try it yeah let’s go go for it what’s it like really delicious not refreshing well  good so let’s get some of the meat look at that oh that’s good like dense meat  get some of the pear the Asian pear  

Super fresh just trying everything in let’s  get some this bloody [Music] pollock that’s   so good not too fishy nice and light  it’s cold spicy refreshing let’s get   some noodles as well got to get a bit of  everything there’s also cucumber in here cheers so good noodles are

Chewy the buckwheat noodles are hard to  chew to that’s why people snip them up   cuz like you really have to like bite  them like four times that’s so good   got egg in there as well I just remembered  buried underneath I can’t pick that up try

That that is so good seriously like one of my  favorite meals I love it it’s so delicious so   good I’m so happy that we’ve tried it here so I  think we’ll finish these now let’s just try that  

Kimchi oh I’ve just got to also say the lady’s  really kind and they really hospitable and nice   she just brought us over a little Pepsi and said  um service for free that’s nice let’s just try the  

Kimchi quickly this is with no um none of the what  do you call it chili paste just get a bit of that   come on I like the leafy a bit me and leesh both  like the leafy bit more than the white crunchy

Bit go oh that’s fantastic that’s really  good it’s a little bit sour is delicious   good a it this stuff does not disappoint  we’re going to top off Bowl up a little   bit with some of this like slush broth it’s like  ice slush broth just a little bit let see how we

Go this dish is fantastic honestly go straight  to top as one of my favorites like most unique   dishes of eaten there we go turn it from the  most beautiful dish ever into one of the ugliest   messiest dishes ever but doesn’t matter what  it looks like does it it’s beautiful on the  

Inside look at this leesh the bloody messy  bugger it’s got that bloody red sauce all   over top I have a feeling it’s not going to  come out if you know something funny we were   halfway eating she must have clocked leesh  had a bit of a disaster and she ran out with  

Two like black aprons so she gives you an  apron to wear while you if you want which   is funny is it yeah the damage is already  done come in so we’ just finished and that   was honestly phenomenal couldn’t have asked for  better way to start there we’re happy let’s pay

Then so good so delicious it was fantastic okay have a lovely day a day goodbye  she’s absolutely lovely Ray of Sunshine so let’s   slip shoes back on I don’t know we were  just talking some about this eating with  

Shoes off it makes you feel at home I think  that’s why it’s so good especially when it’s   like cold outside makes you feel like you’re  eating at home so they were 9,000 each £5.50  

And I’ve got to say it was fantastic really one  one of the best meals I’ve eaten in a very long   time so there we go check it out cool little  spot so we’ll have another walk through the village who the bloody hell is this we  found a little cat what’s on your neck  

Oh you just oh vicious cat oh that was scratch got rabies I want to stroke it nicely calm down  it’s not going to be stroking nicely what   have you got on your neck who’s put  that on you mate who’s oh you bloody  

Oh you little prick say hello to camera  say hello tell everyone tell the world some see you later vicious cats of Abai Village  who is that it’s quite cute it got you didn’t   it oh look what they’re selling here penis wines I  don’t know what this is some sort of strength wine  

Wonder what’s in it ginseng some other bits this  lady’s got a poodle on the table look at this oh   and say we’ve just eaten we are full I’m sorry we  are full beautiful but your dog is very beautiful  

And as all he’s friendly I love you hello how  do you do it how do you the korea love heart this Chanel Chanel Chanel it’s very beautiful this cute is it what’s going on here  okay goodbye so there’s Loads of places to eat  

Literally everything on the street is either  a restaurant or like a snack shop and I bet   they’re all pretty good you can’t go wrong with  any of them oh they also sell a traditional type   of fermented corn drink which you can see here  so they sell Makgeolli and then they sell this  

I don’t know what the name of this is but they  sell they sell all kinds of those different like   um milky fermented drinks you know what I mean  all right we’re at the end now let’s check out   the view it’s really surprising because from  where we’re staying you look over here it looks  

Like there’s nothing here I know but it’s quite  big isn’t it when you get here you can see it’s   really cool though I’m just got to show you the  entrance like it’s really cool it’s proper old  

School just like a Time Warp here in Sokcho City  look the old and then the big skyscrapers behind   it but look at this View and hold on to my bloody  hat cuz it’s windy so from here you can see a half  

Decent City View we’ll go down there bloody Hell  bloody Heck I doubt you can hear me it so windy   look at the state of this but I’m just going to  try and show you the view under this bridge it’s  

Well nice Seoraksan National Park is behind the  city there but yeah it’s a rough day for fishing going to blow off all right there  you go maybe we’ll have a look at the beach all right let’s check out the beach behind  the Abai Village to pop our shoes off there we go  

Let’s let have a look let’s see what the Sea’s  like dip our toes in the water so the sand is a   bit sharp it’s not like super smooth but it’s  not pebbly either like a bit of a sand beach  

I’ll just throw my shoes over there to leesh we’ll  check the water out water actually looks so nice   I would definitely go for a swim here just like  swimming in um the UK winter I guess it’s bloody  

Crystal Clear look at that it’s like a nice um  Sandy slope but I’ve got to say the water is very   cold very cold that’s still lovely I’d love to get  in I have to come back sunrise tomorrow go for a  

Sunrise swim look at this it’s beautiful here see  the port over there we got some big boats this is   so nice oh that’ be so nice to get in you know  right there we go everyone there’s your Beach

Tour sokcho Beach destination get yourself in a  lovely place when the sun’s out I look we’ve got   a beautiful day today you can head to Village  have some delicious food come and chill on the  

Beach for a few hours I bet in summer it’s booming  here I bet it’s well busy I’m rightly so is really   nice like these type of cities are the best these  type of town cities where you’ve got the ocean on  

One side and then on the other side you’ve got  the mountains cuz we got the huge National Park   you can see both at the same time what more  do you want nice is it Leesh it’s lovely so  

Peaceful nice it’s just nice in it the village is  there just a little village little sea little old me what a little place then the Abai Village  really cool history so if I didn’t explain   properly the Korean War a lot of the North  Korean people obviously fled so they fled down  

Here to this part of Korea and then obviously  when they drew and partitioned North and South   Korea they were stuck south of that line so  they couldn’t go back I think eventually a   few of them wanted to did go back but most  of them ended up staying here and then this  

Was the village what a place so we’re going to  head back over the big bridge to sokcho City the   proper City side and we’ll see what we’re going  to get up to we’re passing under that bridge on  

Our way back and you can see all the fishermen  here you can see we got fishing boats few old   chaps just chilling out fishing it’s a proper  cool place look we’ got a bit of a dock area

Here in the distance you can actually see the  boat you can get from that side to this side   if you don’t want to walk over the bridge here  that we walked over it’s like a pulley boat youve  

Got to like pull it yourself with a rope you see  all the tourists on it I think it only cost like   500 korean won but just walk over you get a nice  view from this bridge just a bit loud with all the traffic here we go we’re going to try  

Some of sokcho’s famous Squid  soondae and do you have uh oo Sundae can you cook like oh okay um all may just  one one yeah we sure just one 10,000 okay okay   please can we have one one yeah yeah we just get  one oh what’s the difference is this one chili

There hot that’s good spicy spicy please yes  yeah yeah yeah I think she’s got a spicy one   and a non-spicy one so we’ll get the spicy one you  go oh okay this one hot okay that’s perfect yeah  

We got the spicy one now this place looks really  good we actually spoke to some the other day she   said here everything is homemade the squid Sundae  is homemade because in the market a lot of them  

Are apparently made in a factory which is no good  is it so they make them here themselves these are   fresh it’s fresh as to get so you can see on the  picture this is like squid that’s cut up and then  

Stuff with all kinds of different ingredients  can you see on the picture there so we’re going   to see how she cooks this squid sundae so she’s  thrown them all into this egg mixture give them  

A bit of a mix about Coats them and then they’re  going to go on here with a bit of oil on the hot   top and just kind of fry them so there they go you  can see straight away they’re like sizzling this  

Looks well good this is such a unique s we’ve  never had anything like this before and this   is the most delicious number one number one they  look so good so she’s flipping them all now and  

You can see the egg is like cooked on one side  and almost like a little omelette that’s formed   around them these are going to be well good they  smell good there a proper squid smell in the air  

You know what I mean a little bit more oil goes  on the top look at that so they’re all finished   up now going on the plate ready to eat look at  them they look fantastic oh so we’ll sit down

Oh these look fantastic so here we go we’ve  got our Sokcho squid sundae what a little   plate of food oh perfect need that’s perfect  for this hot day but that’s perfect for this  

Cold day the hot drink what am I on about right  here we go let’s try these oh which piece do we   get this big one here look at that oh wow it  feels super soft it looks well nice as well  

Doesn’t it cheers leesh so we got this little  sauce as well which has got a bit of um Sesame   in and um it’s like a chili sauce cheers again  let’s go for it I’m going to try mine plaain oh

Mmmm oh that’s really good that’s fantastic  it tastes Super Fresh it’s a slight squiddy   taste it’s not like super stinky and fishy  it’s fresh tastes fresh a little bit spicy   even without the little side sauce that’s  delicious I thought it’s going to be chewy  

To be honest like rubbery but it’s not it’s  like soft it’s really good let’s get another   bite and dip it straight into the sauce  leesh is going for the head part look   at that there we go let’s give this a big  swilling in here oh look at that that looks

Fantastic wow so good I can’t tell you  everything that’s in it but all you need to   know is it’s delicious and it looks delicious  Granny’s lovely nice place to sit out on the   street right by the market come here for you  squid Sundae don’t go into the market come to  

This lady cuz she’s lovely and it’s so good a so  good so delicious oh okay that’s something need   that I wish we could eat it every day very good  super what she showing us here what’s this e oh drink oh it’s a gift what  is it she’s made it herself

Oh she showing us yeah oh I think it’s the rice  drink sikhye oh okay oh it’s made with this it’s   like pumpkin and fermented rice thank you so  much that’s so kind thank you thank you byebye   byebye have an amazing day that’s absolutely  lovely she’s giving us that wow she made it  

That’s what she’s making with all those pumpkin  oh wow so we’ll try this yeah it’s Frozen right   now to she’s so lovely this is where you want  to come if you’re in sokcho cuz that was look  

Been fantastic so fresh the egg white around it  the egg yolk so delicious okay so we’re going to   try that sweet pumpkin rice beverage for that  lovely lady gave us at the squid Sundae spot   it’s finally defrosted so this looks really good  we’ll pop the lid off forgot which way we were  

Going then and then we’ll try it smells very  interesting and this is so cool she was making   this fresh wasnt she she had pumpkins absolutely  everywhere and how nice to give us a little one   what a good um present for our last day here  in Korea perfect send off that’s really good  

It’s really sweet sweet like a little bit of a  pumpkin taste but it’s sweet and you can taste   it like rice is it good it’s really good it’s  more sweet doesn’t taste like very sour you can   see all the rice floating around in the bottom  can you see underneath that’s that’s like the  

The perfect Autumn drink mmm that’s well good you  want to drink that so fast look at the rice there   shows the bottom Leesh should have a swig can you  see there we go what is it pumpkin sikhye whatever   the name is it’s good how kind absolutely  lovely keep telling you Korean people are

Lovely all right so we come down to sokcho Central  Market we’re going to head in try and grab a few   bites of food just have a walk through cuz we’re  pretty hungry again and it’s just good to show  

You the vibe around here show you what’s going  on cuz it is quite cool the markets in Korea   are fantastic so we’ll see we’re trying to find  something interesting actually this right now   is actually the um sweet and sour chicken the  what is it I don’t know how you say it but the  

The chicken that’s famous here And there’s loads  of that being sold as you can see here and I say   oh is this chicken or shrimp chicken oh do you  know where we can try shrimp shrimp shrimp just  

Right in front of okay okay thank you okay guys  need okay right so we’ve had the the chicken so   we want to maybe try and find some of the shrimp  in that sauce and see if we can find that I don’t  

Even know if they sell it but he said they  do didn’t they so we’ll have a look this is   my favorite thing about Korea yeah look at this  granny with a dog oh I’m in the way of everyone  

Look at that I had to stop in the market to show  you that though because um legendary is it so this   I believe is the famous chicken shop and you can  see it’s like a proper establishment look they  

Got lab suits on in there this is the really busy  one I think everyone probably just buys it because   it’s got a nice box but we went to Granny in  the other video so check that video out cuz we  

Got a really good one and she was really cute  oh we’ve got another Princess coming down look   at this guy’s dog it’s beautiful look at that  the hell you’ve never seen people as proud of   the dog have you look there’s the nice box she’s  carrying one right what should we get so there  

Was loads of food back there now we’re in bloody  dried fish fillet section super busy in here as well while we’re walking around looking for  what we’re going to eat we’re just going to   grab a quick hot because why not but I will say  these things have actually already been fried  

It looks like and then put on the side and then  they go back on which isn’t the greatest ever but   they might have been fried recently so we’ll  give them the benefit of the doubt and it’s   just a quick snack already have some amazing  hotteok here in Korea so Leesh loves hotteok

One yeah just one just one 1,500 okay okay just one we  just got 1,500 in cash you see oh okay put it in here okay there you go  okay perfect to be fair it’s still warm it’s  

Just not red Hot to be fair it doesn’t feel  it’s not like stone cold it is quite fresh I   imagine that many people buy them that  you’re never going to get them crap go

You might have to get the filling in the middle so  I’m going to get the good bit you get the end bit way oh it’s hot it’s still like lava inside  so we’ll try that middle bit smells like cinnamon everyone’s different that’s why it’s

Interesting really oily than the other ones have  cooked in oil obviously genius the fillings quite   good it’s like um caramel not as cinnamon as  other it’s all right it’s a quick snack oh yeah   that’s all right is it more like sugar not the  best but it’s all right so we’re going to head  

In and get some delicious food so actually  it wasn’t very good that hotteok I’m going   to say it I got to tell you the truth wasn’t  that good but it’s okay we soldier on we put   that behind us let’s get something new oh look  here they’ve got the icecream it’s shut today  

But they’ve got the um ice cream with a blow  torch marshmallow which I think it’s a lot of   crap a blow torch marshmallow get that in bin  oh look here She is again princess princess in   her arms so this is a common thing you’ll see  here in Korea especially in the market it’s  

Huge queue’s for stalls everyone’s queuing up  for this Makgeolli bread right you can see it   in there it’s a giant slice to be fair but you  know we don’t queue of things I believe everyone  

Is just as good pretty much so we’re going to go  next door to this man who sells three pieces of   the makgeolli bread for 5,000 and they’re like  smaller and rounder and they’re fresh freshly  

Steamed look at that and that’s so we get three of  these yeah so this is makgeolli bread is makgeolli   can we get three please we’ll get three of these  something there okay perfect so it’s 5,000 for 3  

And look you get them fresh out of there what  more can you ask for and it smells good just   smell good I have no idea what this is going  to taste like is it just going to taste like  

Bread or is it going to have like a bit of a  sweet makgeolli flavor I don’t know there we   go oh that’s something there thank you so much  oh it’s heavy that way I think we should try it  

Yeah go try it while it’s fresh and hot heavy  that oh that is heavy and it’s super hot oh [Music] wow it looks beautiful doesn’t it what’s  these on top I don’t even know what they are is it  

Some type of bean I don’t know some more there we  go look at that it’s like a it’s weird yeah like a   sponge let’s try it smells quite good it smells  like Makgeolli it’s got a bit of a fermented

Smell you know what I wasn’t expecting much but  it’s actually really nice and comforting it’s   like um super soft and like like we said spongy  but a little bit sweet this taste a little bit   little bit sweeted rice a little bit little  bit sour put those little bits on the [Music]

Top that’s well good cuz it’s steamed it’s so soft  look you just literally come off they are super fresh red beans on top I don’t know  what the green one is green beans I   like that that’s surprised me it is it’s  kind of like sweet and a bit salty not  

Too sweet what’s the what’s it like  though it reminds me of some like um   like a cake yeah like a cake that’s it  like a cake like a spongy cake texture it’s really good thank you that was really good  that I can’t fault it delicious hot fresh so yeah  

I’m unsure about this I’m unsure about the  crazy queues I mean I’m no Makgeolli bread   expert but I think everyone is just here to take  a picture of this that’s what I reckon just um   experience in these type of places everyone’s  always the same or like the the ones that no  

One goes to put a lot more like work into the  food cuz they they don’t have to because they   don’t have a reputation to oh I trying to say  I’m trying to say that the random places work   harder care about the quality because they don’t  have a reputation like people aren’t always going  

To go so they have to earn it we come across  another stand this place looks really good   so we’ve got various different pancakes what’s  this like a cabbage pancake this might be kimchi   we’re going to ask I’ve forgotten what this is  but everything’s like being cooked fresh there  

On the flat top so we’re going to check it  out what do you reckon Leesh I think this one   looks really good we’re hoping this is kimchi  pancake arent we I’m tempted to get that one  

As well which is like cabbage I can see you’re  making them there like pancake with a piece of cabbage Kimchi okay what do you Leesh we get  one of these one of these think or   one of them or one of these let’s get  one of these ones yeah which asking  

Which one’s the most delicious it up  cuz they got three different things   here a green yellow and a brown one which  delicious which one which one should we get which one is um most delicious the best

One this one one we get one of these you just  got to ask what’s the most delicious and Trust   the people selling the good aren’t you cuz they’re  the people who know these are 2,000 each is like

£1.30 okay okay right here we go we got our little  snacks what we got here I forgot what this is I   actually um read about this and I forgot but we’re  going to try it anyway and then we got the kimchi  

Pancake should try that first yeah oh wow you can  see I can pick one up stuffed with kimchi look at   that look at leesh’s piece can you smell how good  it is that looks fantastic should we go for it

Cheers oh that’s good that’s oh it’s really  good it’s got a kick to it well delicious oh   wow that’s so good sour spicy nice little pancake  oh this is so good got that is fantastic isn’t it   it’s like a classic pancake it’s fair stuffed  as well that’s amazing was so lovely too oh  

The man’s cute is it the man is really proud  of his store the last piece there we go oh   let’s not drop it oh oh so good that’s so good  honestly that’s fantastic that was worth eating   I’ve just asked the lady and found out that  or this snack is a buckwheat pancake filled  

With red beans do we try it it’s oh it’s that’s  going to be too hot though it’s spliting well   hot I’ll get the corner piece you can see  it’s all sticky we go for it cheers sorry in that’s interesting it’s like chewy almost  like sticky rice flower you know what I just  

Remind me when I put it in my mouth something  that I’ve eaten before you know like don’t know   like a potato cake texture I don’t know that’s  really straight it’s really starchy yeah that’s   what it is and the red bean filling I didn’t  get any in that bite so I’ll try another try  

And pick it up it’s flipping hot look at  this let’s try and get that oh good that’s   really good you don’t really have to chew it  it just kind of like Mushes in your mouth yeah   it’s only a little bit sweet it’s really good  though it’s like comforting really you want  

That in Winter on a cold Winter’s morning  that’s good though a little stuff full of   the red bean as well oh that’s good this is  a really good little stuff you it you sure Christmas thank you so much really good  that’s well and like you can see fresh  

That’s what we want fresh oh we’ve come  across a little free sample station well   obviously it’s so you sample it you  taste it and buy it but yeah we got   all kinds of stuff here we got seaweed  it’s all fried everything’s fried is that  

Lotus root this is chili oh oh okay I’ll  try a little bit I think it’s chili look that that’s Chiles my it’s really  good though we’re sucker for free   things aren’t we free Samples this is my  favorite one is delicious it’s so good  

Like really salty I’ve just seen some I have  to try jack fruit got to try a bit of this   havent we we dry jack fruit chips it smells  well what smells like Jack like sweet jack fruit that’s really good I mean it’s it’s  a mild jack fruit flavor obviously but  

It’s like a jack fruit crisp really good a  dehydrated jack fruit that’s well good you   got all kinds of stuff here pumpkin Taro  what’s this some type of radish on red on   what it’s really good it’s so busy in here  though now look we got to like jle our way

Through so we were going to get some of these  shrimp in that sauce that they sell there but   as you can see they’re just sat there in the cup  and you get that one and we don’t fancy that I’d  

Rather have them fresh so we’re just going  to leave it cuz they’ll be not too good they   won’t be hot and they’ll be… you want them  fresh don’t you if you’re buying it you want  

It fresh I I don’t like that so we’ll leave that  and then we’re going to head out the market and   get a little quick snack end the video and call it  a do those are colorful drinks here I don’t know  

What they are but they look nice great can’t  keep me just looking all over show this some   ginseng wine tried that in Seoul was interesting  let’s go and get a snack leesh knows a place I of  

Place yeah so let’s go eat so you can tell that  is a very tourist orientated market around the   area we were just in and obviously Sokcho City  very popular place for Korean people especially   at the the weekend especially in Autumn so yeah  there are also hidden gems though in there like  

Obviously there’s the famous spots but there are  Little Gems knocking about like the chicken place   went to the day you know the quieter places the  places that probably the people who live here know   so yeah it’s still all right though it’s pretty  cool Market they look super cool every time you  

Walk through you always have a good time and we  got some makgeolli bread bloody bread made with   the traditional fermented rice beverage which is  fantastic was worth going in for that really good   look what we’ve got here the bull here in sokcho  City Center that everybody takes a picture with  

And apparently everybody rubs its horns look you  can see where the outer is rubbed off let’s see   if anyone’s rubbed his balls cuz I heard if  you rub his balls you get some strength there   we go rubbing the balls balls wonder if anyone’s  ever done that before maybe I’ve started a trend  

Everyone who comes here now please rub its  balls makes you stronger that’s what I heard anyway here we go this is the spot I don’t know  what this is I don’t know if it’s a chain place  

Or an independent place or what I have no idea  but they sell gimbab so we’re going to get some f   here check this out we got an absolute Feast going  on here so we’ve got a fresh fried shrimp gimbap  

Like breaded shrimp and I’m telling you what the  fried fresh we all come out they look fantastic so   they’re all wrapped up in there look at that that  looks so good and Leesh got like a soft tofu stew  

That when this came out was bubbling so it’s like  uncurled tofu it’s like egg at that it’s so good   and then we got the banchan we got like some  sort of Salty Fish mixture we got the pickle  

Radish we got the kimchi the absolute classic and  it looks fantastic that I’m going to try that for   you it’s good can’t go wrong with that then we  got some bean sprouts with a little bit of like  

Chili underneath and a soup there we go I’m just  going to try this beer looks so good fresh breaded shrimp mhm very good yeah it’s fantastic  as I expected really nice breaded   shrimp crispy fresh hot I don’t know what  more you can want how’s the bloody tofu  

So good really comforting and like  a little bit spicy the tofu is so creamy look at that in there give show us a  bit of a stir on that look at that is that  

Exactly what you want on a like a bit of a chili  evening proper there we go we’ll finish this up   head off and the video we’re on our way back  home now so I’ll wrap up this video we’ve had  

A prop a nice little day today aren’t we  here on Korea’s East Coast here in sokcho   been really good Korea definitely a country  we’ll be coming back to so many places we’d   like to go really impressed it’s a massive  country food’s incredible people are lovely

We’ve got ourselves out of megacity Seoul and today we’re in Sokcho on South Korea’s Northeast coast.

We spent the morning in the abai village which was a north Korean refugee village back in the day, here we had some heavenly naengmyeon cold noodles with dried raw gochujang pollock.

Then we checked out the beautiful beach here in the city which was actually really nice before going to eat the famous Sokcho squid soondae. We went to a little place outside the market that makes everything fresh and she even gave us a pumpkin sikhye as a gift.

The rest of the day was spent eating more delicious Korean street food in Sokcho market before heading to another little food spot for some freshly fried shrimp gimbap and some tofu stew! Yeah we flipping love Korean food.

Sokcho is a beautiful little city you’ve got mountains, coast, good food and people what’s not to love 🇰🇷

    Sadly this was our last day in the country! It's only been a short trip but we'll definitely come back, our time in Korea has been flipping quality!

  9. It is one of my favorite dishes in the world not just among the Korean ones. Make sure you try the original North Korean Nangmyen with raw fish!!

  11. Naengmyeon is such a uniquely Korean dish. It's often served with Korean bbq. I love eating it in summertime, but I could eat it anytime. The broth is so refreshing and yummy.

  12. The most common version of hotteok is made with brown sugar, but personally I prefer the one with red bean (which my Mom made for me growing up). It is so endearing how you two describe food as "comforting". This makes me realize how different expressions (not just the accent) in Northern England are from say London area. I love how you two seek places off the beaten path and don't follow the crowds.

  13. I am South korean. Sokcho is close to North Korea. And there are cruises to Vladivostok in Russia even though there is war.

    If North Korea's roads were opened. You can drive to London by car, but because there is a ceasefire, the roads are blocked by enemies.

    It is currently an actual island, but once the blocked road is opened, it will become a true Korean Peninsula.
